This is a happy day for me, as transit Jupiter is trine my Midheaven. Tomorrow, Jupiter will be trine my Sun. This is the week of my puppy. Her Venus is trine my Venus. That is a good sign! Meryl Streep married her Don in 1978. Her Venus is trine his.
On the way to see her, yesterday, I thought of some names and found at least 1 for the complete alphabet. I like 'Easy', for some reason. I was introduced to Izzy. She already had a name, because the person who first selected her, later switched to a male dog. Last week I accidentally named the picture of Iggy (the woman dissed by Snoop Dogg): Izzy. I had never heard of Izzy before (it is short for Isabel).
Next weekend I will be very busy with the little one. She is cheerful (Moon Sagittarius; Venus and Jupiter rising before the Sun) and has a strong will (Sun trine Pluto, like I have:). She is also a Virgo (and perhaps that will make her fastidious). We'll see.
Venus-Venus synastry almost always shows mutual sympathy, even if there are different wishes and tastes. I am sure that my taste won't match Izzy's!:)
The trines of Jupiter are welcome as I am in the middle of an 8th house transit Saturn square progressed MC and square progressed Sun. I am planning to enjoy it!

Sirius, election day and Obama's progressed chart
![]() |
| BO and B.Obama running |
Sirius, if culminating, means 'high office'*) and being the President of the USA is perhaps the highest office in the world. Sirius is opposition MC, and that is the opposite of culminating. Barack Obama IS the President. Perhaps it is enough to hit the meridian...
ELECTIONS AND SIRIUS
Here is the progressed chart of November 6, 2012 when transit Sun is trine Sirius, a perfect day to see who will be the next one in 'high office'. In fact, transit Sun was trine Sirius every Presidential election day of the past century and trine everybody's Sirius. Barack Obama's progressed Midheaven also 'hits' that trine.
Sirius is the 'dog star' (think of Sirius Black in Harry Potter: he sometimes appeared as a dog). When Barack Obama entered the White House, he was given ... a dog (called Bo, B-arack O-bama). Time will tell if transits and progressions go bye. It will be November 6 soon.
HISTORY AND SOLAR RETURN
Here is the natal, progressed and transits of November 6, 2008, when transit Jupiter was square the progressed Ascendant. (Jupiter is quindecile natal Midheaven in 2012 and transit Pluto opposition natal Sun/Moon. In the solar return chart for birthday in Washington DC, Jupiter is on top)

3. *) Constellation of Stars tells you more about the meaning and positions of fixed stars. Here is something about Sirius, citing Robson who told us that if Sirius is culminating you may expect a high position in the government! (It takes more than a fixed star to become a President, of course!:)

4. President Obama's progressed chart says more about his career than the natal chart does. The elevated Saturn in Capricorn with Pluto rising before the Sun are telling us about the importance of strategy (politics) and status (managing). He sort of grew into this position, as I explained in an earlier post. And now he will always be one of the Presidents...

Ferry tales
Back from a Mediterranean Sea voyage I have some 'ferry' tales related to astrology. More specific, about Jupiter and Saturn. But first I want to show you something.
ONE DAY FOR A YEAR
In Venice, at San Marco Place, I noticed this clock. Watch the zodiac signs and the 24 hours united... It reminded me of ' one day for a year'. That is term used in progressive astrology where we use a day after birth as an equivalent for a year after birth. Wiki explains it well...This picture shows it.
BTW It wasn't easy to get there, in Venice. It went the Italian way...My husband and I planned to go from our ship to San Marco Place by ferry. So we bought tickets and joined a patiently waiting man in suite and tie, (yes, of course he was an Englishman, and a very nice one:). Meanwhile, the ticket office closed, so that we couldn't ask why there was no ferry at all in 30 minutes. The Englishman said that they were supposed to arrive every 10 minutes, but as there was no schedule around, we couldn't verify this. Finally, a boat showed up. Two busy young Italians on the phone and talking with wild gestures told us that their ferry was not THE ferry (no no no, they absolutely didn't go to San Marco, they went to the airport). So again we waited in the sunshine, wondering if we should simply start walking, until, on the horizon, another boat turned up. After a total of 45 minutes waiting this ferry brought us to San Marco Place. Can you imagine what fun it was when we saw the busy young lads there, on the shore, hanging around a bit?
I was told when I got back, last night. Progressed Moon inconjunct Saturn and transit Saturn trine progressed Ascendant say that it was a moment for an 'ending' and a moment of goodbye with a loss involved (inconjunct). Perhaps it is also time to face real life again, after these 13 days of taking it easy. Life is not just about having a good time, seeing highlights and remarkable buildings. In fact, it would be boring if it was, they say. I am not convinced, yet. I have to do the laundry...

JUPITER
The trip started with transit Jupiter exactly square my Progressed Sun. Jupiter happens to be the international of the planets. This journey brought me in 5 different countries (Italy, Greece, Turkey, France and Spain) and I met people from Venezuela, England, USA, Philippines, Japan and even more nations. Very Jupiter! Jupiter is also the symbol of optimism. Maybe that is why I dared to sail away during Varuna square Eris (with Varuna inconjunct my Sun).
SATURN
In Izmir (Turkey) I saw this man (picture above) carrying a heavy load down hill and I immediately thought of Saturn. Saturn hit my chart, too. While I was traveling from Venice to Athens via Istanbul to Rome and Barcelona, our family dog died. You know that the natal positions of dog respond to transits and progressions as much as the charts of humans do? She was ill since a few months (see the doggy story: http://astropost.blogspot.com/2011/12/doggy-story.html ). She died with transit Saturn again (!) hitting her natal Sun, transit Neptune trine Mars and transit Uranus inconjunct Mars.
I was told when I got back, last night. Progressed Moon inconjunct Saturn and transit Saturn trine progressed Ascendant say that it was a moment for an 'ending' and a moment of goodbye with a loss involved (inconjunct). A doggy story
The natal
positions, transits and progressions of dogs are just as much in line with
‘what happens’ as those of human beings. Today our ‘family dog’ underwent
surgery, a spleenectomy. She is the oldest living dog of her race in the
country and that is why it was difficult to decide what to do. But it was her
lucky day (transit Sun trine her Jupiter; she will have a new basket soon as
she gets home), the tumors have been removed (transit Pluto - sic- trine Progressed
Sun) and now she may recover. However (see the chart) there is an awful lot of
Saturn to remind her of her age.
First she had
Progressed Sun conjunct Saturn and Mars on her Sun during an infection. She had
transit Saturn opposition natal Sun and conjunct natal Pholus. That doesn’t
‘sound’ like an easy period in life. Still she manages to be cheerful. At the
moment she is still asleep…

Dog days and Sirius
![]() |
| Don Leicht created this. |
The Dog Days are here again. The Dog Days originally were the days when Sirius (the brightest star of Canis Major - that means Large Dog-) rose just before or at the same time as sunrise (heliacal rising), which is no longer true, owing to precession of the equinoxes.
But we still call the weeks from almost end of July till almost end of August the Dog Days. In Harry Potter, Sirius Black is the wizzard who is able to transform into a massive black dog.
Time to have a look at Sirius position in astrology.
One of the sites that I recommend is Constellations of Words. Sirius is mentioned on that site and we see that this star is now in the 15th degree of Cancer. (see http://constellationsofwords.com/stars/Sirius.html)
I quote: With Sun:....' If rising or culminating, kingly preferment. [Robson*, p.209.]"
I'd like to see some examples of this (any 15th degree Cancer Ascendant conjunct Sun in the house?:) But this degree of Sirius seems to give honor in general (see: http://www.constellationsofwords.com/categories/REPUTATION.html) So I checked July's 5 and July's 6, but every date has a number of celebrities...Perhaps Sirius is more important when Sirius is in line (parallel) with the Sun or Ascendant? Anyway...
The Dog Days are the hottest days (not in the southern hemisphere, I am afraid) and after all the rain and chilly days of June and July I really long for something of the past:)...

Chart of the death of Knut, a polar bear
Even a polar bear has astrological positions and even a polar bear's transits and progressions are mirroring his situation. Knut, the popular icebear of the Berlin Zoo, died yesterday. He jumped into the water with what appeared to be spasm and died suddenly. It was a heart attack, they think.
People loved him, but ice bears did not, not even his own mother. That is why he was raised by humans. He was born with Sun square Uranus and Jupiter was rising before the Sun. Sun square Uranus is for enstrangement (being different or independent, sometimes you are 'not part of it' with this aspect). Jupiter orientational is for the international:). Not many bears are famous all over the world...Knut was. His Sun was not only conjunct the midpoint Jupiter/Pluto, but also on the midpoint Venus/Jupiter! That is an astrological statement for lots of love and sympathy and that is what he got. From people....There is no hour of birth, so this is a limited overview of his transits and progressions.
- progressed Sun is sextile natal Neptune
- transit Jupiter opposition the midpoint Mars/Saturn (a nice way to die)
- transit Pholus is conjunct progressed Sun for a turning point in life or lifestyle

Maradonna's dog bite

I don’t want to ' blame' Pholus for everything, now that I recently ‘ discovered’ this object. Fixed star Sirius also was important in the incident with Diego Maradonna's dog. Neptune contributed, too. And there were supporting transits avoiding worse than bitten lips. But still, transit Pholus is exactly inconjunct the natal Mars of Maradonna, now that he has been bitten by one of his own dogs. I think that bite might change the way that he plays (or fights) with his dogs form now on..Other indications for getting hurt and animals are transit Neptune almost and transit Chiron exactly square the DD-rated Ascendant given by Astrodatabank.
Lucky besides: progressed Venus is conjunct natal Pholus, maybe that helped and so did transit Jupiter conjunct the Moon in Pisces (and square Mercury). Maradonna had some lucky stars on his side (though it might feel bad:(
With Sun conjunct Neptune there might be a tendency to be too close to animals in general, especially in times when progressed Mars is conjunct Sirius, like here. Sirius is one of the fixed stars related to dog bites (see http://www.constellationsofwords.com/Fixedstars.htm)
For more about the incident, see The Hindu.

An Elephant's Saturn
It is almost Astrological New Year, so time for light stuff: the story of an elephant. Yu Zin is a female elephant born February 19, 1979 in Myanmar. She has to move out of the Zoo in Emmen, because she is a burden. She is bigger than the rest and not very nice, scaring the other elephants. The astrological positions on February 19, 1979 are completely in line with that story.
As you see in the chart, Mars is rising before the Sun and square Uranus. Mars-Uranus is the combination of the short fuse. Mars oriental is frequent in the chart of entrepeneurs, soldiers, activists and (in certain conditions) aggressive people. Let us say that she can suddenly be very assertive...
Her Moon is in Scorpio, afflicted, uhm...Many of the women on top have a Moon in Scorpio, reflecting the need to win or be dominating (the female way). Maybe that is because you have to be brave to be a woman on top.
She is big, Yu Zin, too big. And she has Sun inconjunct Jupiter to reflect that. Sun and Jupiter aren't making major aspects, so they are 'calling' (doing their job at any possible level, anyhow, somehow). The inconjunction symbolizes lack of balance. That must be why she eats it all, including the food of her group members.
The last two to three years there was a period of transformation. Two important females in the group died and that is when Yu Zin started to become a problem. She also wasn't good at educating her difficult son, so it is in the family. They separated her from her son. And now she must go to another zoo, it is the end. And you won't believe it...the symbol of endings (Saturn) is exactly opposition her progressed Sun now.
To end this story in a positive way: she is a lucky elephant. her Sun and Jupiter are prominent, so she draws attention and she might succeed everywhere, if she doesn't grow too much and doesn't become arrogant. Even though she is not the most sympathic and friendly elephant, there is a potential for success. But not right now. Elephants have a strong memory and I wonder how it is for an elephant to be separated from members of their group or family.
PS Happy Astrological New Year! The ingress chart has Moon in aspect with Uranus, so we will remain in the mood for astrology!

Chart of a hippopotamus
Astrology works for animals, too. I started a small blog in Dutch to show the correspondence between the charts and transits with the lives and deaths of animals like cats, dogs, lions and eliphants. The latest post is about Tanja, the hippopotamus born in Artis Amsterdam, who died age 49 on Xmas Day, due to the effect of ailment of the skin. She was born June 2, 1960. On that day Venus was inconjunct Neptune (reflecting the ailment) and Saturn was inconjunct Uranus (reflecting a possible restricted freedom, very appropiate since she was born in captivity and lived a life behind in a limited area in a Zoo). But there was also a Moon trine Jupiter and conjunct Pluto, mirroring her enormous popularity. She even had a Hyves! Here is the chart of the day of birth, with progressions and transits in a triwheel.

Tanja died in a period with transits resembling the composition of planets in the natal chart:
- transit Mars conjunct progressed Uranus (this can reflect an accident or surgery, a sudden pain)
- after Mars conjunct natal Uranus
- after Mars inconjunct natal Saturn (lack of energy, death, hurt)
- on a day with solar transit trine Pluto (easy way for major change)
In the natal chart Mars is square Saturn and trine Uranus, with Saturn inconjunct Uranus. Often, when a certain pattern is being repeated by transit and/or progression, an important event takes place. In this case, for this animal in her circumstances, the mirrored combination accompanied death.

Sun trine Neptune, dogs, rescues and Presley
More than once I have seen Sun trine Neptune in the charts of people who are very close to their dogs. One personal example: my grandfather had Sun trine Neptune. One night he stepped out of bed. When he got back, the dog had taken his place. He didn't mind, he took a chair!
EMPATHY
Neptune is the symbol of empathy. The trine between Sun and Neptune had his effect in the chart of Paul Rusesabagina, born 15th June 1954. As the manager of the hotel Rwanda he saved about 1200 people (Hutu and Tutsi) out of the hands of cruel criminals during the civil war. He has Sun/Jupiter and Sun/Mars on Aries Point (symbolizing success) and Sun trine Neptune is the tightest aspect in his chart (for being idealistic or helpfull). I wrote in the post 'Mars at War':
"It seems Sun trine Neptune (empathy!) was showing the right way...". Heroic actions often are based upon empathy.
SUN TRINE NEPTUNE AND ELVIS PRESLEY
I know of another person with Sun trine Neptune in his chart. He just cannot imagine life without having a dog around. He also says that the dog helps him when he is sad and strongly feels with him.
Maybe you have your own examples of the effect of Sun trine Neptune related to animals. I have one for you: Elvis Presley. This site 'Elvis' Pets' quotes Elvis Presley saying that Dog is God spelled backwards. Isn't that a fabulous way to explain Neptune's effect, as Neptune is related to the love for animals and to religion?
READ ALSO: About the artistic talent in the chart of Elvis Presley (on my site Art&Astrology)
Reading of Elvis Presley's chart on this blog
Neptune's efffect is various. You can read about that in the posts labelled Neptune ...
There is a post about more effects of Sun-Neptune aspects, too.
Just click 'Neptune' in the labels for more information about Neptune's effect.
MORE EXAMPLES
I mention Elvis' ex-wife Priscilla and Alicia Silverstond (a tight Sun sextile Neptune-example):
- Priscilla Presley adopts horses and is mad about dogs (see http://www.buzzfoto.com/2009/01/priscilla-presley/priscillas-mad-about-dogs ).
She also has Sun in a tight trine with Neptune (born 24 May 1945 NY).
- Alicia Silverstone was born 4 October 1976 with a tight Sun sextile Neptune and all of her 5 dogs are rescued dogs. See http://rulingcatsanddogs.com/dogs-famous-dog-owners-celebrities-pets-canines.htm
- Chris Brown has Sun trine Neptune, too (orb about 2,5 degrees). I found out that he has a pitbull called Diamond. Data: 05051989 Tappahannock.

DOG IN HOSPITAL
with transit Mars oppositon Sun

Dogs are like family. When a dog has to go to hospital, the family is worried. Chelsea is my son’s dog, but I consider her my 'grandchild':) She is energetic, all Aries (Sun and probably also her Moon), and looks amazingly young (her Venus in Gemini?). And she loves to travel (Jupiter oriental). Lately, in Switzerland, you could watch her smile. She does not like other dogs, except for male hush puppies with deep dark voices. But she just loves children, as all Dogues de Bordeaux do.
And now she is in hospital. Tuesday, early in the morning, my son noticed that Chelsea was unable to move her legs. She was shaking all over. It seems to be polyartritis. This all happens to her with transit Mars opposition natal Sun, so it seems the doctors in the veterinarian hospital are right and there is some infection. The doctor said that Chelsea is in an amazing condition for her age (9, 5 and the average age of a Dogue de Bordeaux is 8, 5), has a strong heart, a good skeleton and bright eyes. She only has that silly arthritis. A quick glance on the Internet tells me that arthritis is usually linked to Gemini. Hmm...Maybe it is her Ascendant, because she is rather intelligent and communicative. Chelsea can communicate by telephone, knows who she is talking to (really!) and expresses joy, sympathy, or irritation. She uses me as an intermediary when her boss does not want to do as she wishes soon enough. I guess we communicate that well because her Mercury is square my Venus.
Wonder why my son wanted her? Her Venus is trine Neptune and both are related to his (and my:) Moon! Moon, that is were her home is. We hope she will be back soon. In the meantime: read all about the signs and your dog on my site Astromarkt:)

MORE CHARTS OF ANIMALS...

I told you about Koko, the 'talking' gorilla with Mercury-Jupiter-Pluto as an example of how astrology works in the charts of animals, too. But there are more VIP animals..

F.ex. look at the chart of a top horse, Okidoki, born April 16, 1999 in Oudehaske (Netherlands) with an oriental Mars square Jupiter and sesquisquare Pluto (for a lot of energy and succes). He is called 'careful' and look: he has a prominent Saturn! There is a sensible side on the horse, says his rider and we notice Sun square Neptune and the calling Venus!
On the day that there was a special item about the horse on television, he had transit Pluto trine Sun and transit Saturn trine progressed Sun: a statement for deserved respect.

Or what about Bonito, the biting gorilla? He severely hurt an adoring female fan after jumping over the water barrier. I mentioned him on May 18, 2007 like this:
"BOKITO, the gorilla that escaped on May 18th in the Blijdorp Zoo in Rotterdam and bit one of his female admirers over a 100 times, is world news. In his chart you might immediatelly notice the prominent position of Mars, being oriental and conjunct the Sun. Such a position gives enterprise and whit difficult aspects: agression. In his chart Mars is conjunct Saturn, so that the energy and drive is being limited and blocked. That might make angry. Dogs with this aspect sometimes bite out of fear."
Bokito was born March 14, 1996 in Berlin.
Notice the difference between the 3 charts.
Two animals famous for doing the right thing (being great in communications or sports) and one notorious for his attack. The first two have a significant and even prominent planet (Mercury for messages or Mars for competition) and in aspect with Jupiter and Pluto, the combination of succes.
The last one hs a prominent Mars afflicted by Saturn. Astrology works, even with animals.
...It is just that it takes a look at the special marks in the chart (the prominent planets) and the most tight aspects.
BIRTH CHART OF GORILLA KOKO
I have studied the charts of animals before (and published about it on my Dutch blog) and I found it surprising...For example.
What to expect of the chart of a gorilla nicknamed 'the Einstein gorilla', a gorilla that understands 2000 words and uses 1000 signs to communicate? Koko, the gorilla, has an IC between 70 and 95! So I would have expected what I found.
MERCURY-JUPITER-PLUTO: GREAT VERBAL POWER
Mercury on July 4, 1971, birthday of Koko is trine Jupter and sextile Pluto (see chart). Mercury-Jupiter-Pluto is the combination of succesful communications! And Just as tight as these aspects are, are the next: Sun sesquisquare Jupiter and quindecile (75d) Pluto for succes in life (enormous self confidence). It must have been the perfect day for a communicator to be born. But..
MARS
It also was a day with a 'calling' Mars, without Ptolomeic aspects in sign and orb 5degree, to call the sportsmen and enterpreneurs. With Mars biquintile Pluto you might think of a creative way to realiser the drive to win or dominate. So the VIP's of that day are men only:
- born in Sydney: Ned Zelic (football player),
- Andy Creeggan (baseball player in Canada),
- Brendan Donnelly (baseball player in the USA) and
- Andrew Murray, English entrepeneur.
The theme of the calling Mars biquintile Pluto is the creative use and abuse of influence, power, money or force. It did not miss it's effect in the life of Koko.
Koko was involved in sexual harassment lawsuits. Former female employees claimed that they were pressured into showing their breasts to Koko by Dr. Patterson. Koko grabs both male and female nipples without warning or provocation!
