The Taurus astrologer in the chart of John Frawley

The combination of the helicopter view is Jupiter-Uranus. Jupiter-Uranus combinations are frequent in the charts of astronauts, modern popes and …astrologers. The chart of British astrologer John Frawley is such a good example! Here it is:

Jupiter conjunct Uranus,
Sun sextile Uranus,
Jupiter sextile Sun
Also, Jupiter and Uranus are in a wider trine with Midheaven in Scorpio.
Jupiter and Uranus are in hard aspect with Venus, too.

That is a lot of Jupiter/Uranus, and it is all connected to Pallas, the symbol of patterns.
Here is his chart, with transits and progressions, the Porphyry way.
Need one know more? Well, John Frawley is a classical astrologer.

SATURN FOR CLASSICS
He teaches traditional and horary astrology and wrote ‘The Real Astrology’ (a satirical approach of modern astrology).
Saturn doesn’t make major aspects in sign or orb 5 degrees. His Saturn is on Midheaven. That is why Saturn is the most prominent planet in the chart. Saturn is the symbol of ‘classical’… and in this chart Saturn is ‘calling’!

John Frawley is a famous astrologer.

JUPITER PLUTO MC FOR SUCCESS
Jupiter and Pluto are in aspect with the MC, promising public success.

There is also a Jupiter-Neptune aspect, connected with the Sun, that explains the dedicated audience/students and the number of fans that he has.

TAURUS WAY
Now how does the sun sign Taurus mirror his life style? It may be in the price of a consultation  Well, isn't Taurus supposed to like making money?:) But there are more ways to demonstrate that you are a Taurus. Earlier I wrote about the correspondence between Taurus astrologers Deborah Houlding and William Lilly:

Because now I have to find out what William Lilly and Deborah Houlding share. I found this site (http://www.skyscript.co.uk/pdf/CA_preface.pdf ) with Lilly's 'Christian Astrology' retyped and with comments of Deborah Houlding. Perhaps that it is the continuity of working on that basic material that demonstrates the fixed and earth side of Taurus?
Now I can add John Frawley (also recommending Lilly's Christian Astrology): Taurus and continuity of working on basic material.

PS
It is his 60st birthday today and there are a 3 transits of Pluto with his natal and progressed chart.
1. Pluto is conjunct Progressed Midheaven,
2. Pluto is inconjunct natal Mercury and
3. Pluto is conjunct natal Ascendant.
Transits of Pluto might be more disturbing if you are not a traditional astrologer, but what if there are 3 of them? This usually means: challenges and stress.
Perhaps that was (only) because of the failing website? On April 21, 2015 he wrote:'My website's come  back to life'. Interesting that Pluto is the symbol of come backs, crisis and matters of life and death...:)

Aquarius astrologer Carroll Righter

On Astropost you find charts of astrologers for almost every sun sign. They tell us about the indications for interest in astrology (or better: for a helicopter view) and they tell us in what way the sun sign of the astrologer is in line with the way that he or she practiced it. Carroll Righter's sun sign was Aquarius. He was an astrologer in the days that astrology was booming and 'The age of Aquarius' was a hit.

What he did was not new. Astrologers have been advising politicians and kings for ages and in some nations, they still do. It is an enormous responsibility and it requires some notion of politics and strategy. I remember a sad case of some years ago of an astrologer /clairvoyabt whose advices left him so poor that one of his famous clients bought him a carpet because he couldn't afford one. Some astrologers give million dollar advices for 100 box! So,  amazing how wealthy Carroll Righter was! (Maybe his Venus ruler 2 in 12 square Pluto ruler 8 helped him? Or maybe American celebs are more generous:).

THE ASTROLOGER'S PATTERN
Astrologers usually have a Jupiter-Uranus 'connection', consisting of a narrow aspect between Jupiter and Uranus, the Sun or Mercury in aspect with both Jupiter or Uranus. a Jupiter/Uranus midpoint combination with Sun, Mercury or Midheaven and/or an Aquarius Sun in aspect with Jupiter (or a Sagittarius Sun in aspect with Uranus). Mostly they have more of these connections, completed with a prominent Pallas (for patterns) and either Jupiter or Uranus in a prominent position. Let's see if Carroll Righter, who was a famous and successful astrologer, had this, too. Here is the chart:
Click and open in new window for a larger picture
There are 4 Jupiter-Uranus combinations.
1. Jupiter is conjunct Uranus
2. Jupiter and Uranus are sextile Mercury
3. Sun in Aquarius -ruled by Uranus- is sextile Uranus in Sagittarius (ruled by Jupiter) AND
4. Sun in Aquarius is in a 67.5 degree minor aspect*) with the ruler of the 10th house, Jupiter.
That is more that the rule of 3!

Neptune on IC and the 12th house Pisces Moon square Neptune/Pluto for a famous astrologer? Famous astrological advisors work behind the scenes..,So the combination is a perfect symbol for someone who discretely communicates with celebrities in the paranormal field. See how that Moon in Pisces 12 square Neptune/Pluto is reflecting the 'secret force' and paranormal sensitivity that a lot of people are afraid of? Did he really advice the Reagans?*) Or was it Joan Quigley? Or did they both?

Neptune on IC is a Neptune opposite Midheaven. This position symbolizes a career related to beliefs, ideals/ideology, media and/or mediums or... the movies! Neptune is the symbol of television and all that can't be smelled, seen or touched. It is the symbol of fantasies and what is fake.
His career started when he moved to Hollywood, a very Neptunic place...

Neptune rules his first house (Ascendant Pisces) and is calling (no aspects in orb 5 degrees), just like Saturn is. Midpoint Saturn/Neptune is connected to Midheaven and Sun by means of hard minor aspects. Saturn/Neptune is the midpoint of involuntary detachment  So I found it interesting to read that he hardly ever left his spacious house in the late sixties**). That is also in line with the 12th House Moon and Pisces Ascendant. It takes some study and being alone to study charts:).

Anyway, Carroll Righter had the Jupiter-Uranus 'helicopter view' connection and Pallas in 10 for using patterns as tools to be an astrologer. He had a lot of influence and probably loved the idea (Sun trine Pluto). He made astrology popular, too. With Mars in Aquarius in the 11th house, rising before the Sun and sextile Jupiter, he also had the energy to promote astrology.  This combination mirrors a drive to convince others (just like we see in the charts of the preachers in this post: http://astropost.blogspot.nl/2010/12/preachers-charts.html).
There is also an important Saturn (no aspects in sign within orb 5 degrees) for an important amount of ambition.

THE GOOD MOMENTS
But it also takes good opportunities and starry moments. Righter had his one with Transit Jupiter trine his natal Sun, when Marlene Dietrich became his devoted client after having ignored his warning for an accident (and breaking her ankle).

A long long time ago, in the year that I was born, Carroll Righter became a columnist. That was with progressed Midheaven and transit Jupiter conjunct his natal Sun AND Progressed Ascendant opposite Jupiter, all that, for a golden opportunity.

NOTES
***67.5 is a minor aspect, a semi sesquisquare

Innovative science; Jupiter-Uranus + Mercury-Saturn

Today I read about Leslie Dewan, born November 27, 1984 and already a celebrated scientist. She is one of the two co-founders of Transatomic Power - innovative way to use nuclear waste for clean and safe energy-. Now what if that could be a success?

In astrology innovations are part of the vocabulary related to Jupiter+Uranus and science is Mercury + Saturn.
Dr Dewan's  chart is in line with that.

There are keys (Jupiter-Uranus) to being innovative, surprising or 'different' in a positive way:
1. Sun in Sagittarius with Moon in Aquarius. Sagitturius is ruled by Jupiter, Aquarius is ruled by Uranus. This combination of Sun and Moon adds to a helicopter view.
2. This goes with Jupiter semi sextile Uranus for innovations, sudden windfalls and a helicopter view

Mercury and Saturn (the combination of science) are special.
3. Mercury and Saturn are  'calling' (not making narrow aspects in sign) for science
4. Saturn rises before the Sun (the classics, status and management come first)
5. Mercury is Out of Bounds (declination 25°42' 6" S), just like Moon and Venus

So, on that particular day in 1984, there was a big chance for a scientist to be innovative! It doesn't mean that everybody born that day was to be a scientist, but whatever that person does will be serious and ambitious and somehow innovative, surprising or 'different' in a positive way. It very much depends on the hour of birth and circumstances, genes, culture and social position in whAt way...

dHere is the chart for that day:

Virgo astrologer Edith Wangemann

Edith Wangemann was born August 29, 1917 in Germany. Together with her husband, and after his death alone, she practiced and studied astrology. She was married to an astrologer (Helmuth Wangemann). A picture shows that he knew Reinhold Ebertin. I have no idea how they made a living.

Astro.com mentions the couple's scientific approach. In her chart this might be mirrored by the position of their Saturn, rising before the natal Sun. This post is about the astrologer in her chart and about the way that Sun in Virgo shows up.

ASTROLOGER AND JUPITER+URANUS
Cosmic awareness is perhaps one of the best descriptions for Jupiter/Uranus midpoints and aspects. This aspect- or midpoint combination for the helicopter view is always present in the charts of astrologers (and astronauts). Maybe even also in the charts of astronomers, LOL.
It's also the midpoint of being inventive and the transit of 'sudden windfall'. Maybe, in the case of astrologers, the windfall is less 'unexpected':)...

There is also a Jupiter/Uranus connection in the chart of Edith Wangemann.
In the chart of Edith Wangemann midpoint Jupiter/Uranus is square Midheaven. The natal Sun is square Jupiter in Gemini*) and in quindecile (165d) aspect with the 'calling' VIP Uranus.  Her Sun/Moon midpoint semi square Mercury indicates that she was very motivated to communicate about her main interest (astrology).

Click for a better picture

BTW, her husband was an Aquarius with Sun square Jupiter and sextile ruler Uranus.

THE VIRGO ASTROLOGER
Now, in what way did she practice being a Virgo?

- keep up the standards and never believe it all
- contribute to perfect data
- find ways to use astrology in every day's life (without drifting away, I mean)

By studying charts, keeping record of it and
*) She particularly studied the charts of twins. Gemini is the sign of twins.

Phrenology and Jupiter-Uranus

Yesterday I watched the comedy 'Hysteria'. One of the characters was a phrenologist. A what???Google and Wikipedia helped me on the way. Now I found the date of birth of Franz Joseph Gall, the first phrenologist.

Phrenology was considered a science and part of psychology. By examining the head the phrenologist could tell the character (and future) of someone. Bump feeling, yes? That is amazing, isn't it?

On this blog you find a number of examples of astrologers with either Jupiter/Uranus midpoint-Sun combinations or aspects of the Sun with Jupiter AND Uranus or ...well: with Jupiter and Uranus, the symbols of the helicopter view, helping them to get involved in astrology. Now I found the date of birth of Franz Joseph Gall, the first phrenologist. Phrenology was considered a science and part of psychology. By examining the head the phrenologist could tell the character (and future) of someone. That is amazing, isn't it?

Jupiter/Uranus is inventive. So was Franz Joseph Gall, I presume. Here is the chart of the day that he was born.

Gemini Astrologer Alice Ann Bailey

Alice Ann Bailey wrote about 30 books on various ancient subjects and was an occult (esoteric) astrologer. With Jupiter/Uranus midpoint conjunct Sun, and both Jupiter and Uranus connected with Midheaven, she has a key to astrology. Her MC-routing ends in Mercury ruler 3, her Sun is in Gemini and her Moon is in the 3rd house. This all leads to writing.

In the time of Alice Ann Bailey, there was much interest in the occult. Maybe she was triggered to study this subject by the 'calling' Virgo Moon, ruling the 12th house. Neptune square and Pluto quintile the Ascendant help to create the right atmosphere for mystery. I can imagine that her Gemini Sun was curious enough to have a look...

Aries astrologer Joan Quigley

It is April 10, the birthday of Joan Quigley, one of the most noted astrologer's in the USA, because she was Nancy Reagan's private astrologer since 1973 (her progressed Midheaven trine her natal Uranus). Astrodatabank mentions that unsuccessfully tried to start a dot.com business in 2001 (with Progressed MC semi square Pluto and progressed Sun square Uranus).  She is 87 now and the transits of Uranus, Pluto and Jupiter all hit her progressed Sun lately.

The importance of the angular Mercury, the angular Jupiter and the 'calling' Uranus*) would already point at the 'helicopter view mind' that is required to study (Mercury) astrology (Jupiter-Uranus), but also shows how important communications (Mercury), techniques (Uranus) and guidance (Jupiter) are in her life, apart from family matters (Ceres).   The Aries Sun shows enterprise and the Leo Moon is for the glamour. Being the advisor of USA's First Lady is of course something to be proud of. The cool Virgo Ascendant is trine Venus, corresponding with the fact that she was pretty. Perhaps Sun in 8 inconjunct Ascendant shows us that she was 'a star' in the eyes of many, but (inconjunct = 'but') exaggerated, or at the cost of her own lifestyle.

Her Pluto is conjunct the Sun of Nancy Reagan, whose Saturn is inconjunct the Sun of Joan Quigley and opposition Quigley's Jupiter. So there is a Sun Saturn side for Nancy Reagan and a Sun Jupiter Pluto side for Joan Quigley, corresponding with the fact that the relationship was a success for the astrologer while people mocked Nancy Reagan for consulting an astrologer (even Barack Obama did).

Well, let's not be sad about the lack of appreciation and let's find the astrology in her chart that you see here with transits and progressions for today, her birthday.

1. Uranus is 'calling' (no aspects in 5 dg orb or in sign) and rising before the Sun + at Aries Point.
2. Jupiter is opposition Ascendant.
So both Jupiter and Uranus are important

Midpoint Jupiter/Uranus is in the 25th degree of Pisces, square Mars in X (and square the Galactic Center)

I also like Neptune/Pluto midpoint semi square Midheaven for the discretion that was required in her position.

Here is an interview with her in 2002 called 'The cosmos of Joan Quigley'
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4T-Cxh5SPWI
I hear her say that she entered the mass market in the early 90's and found that she couldn't deal with it, because there is no mass astrology (very true) and that one day astrology will be recognized (I have my doubts…but I am glad that I did:).

Aries astrologer Dane Rudhyar

It is Aries time, time for the chart of an Aries astrologer. In 2008 I wrote about the chart of Dane Rudhyar, born March 23, 1895. I mentioned the creative quintiles, the musician and the astrologer in his chart. There is always Jupiter-Uranus in charts of astrologers and they were generous with Jupiter-Uranus combinations when Dave Rudhyar was born. Quoting myself:

" In the chart of Rudhyar we see the Moon in Aquarius trine Jupiter, the combination of the calling Uranus and the ascendant in Sagittarius, but most of all the midpoint combinations with Jupiter and Uranus as an indication for the metier.
Here we go:
Sun 157.5 Jupiter/UranusJupiter 157.5 Uranus/Nodes and 135 Asc/MCUranus 157.5 Moon/Jupiter and 90 d from Jupiter/MC"
HOW did Dane Rudhyar show being an Aries? He was a pioneer in humanistic astrology!

PS
a. 157.5 is the well known sesquisquare (135d) + half semi square (22.5). It is a minor, but not to be overlooked aspect.

b. a 'calling' planet is a planet without major (Ptolemaic) aspects in sign or orb 5 degrees. These planets show up at any kind of level, somehow and anyhow.

Pisces astrologer Alfred Witte

What is true about the story that Hitler used astrology to guide him trough the war (and into defeat)? Louis de Wohl http://astropost.blogspot.nl/2008/03/birth-chart-of-louis-de-wohl-astrologer.html made a living as a spie, telling the British what move was to be expected if Hitler followed the advice of an astrologer. It wasn't Alfred Witte. Alfred Witte was a victim of the Nazi terror.

The astrologer is in his chart like this:
-       Sun in Pisces (ancient ruler is Jupiter)
-       Moon Aquarius
-       Sun semi square Jupiter
-       Sun quindecile Uranus
-       Jupiter inconjunct Uranus (helicopter view with a loss involved)
-       Midpoint Jupiter/Uranus is semi square Sun

Pisces Astrologer Alfred Witte, the man who introduced the midpoints (a+b)/2 in astrology again, was arrested by the Nazi’s in 1941 and killed himself subsequently. Some of his students ended in concentration camps. The theme of (the danger of) unnatural death is in his chart: Mars conjunct Pluto, sexile Saturn (see the links for more information). On the day of his death transit Saturn was square Venus, Mercury and Moon.

Jupiter-Uranus is the astrologer’s combination. Uranus is the focal planet and perhaps Jupiter is opposite MC.

I deliberately avoid to use house positions or rulers here, because I  wonder if Witte corrected his natal chart so that it would be conjunct fixed star Spica. Robson says that Spica rising means good fortune (more than to be expected) and given Alfred Witte’s tragic end I dare to say that this is wrong.  Maybe the 9:12 was also related to that Jupiter on IC…?
The source note of Astrodatabank says that Wangemann gave a time of 7:54 p.m. but Astro.com uses a chart with a quoted hour of birth of 9:12.  In the 7:54 chart Quaoar is on MC. You see the Astro.com chart here, with transits and progressions for the day of his death:

Click for a larger picture

PISCES AND HIS ASTROLOGY
In the series of astrologers and their sun signs I like to point at the impact of the sign in the work of the astrologer. His sign is Pisces. Witte was victimized. It might be very Pisces, this sacrifice (and hopefully  rare) but there was also an element of Pisces in his work. He believed (Pisces!) in a range of calculated positions for imaginary transneptunian or Uranian planets named
Hades, Zeus, Kronos, Apollon, Admetos, Vulcanus and Poseidon.

Aquarius Reinhold Ebertin, astrologer

Today is the birthday of Reinhold Ebertin, the author of my favorite astrology book: Combination of Stellar Influences. My Dutch version of the book is already falling apart, as you see above, but I also have a new English one.

I wrote about the astrologer in his chart, before, in 2008. Today I corrected this post and I added that the German Wiki informs us about sympathies for "Nazi" theories, demonstrated by publications and membership of a dubious club. Before, I heard that he was arrested in Nazi time. It is very much in line with a Sun trine Neptune aspect, this unclarity…

It is a pity!

It doesn't change the fact that COSI is one of the best books if you want to study astrology. There is nothing controversial (politically) in that book, that was translated in 1961 and first appeared in 1960. That happened to be the year that transit Pluto was conjunct his Mars and therefore trine his Jupiter (he had a tight Mars trine Jupiter in the natal chart). That is a combination that he described as a 'brilliant success'! Here is the chart with transits and progressions of 1960.
Click for a lager picture

About the astrologer in Ebertin's chart:
In the natal chart Jupiter is on the Ascendant (conjunct Chiron). The Sun is septile this prominent Jupiter and quintile Uranus. Also, Uranus in Sagittarius is semi square Sun/Jupiter.
Jupiter-Uranus combinations (the helicopter view) are almost always seen in the charts of astrologers and those who study astrology.

Aquarian Astrologer Louis de Wohl and 10873

In the series of astrologers and sun signs it is now time for the astrologer born under Aquarius. I refound Louis de Wohl, German astrologer born January 24, 1903 (picture on astrology.co.uk). In the earlier article on his chart on this blog I wrote about Jupiter and Uranus:
De Wohl was a true astrologer. Jupiter and Uranus are vital components in the charts of astrologers and De Wohl has a lot of indications pointing at Jupiter and Uranus. The Ascendant is in a Yod with Jupiter and Uranus. Mercury is aspected by Jupiter and Uranus. The MC is tightly connected with Jupiter and Uranus . Jupiter is semi square Sun/Uranus. And the MC-routing ends in the mutual reception of Jupiter and Uranus. He was recruted with transit Uranus square progessed Ascenand and the progressed MC sextile Jupiter and semi square Pluto.
Click for a larger picture

Amazing how I can't seem to find more famous astrologer born under Aquarius, supposedly the sign of astrology:). I opened and closed numerous files on Astrodatabank and ended with the chart of Astrologer 10873, gender unknown, born on February 17, 1948 with Sun in the 29th degree of Aquarius sextile Jupiter in Sagittarius. Jupiter is prominent (rising before the Sun) and is opposition Uranus. I don't know if he still has a practice and apparently he hasn't published about astrology, but at least: he was interested and offered readings. The Jupiter-Uranus pattern is there.

In what way De Wohl demonstrated being an Aquarian astrologer (and not, say, a Taurus)? I think it is in the application of astrology as a new technique in war times:).

Steven Forrest, a Capricorn astrologer

In the series of astrologers (authors and professionals) and their sun sign, now it's time for Capricorn to see in what way the sun sign influences the astrologer's work. Here is the chart of a well known Capricorn astrologer that I found on Astro.com: the chart of Steven Forrest.
Click for larger picture or go to the Astro.com link above

The astrologer in the chart is often (if not always) shown by important Jupiter-Uranus combinations. In this chart like this:

- Jupiter rises before the Sun
- Uranus is 'calling' (no major aspects in sign or orb 5 degrees)
This makes Jupiter and Uranus very important!
- Sun/Jupiter midpoint is sesquisquare Uranus for the 'helicopter view'

Astro.com mentions that he studied religion. For this, see the Sun in aspect with both Jupiter and Neptune. Finally, I like to point at Pallas on the Descendant, mirroring the importance of seeing patterns (and often important in charts of astrologers).

What's Capricorn -the sign of management - to do with that? Perhaps Saturn on Midheaven and Capricorn Sun manifest themselves in the fact that he is Chair of the Kepler College Advisory Council and a member of the ISAR Ethics Committee. The 3rd house cusp is in Capricorn and the ruler of the 3rd house (Saturn) is on Midheaven, while ruler MC is in 3. The importance of the 3rd house and ruler 1 in 9 shows us the 3-9 axis of educations and publishing.

Cosmic awareness and: Yuri Lonchakov quits

Astronaut Yuri Lonchakov resigned. He said he found a better job. Let us see about the transits and progressions for now and let's find the 'helicopter view' or 'cosmic awareness' in his natal chart of March 4, 1965.

JUPITER-URANUS
The combination of Jupiter-Uranus is the combination of cosmic awareness (the helicopter view, seeing things from a higher perspective). That is why this combination is so prominent in the charts of astronauts, astrologers and some modern popes.  It's not different in the chart of Russian astronaut Yuri Lonchakov. His natal Sun in Pisces is opposition Uranus and in minor aspect with Jupiter (a 67.5 degree half sesquisquare aspect).

URANUS-PLUTO
Saturn rises before his Sun and is conjunct Sun. First of all he is ambitious, cautious and serious. That is hardly in line with the hectic and impulsive Uranus-Pluto conjunction. But, right now Uranus is square Pluto. It is a wake-up call for the natal aspect. It is time for a change...

PLUTO = MARS/URANUS
Lonchakov's Pluto is on the midpoint Mars/Uranus. He was born with Uranus conjunct Pluto. Both Uranus and Pluto are opposition his natal Sun. These aspects tell us about urgency, turbulence and sudden measures. Maybe it is also the kind of aspect combination for a man who needs some stressy, risky and new excitement from time to time.

T&P
Progressed Mars is opposition Saturn: there is a dead end (he quit)
Transit Pholus is square Node: there is a turning point in his network
The Progressed Sun changed sign to Taurus: his life style changed
Transit Neptune is conjunct Venus: there is some kind of financial or romantic thing going on
Transit Uranus is conjunct progressed Mercury: accelerated decision making (a sudden idea), unusual  decision. (In the progressed chart Mercury is inconjunct Uranus)

This all doesn't explain why he said that he found something more exciting to do. But it certainly shows that what he said (Mercury) surprised others (Uranus) when he stopped (Saturn) working (Mars).
