Chart of Rik Mayall

At the age of 56 years the man who made me laugh so often, Rik Mayall, suddenly died on June 9, 2014. It is still unclear what was the cause of death.

Rik Mayall was born on March 7, 1958 in Harlow (UK) at 3.30 a.m. (says Astrodatabank). That gives him a chart with a clear pattern of artistic talent*). Look at the charts below and what you see is:

- Venus trine the elevated Moon in Libra and
- Venus square Neptune
- Venus square Midheaven
- Neptune on Midheaven

This  in combination with the Pisces Sun in the second house of public performance. Also watch the creative (bi)quintiles of Sun and controversial Uranus with Ascendant..joined by Jupiter and Neptune for the fans.

Rik Mayall worked hard to gain his status. Saturn is 'calling' (no major aspects in sign or orb 5 degrees) and highlighted (square Sun/Moon midpoint) as an indication of ambition, all that is 'official' and serious, and of the importance of parents (and parenthood), business, management and duty. His parents taught drama and he studied drama at the University of Manchester.  Saturn is for classics...

It's rarely enough to have talent and ambition. Rik Mayall had Sun sesquisquare Jupiter and quatronovile Pluto (a combination for self confidence and success). The Venus-Jupiter-Neptune aspect combination is a key to popularity.

TRANSITS AND PROGRESSIONS 1998 and 2014
Click for larger picture

The transits and progressions at the time of the serious quad bike accident of 1998 were rather clear about injuries. See transit Saturn square Mars (dead end) and transit Chiron inconjunct P IC on that day. Transit Mars (not visible in the picture) was conjunct Progressed Sun.
Click for larger picture

There are only a few transits and progressions on the day of his death
1. Transit Saturn semi square Ascendant for a frustrating delay or end.
2. Transit Mars inconjunct progressed Sun (Mars was in the 12d of Libra that day) for an attack with a loss or imbalance involved.
3. Transit Uranus semi sextile natal Sun (a shock or surprise)
That is a trio for an unexpected dead end (but not always!).

(The progressed Sun had already been perfecting a sesquisquare with Saturn 4 months earlier).

Just like on the day of the accident there was a transit of Mars with Progressed Sun. In 1998 - accident - it was a conjunction. In 2014 - when he died - it was an inconjunction.

*)
The pattern consists of aspects between Moon, Venus, Neptune and Midheaven, often related to the signs Taurus, Cancer, Libra and Pisces, More examples of artistic talent on Art&Astrology.

The bright sides of transits/progressions: Sun-Pluto

You know the song ‘Bright side of life’? If you don’t, here is the song and text (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2UP86bciVA ). Sing along while reading this post! It is summer time (well, almost!).  The picture above is 'Fallen star' by

This post is one of a series of posts, and the subject is: the bright sides of nasty aspects (but only when you look at it like if you were the devil's advocate). Of course, I don’t want to laugh at heavy transits. I wouldn’t dare! Too many of them have passed in my life and most of them were rather unpleasant! It is no wonder that many of us fear the transits  and progressions of Mars, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. It is, because they  use to mirror periods of set backs, shocks, confusion and stress. But there ARE always bright sides, tiny little insignificant sparks of light, fallen stars that may hit you when you are down. I always use music in such periods. So I included a suggested YouTube video, in every post.

Use it for transits and progressions, just to consider the bright sides. What have you learned, gained or experienced in those nasty periods?

The label  for the list is ‘Bright sides’. You find that label on the (b)right side of Astropost.

Sun-Pluto
You live life to the max because you value life so much. You show courage en strength. Have you ever seen so much in such a short time? Stress hormones help you see how valuable life is. Maybe you never payed attention to bees, bugs, birds and beetles, but NOW you see them. You’d not have seen all this if you didn’t have this transit or progression!  Now that your vitality, life style or life is in danger, you start to appreciate it like you never did before. Enjoy those special moments, before you forget about it and rush back into life. You may need all your strength, courage and will in this period, so try this song to encourage you:

There is a lot on Sun-Pluto on my sites. Here is the article on Astromarkt:

Bright sides of bad transits/progressions: Sun-Neptune

You know the song ‘Bright side of life’? If you don’t, here is the song and text (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2UP86bciVA ). Sing along while reading this post! It is summer time (well, almost!).  The picture above is 'Fallen star' by

Sun-Neptune
At least your closet is open now and all nightmares came out while you were on the run like in some kind of a B-movie, looking over your shoulder and wondering where to go, ending up in the witches’ house. With Sun – Neptune your dreams AND nightmares may come true, so be prepared for miracles, ghosts, fake persons and (this is for the VIPs among us) the media on the look out for a gossip story. It is a wonderful world, with Sun-Neptune! A world of visions, secrets to conceal, paranormal experiences and media attention (or just everybody talking about you).

Who had such an experience and what happened? Bernard Frank had progressed Sun square Neptune when Mark Gould pretended to be a Nazi and thus got all kind of information that exposed Frank (see: http://astropost.blogspot.nl/2011/02/sun-neptune-bernhard-frank-and-mark.html )

You will probably like this song now. It’s a wonderful world…

Gemini Astrologer Jan Gieles (the -1 system man)

Dutch astrologer Jan Gieles was an autodidact who invented his own system for the progressed chart. Instead of adding the number of years, he added the number of years minus 1. (So your 20th progressed year will be your 19th then*). He said (and his followers still say so) that he had good results with that system. He explained that in the year before birth we are prepared for our existence on earth and that he felt that this was significant for the progressions. In the 70-80's astrologers used to focus on the psychological side of the chart and 'predictions' weren't appreciated much. He, however, said things like ' When the Moon is in Scorpio conjunct Pluto, this is very dangerous for the Middle East'. That, his special system and the fact that he wasn't a 'news paper sun sign astrologer' or busy on the internet is perhaps the reason why you haven't heard of him.

Gieles had his own magazine 'Sagittarius' , named after his Ascendant sign. I still have number 13:). I visited his class a couple of times, too, somewhere in the 80s. Subjects in my number 13 were chart analysis of the Queen and politicians, predictions, numerology, Sun signs explained, basics of astrology, homeopathy - astrology, the mythology of Saturn/Kronos and the 'nonexistence' of the Age of Aquarius (as there are no borders). He died in September 2007.

The astrological pattern of Jan Gieles' interest in astrology is in line with the pattern in the charts of other astrologers. His Jupiter/MC midpoint is opposite Uranus and his Jupiter is in minor aspect (112.5 degrees) with Uranus. Other interesting things in his chart:

  • Neptune is calling for visions at any possible level (he says that the idea of the -1 system began in his dreams; he also had Moon in Pisces)
  • Neptune and Pluto square and trine Midheaven (Neptune-Pluto-MC is the symbol of a 'paranormal' or mysterious position in society); together with Jupiter you see the fans and followers (Jupiter/Neptune) and success (Jupiter/Pluto) in his field
  • Tightest aspect is Moon square Jupiter (he was popular and had a class full of students)
  • Mercury is the final dispositor of Midheaven, for the magazine and the classes:)

His sign Gemini shows in the way that he instructed and in the fact that he didn't write a book, but published in a magazine.

*) It is rather difficult to use transits and progressions using Astro.com that way. You need to take the progressed chart of one year before with the present transits.

Also visit: Astromarkt.net perhaps to see the chart of Gieles and read the analysis in Dutch:): http://www.astromarkt.net/horoscoop-jan-gieles.html

PS An assistent of Jan Gieles works with the -1 system. Site http://home.knp.nl/jligteneigen/ and made a calculation program names Newcombe

Bright sides of bad transits/progressions: Sun-Uranus

Sun-Uranus
At least, you had some excitement, hadn’t you?
With Sun-Uranus you are woken up by alarming situations. If you are a VIP you are probably mentioned in the newspapers now and there is no such thing as a moment to be news for a VIP. You could consider this moment to break free from old routine and (for example) try to dance like Mick Jagger in ‘I am free’ (knowing that you are NOT, of course): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWFk9Dj3LsE

Some of you Sun-Uranus-period persons shock the world by sudden death. That is not my advice! Take a look at the examples and pick your way to ‘do’ Sun-Uranus. It will be hectic, like a roller coaster! When the first accelerated period of shock is over, your life has changed and you will get used to it, somehow and enjoy the free moments.

Some examples of transits and progressions Sun-Uranus:

1. My own tweet
This Uranus-Sun transit changed my life style, up to now, due to an accident that my mother had.
2. Transit Uranus opposition my husband’s Sun (an accident)

I suddenly see that in both cases we had to return home (we were in a place by the sea) and break off our holidays.

3. The article on Sun-Uranus on my site Astromarkt gives more examples:
