EC AND ASTROLGOY: DUTCH COACH OF RUSSIA, RUSSIA AGAINST HOLLAND

Guus Hiddink is a very good Dutch football coach. He manages Russia to the European Championships and even got them in the quarter finales! Now, on the 21st of June, Russia plays against The Netherlands (coach is Van Basten). I wonder about that game...

WARNING: I WILL BE WRONG!:)
You know that I try to preview the final score of football matches by looking at the positions of the planets in the natal chart of the coach and the actual Midheaven. The nasty thing is that the whistle on the end of the game is often NOT in time (in the cases below 22h30) but up to 8 minutes later! And sometimes even more, when there are penalties to be taken. So don't bet on it, I don't either:) This is an experiment! An experiment that will fail anyway. It might be confusing for you, but as you see in the above chart, my Neptune is right on top of the chart of the final moment and so it seems that I will be all wrong:)

THE CHARTS

Here you see 3 charts of final moments with the positions of the coach on the outside. Sun and Jupiter are for celebrations, agreed? And Neptune is more contemplating, at least, ok? Now look at the charts...

a. Russia - Sweden in Innsbruck incl. ca. 5 minutes 'injurytime', positions of Hiddink on the outside. Results: Hiddink wins!

Clearly the same Sun and Jupiter on the MC!

c. Same moment, now with the positions of VAn Basten, the coach of the Netherlands.
Do I see Neptune?:( So, eh...

It is unbelievable and I dare hardly say so, but according to these charts, Russia might even win. But, because of the fact that both Hiddink and Van Basten have a Solar transit - Venusday, I guess they will end up equal. But in that case, there will be penalties and if the real end of the game would be 22h50, 'Orange' will win the game.

GUUS HIDDINK TO STAY IN RUSSIA Birth chart of a Dutch football hero...

On the 22nd of November 2007 I reported that Guus Hiddink managed to bring Russia to the European Championship (Football)and that he had that day:
Transit Sun conjunct Venus, Venus semi square Venus, Jupiter semi square Jupiter and Uranus trine Sun.

Today he continued his contract. He will stay in Russia till the championships in South Africa in 2010. I am not surprised that Russia wants to keep him. Guus Hiddink (born November 8, 1946 in Wisch, The Netherlands) seems to be able to make any team a winner, for exampel South Korea and Australia. Russia even beated England! How does he do it?

Hiddink has the qualifications of a true leader, a positive attitude and he is ehm...unique! But he is also full of passion. Notice the prominent Sun sesqui square Zero Aries for leadership! Just like other coaches he is dominating (Sun square Pluto). Jupiter rising before the Sun makes him a true international and optimist. Uranus is biquintile the Sun and does not make major aspects in sign. That makes him rebellious and creative in finding alternative solutions that improve the (football) world. The tightest aspect in his chart is Venus conjunct Mars. So that even without knowing his HOB it is easy to see: he has a passion for what he is doing and that is what makes him a great coach.

LOOKING BACK AT THE CHART RUSSIA-SPAIN AND...How about the EC2008 Final?

METHOD
I use:
- the right final moment of the match
- the tightest and growing aspects of the positions of the coaches with the corners of the chart
and with that in mind I look at the match Russia-Spain and the positions of the coaches on the outside.

RUSSIA-SPAIN
It is a clear picture at that moment and at that place: Sun of Aragonès conjunct the Descendant; Saturn and Mars are crucial in Guus Hiddink's case with a crucial Ceres on the Ascendant inconjunct his Sun. Inconjunct = for losing and giving up. Saturn is not the right planet to win a game with and Mars-Saturn in combination is 'end of fight, disadvantage of sports, dead end of energy'.
BTW I like the special role Ceres has in this chart. Ceres of Hiddink (the coach of Russia) is on the Ascendant of the final moment and... inconjunct his Sun. Ceres symbolises a.o. 'harvest'. And the 'harvest' had a mismatch (inconjunct) with his Sun.

It is obvious, provided that you know when the match finishes and up to now that might be up to 8 minutes after the official moment (and up to 38 minutes after prolongation).

THE EUROPEAN CHAMPION: SPAIN OR GERMANY?
With all that in mind I hesitate to look ahead at the final game on June 29, 20h45 - ??

I think Spain might be the winner. That is because at 22h34 Aragonès has his Sun trine the Midheaven of the final whistle (that I plan at 22:34:00:)
He also has Jupiter trine both progressed Mars AND Uranus. That 'shapes'a large trine of the combination Mars-Jupiter-Uranus, a combination that I consider to be the sign of a succesful operation or ...match.
His opponent Joachim Löw has Neptune on top at that moment, square Ascendant. I have been considering the effect of Venus-Neptune in the last game, but...Neptune is crucial now (tightly square Ascendant) and his Pluto is tightly square Midheaven! That combined with the positions of the Spanish coach makes me think that Spain will win instead of Germany. Also, transit Mars is afflicting his Saturn...
But I might be wrong this time, of course. Astrologers have the same difficulties in predicting as the weather forcast teams have. Statistics usually fail to work the other way around. So the fact that the methode works, does not mean that it will always work.

Edward Snowden's chart today

Edward Snowden, says an official, has blood on his hands. British and American spies had to be ‘rescued’ because Snowden handed over millions of files. He says that he did that to show that the West is violating human rights by spying civilians. He told us all what we already suspected: Big Brother Is Watching Us. It is been 1984 and he proved it. That makes him a hero in the eyes of millions. Later he fled to Russia (via China), a country where journalists are being murdered if they dare to criticize the leader, Vladimir Putin. Though he was a candidate for the Nobel Prize and has many fans and followers, he also made strong and powerful enemies. He gave away classified documents. Those documents were hacked (by Russia and China) and it is said that this enabled possible enemies to hurt the West (see http://www.thesundaytimes.co.uk/sto/news/uk_news/National/article1568673.ece). 

So, we have a controversial whistleblower. 

Whistleblowers are activists revealing secrets or scandals. 

The chart of Snowden is in line with that. It is the chart of an activist (Mars OOB rising before the Sun). He may be involved in scandals (Sun opposition Neptune), too.

Today we see:

1. transit Pholus square his progressed Midheaven (a nasty turning or trigger point) 

2. the progressed Sun sextile Chiron (shows ‘hurt’)

3. the progressed Sun in the final degree of Cancer. Final degrees of a sign are like the clock pointing at 5 minutes to 12: the moment that live and life style is due to change. His life already changed in a big way in this astrological period of change. 

NATAL CHART

The chart of Snowden is that of a Gemini with a strong personality (Moon in Scorpio*). The OOB Mars rising before the Sun tells us about a person who is first of all an activist, at any possible level. The Mercury-Uranus opposition on the chart’s horizon mirrors the dawning of a mental controversy and differences of opinion. This is an important aspect in the chart, as Uranus is the ruler of Midheaven and Mercury is the ruler of the Ascendant. The rulers of the corner stones of the chart are in conflict with each other, demonstrating the importance of freedom of thinking and freedom of speech .

Sun-Neptune oppositions may be day dreaming idealists and sometimes escapists (http://www.cafeastrology.com/natal/sunneptuneaspects.html ) The chart of Snowden has Sun opposition Neptune. Well, he actually escaped…

The aspects of the Sun with Neptune and Pluto enables discretion and secrecy, while Sun opposite Neptune raises the issue of identity and possible ‘double life’.

The chart shows an activist with a strong and controversial opinion, maybe not all too clear about himself. In fact, that is what he is.

ALIENATION

Minor aspects, major impact, I use to say. In Snowden’s chart the Sun is 157.5 degrees from Uranus (a sesquisquare + half semi square). The Sun-Uranus aspect is about alienation (estrangement) and being an outsider or stranger in your own world. In Russia, he is. In the USA, he was. The fact that to many persons in his own country he is a traitor and in Russia he is a stranger in exile matches with the Sun-Uranus minor aspect. You wouldn’t (and apparently the State of the USA couldn’t) immediately see that he was ‘different’, but he was and he is.

HERO?

It may depend on your political position how you see Edward Snowden. Is he a spie and traitor? Is he a hero? The chart doesn’t answer. The chart just shows us that there is a controversy regarding his person, an activist pur sang, and the question whether he is a hero or not, mirrored by Sun opposition Neptune.  Maybe he knows the answer to the Sun-Neptune question:

 “Am I who I think that I am, or am I who other’s think what I am?”

Living with astrology (and EC 2012 football)

One of the comments on this blog was about relying on astrology for 'every move'.  I started this post explaining how I use or don't use astrology, in a sort of a defense and I ended with football. Astrology is one of the ways to advice myself. I don't rely on astrology for 'every move' that I make. It is an extra. Astrology in itself doesn't create limitations or wipe out free will (unless you decide to do as your astrologer tells you to do, in which case you gave away control. That is not astrology's fault).  Astrology is not an island. Charts are interactive. Astrology is interaction between individuals, situations and charts. It is like football!

Football is a game, a match between teams. You can't win the pool simply by calculating the sum of brilliant players and a respected coach. You need to know the same about the other team. You also need to know conditions of teams and weather. And how to calculate surprising chances? That is why you can't win the pool always.  You can bet on it, but you will never know for sure. If you knew beforehand, you wouldn't have to play the game at all.
A natal chart is the reflection of a character. You need to know gender, genes, social conditions, culture and even more to really completely know about the person who was born with this chart. You won't be able to predict exactly what a person will do on a certain day and you can't decide for this person, based upon the chart only. You can only speculate with a certain percentage of accuracy. People are people and they are as unpredictable as the weather is.

There are posts about football and astrology on this blog, written during EC's.  In those posts I used the final moment of the match to see which coach was more pleased or down. Or better: I checked the positions of the natal chart of the coaches to see if and what kind of aspect the actual MC of the final moment made with their natal positions. I evaluated the results and found it a rather interesting method to see who had the best chance to be the winner (if you are sure that the coach wants to win). This time I didn't have the time to check them all. But tonight there is an important Portugal-Netherlands and yesterday a Dutch coach was involved in Greece-Russia. So I couldn't resist the ephemeris and this is what I found, using the chart of the final moment.

Greece-Russia
The times of football games are chosen by officials, not by the coaches. One of the two teams have to win (unless they play even). Yesterday the Greek won and Russia lost. The final moment was a few minutes and seconds after 20:30 Greenwich Time (22:30 MET).

Fernando Santos was born 10th October 1954 in Lisbon.  He coaches the Greek team. Santos Jupiter and Uranus 'responded' to the horizon (Ascendant-Descendant) shortly after transit Ascendant inconjunct Pluto. The stress was almost too much, but once the referee whistled, there was relief. At the official final moment Midheaven was square Pluto: a position of value had been reached. Greece was back! (Pluto-MC is reflecting a come back with stress)

Dick Advocaaat was born September 27, 1947 in the Netherlands. He had a nervous day of tension (transit Sun conjunct his Uranus) and at the final moment transit Midheaven was inconjunct Uranus. Inconjunctions don't promise a victory. They are about loss and losing balance (see Astromarkt). A surprising (Uranus) loss (in conjunct) as a result (MC): disqualified.

Portugal-Netherlands
Tonight The Netherlands have to win with at least 2 more goals than Portugal and only if Germany wins, too, the Dutch team won't have to go back to Holland. Chances are low and they have a considerable risk of disqualification.
They play against a team with a coach (Paolo Bento, born June 20 1969) who has a Sun-transit Jupiter day today (a lucky day) and at the final moment you see some content (Transit MC inconjunct his Venus).  He might loose and still be pleased.

 The Dutch coach Van Marwijk however has the same kind of aspect that Dick Advocaat had the night before: Transit MC inconjunct Uranus. Now what will the result be? We will soon know if transit MC in conjunct Uranus really means disqualification. That could happen even with a 0-1 or a 0-2 (if Germany looses).

This is not a prediction. This is the analysis of a moment in time and the interaction of that moment with natal positions of coaches. This interaction might mirror their response to the results of the match. I used it in 2008 and it worked. Let us see about 2012:).

Coaches can't avoid a moment or a date of a game. If you can, do you check your ephemeris? And what is your opinion about that? Is it acceptable to take the chart's positions into account for important decisions? Do the poll!

Obama-Putin today: lots of Mars

You know that Mars is the planet of competition, struggle and war (with Eris, IMO). Yesterday Barack Obama, President of the USA had a long phone call with Vladimir Putin, President of Russia and it was about Ukraine. In that republic they got rid of the leader, who was pro-Russia. In the republic is a large population of Russians AND there is a strategic harbor, so Russia wants to protect it's interest. On the other hand, the new government wants to be liberated from the Russian influence and join Europe. The eastern part of Ukraine is more willing to support Putin. What now? I don't know, I just know that right now Obama and Putin are under the influence of Mars. Putin just had his Venus return, but there is also transit Mars on his Midheaven. Obama's progressed Mars is conjunct Putin's progressed MC and also conjunct transit Mars. They are both activated, irritated and in a state of competition. That doesn't sound peaceful. But maybe John Kerry can be the bridge between them. His Prg Venus (symbol of balance and diplomacy) is square transit Mars, the progressed Mars of Obama and the progressed MC of Putin.

NETHERLANDS-RUSSIA 1 -3

Guus Hiddink, the Dutchman who coaches Russia, had very good prospect for the game Netherlands - Russia. At about 22h35 in Basel the local MC was opposition his Jupiter. It was 1-1 and the game was prolonged. At 23:10 his Venus was conjunct the MC, the game ended and he had won.

Marco van Basten, the coach of The Netherlands, had Neptune conjunct MC at 22:35. Although the Netherlands performed very well before, the fact that in the solar return of Van Basten for this year Saturn was conjunct IC made me wonder about the victories.

For myself this is a moment that I value astrology even more than I did before (and that was already a high value:)

The love life of Catherine the Great

Catherine the Great of Russia wasn't named 'the Great' because she was a great lover, but it could have happened. Many more of less unvoluntary lovers shared her bed. Now that it is almost Valentine it is maybe time to pay some attention to her chart. When I was in Saint Petersburg they told me that Catherine the Great (who lived in the Hermitage) had probably about 70 young lovers in her life. Later I saw a documentary about the erotic and pornographic art that she had hidden inside the palace. The Germans documented the works and there are still photos. However, the works have gone and was probably destroyed by soldiers who used them as a sort of a ' Playboy'. Who was that Great Catherine?

She was born in Germay, in Stettin, and she married Emperor Peter III of Russia. Later she divorced him. One week later he died. From that moment on she had a desire to be in the company of tall, young and blond officers, until days before she died at age 67.

I don't know if these officers had the desire to be with her, but they just had to. 

What does her chart tell us about her love life, the many lovers and the exaggerated erotism? 

a. Venus is conjunct Moon. She had a desire to be loved and a need for beauty, style and art. The more sophisticated side of that desire was expressed by teaching the people by means of expostions and libraries. 

b. Venus and Moon were opposition Midheaven. That increases the importance of the needs. 
c. Venus and Moon are in Gemini, the sign of 'more than one' and ' eternal youth' (like the young god Mercury, ruler of Gemini). She had a preference for young men. 
d. Mars rises before the Sun in Taurus. This iron lady had a lot of energy and wouldn't be content with reading novels and embroidery.
e. There is a Yod with Pluto in the eight house of life, death and ...sex. Pluto is the apex in the combination with Mars and Saturn (together they are the combination of unnatural death - did she murder her husband? that is still the question). A yod is a combinaton of two inconjunctions and a sextile. The inconjunction of Mars and Pluto points at exaggerated use of power, money and influence. The inconjunction between Saturn and and Pluto shows the 'surviving instinct'. 

f. The astrological equivalent of ' many'  is ' Jupiter'. This planet is in her fifth house of games, plays, entertainment, children, creativity and ...lovers.

g. I almost forgot to mention the tight Venus inconjunct Uranus. This aspect is mirroring an extraordinary (inconjunct) sudden changing (Uranus) preference (Venus). In other words: she falls in love again and again... Had she been an ordinary 21st Century celebrity, she would have married and divorced and been in the news because of her love adventures every now and then. The two inconjunctions between planets related to sex and love life point at lack of balance (hormones, perhaps). Together with the prominent placements of the planets of love and sex (Mars, Moon and Venus) in aspect with Pluto (apex of the Yod) in the eight house of sex, life and death we get the picture...

Just like Henry VIII abused his power, Catherine did. She didn't marry her lovers, she 'only' used her officers. And perhaps she killed one husband, but she was very generous to her former lovers. One of those lovers was 40 years her junior. You see her chart and his natal positions (the transit positions) here:

The friendship in the synastry of Putin and Schroeder

Thirty percent of the Dutch and perhaps even a larger percentage of Eastern Europeans are afraid for a next World War. That is because of the crisis in Ukrain and the possible threat coming from Russia in the Baltic region (Nato territory). Meanwhile, former German chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and Vladimir Putin are good friends. Schroeder sort of defended his friend in an interview and now he is 'under fire'. Where in the charts can we see that?

First the relationship between the charts of Putin and Schroeder.

When I look at the compatibility of charts, I always include the 'shared' aspects. In this case, both Schröder and Putin have a 'calling' Venus. When Venus 'calls' the ladies keep calling you:), but there is more. Venus is the symbol of diplomacy and charm. When Venus doesn't make an aspect in sign or orb 5 degrees, Venus is 'calling'. That means that you may manifest style, charm, diplomacy and perhaps a bit of vanity at any possible level, somehow and anyhow. As they both have this calling Venus, they share the same tendency to be kind to persons they like (in a special way). Venus of Gerhard is sesquisquare the Venus of Vladimir, so even though they like each other, there may be some kind of frustration because they don't always have the same preferences, even though they are 'compatible'. It is pleasant that the Venus of Putin is close to the Ascendant of Schroeder. That makes him feel comfortable and loved. So let's say that there is mutual sympathy (sometimes frustrating, but still pleasant).

Putin is a Libra, Schroeder is an Aries and that shouldn't match (if they were partners). Gerhard Schroeder's Moon is in Libra, however, and the Sun/Moon midpoint of Schroeder is close to Putin's Sun, as a sort of a compensation for their different nature.

Sympathy can't be enough to keep these VIP-politicians 'going', so what's more?

A. Putin's Pluto is exactly conjunct the Midheaven of Schroeder. There is a certain kind of authority or something that impresses Schroeder. 

B. The Saturn of Putin is conjunct the Sun of Schroeder. Even though there is a barrier or something that stands in the way (like age, status), there is at least respect. 

So that Putin impresses Schroeder and Schroeder is impressed, while Putin respects Schroeder.

It is a mix of liking and admiring each other. This friendship isn't liked or admired in Germany today, re the crisis in Ukrain. That is obvious, when you see the chart of Gerhard Schroeder, with transits and progressions. He is in the news (Uranus) the bad way (inconjunct) and subject to criticism. Friendship with the 'enemy' is not done. 

1. Saturn on his way to square Midheaven (criticism, end of a certain status) for the 2nd time
2. Progressed Midheaven inconjunct Uranus (alienation, upheaval with a loss of status)
3. Transit Saturn is about to make an inconjunct with progressed Venus (hurt feelings)

THE LUCKY CHART OF GUUS HIDDINK (going to Chelsea)

Chelsea is lucky. They got Hiddink! Guus Hiddink is the best coach I know and that is not just because he is Dutch:). He is an international (Jupiter rising before the Sun), he has authority (Sun in Scorpio sesquisquare Aries Point and square Pluto) and he managed to make winners of losers (like in Korea and Russia). His Mars is 'calling' (not making aspects in sign or orb 5 degrees) for a special drive! His chart is reflecting successful action and a strong will (many placements in fixed signs). He was born in Wisch (now part of Varsseveld) on November 8, 1946.

JUPITER AND URANUS
There is a progressed inconjunction in his chart: Sun inconjunct Uranus for a sudden and maybe disproportional or unbalanced change or move in life. It is a change with a 'but', like always with inconjunctions. He is going to do this as a favor to the Russian owner of Chelsea and just for a period of time (interim). Nevertheless, there is also Uranus trine progressed Jupiter (for a relief; maybe it is cold in Russia:). Transit Jupiter is square his natal Jupiter and opposition his Saturn (for the advantages of disadvantages) and transit Uranus is square his natal Uranus. A lot of Jupiter-Uranus and some difficulties coming along, but it looks like he is going to experience a pleasant - though perhaps short term - move to England.

Chart of Anna Chapman's day of birth

Anna Chapman is a Russian/British business woman recently deported back to Russia in a spy ‘trade’. With transit Jupiter conjunct the progressed Sun, traveling could be included…J Jupiter is the symbol of the international. Anna Chapman was hot international news.

Anna Chapman was born Anna Kushhenko in Volgograd and this is about the chart of her day of birth, with transits and progressions for today. Wikipedia mentions that she is well educated and that she married twice. She grew up in Russia and worked in London in 2001 (age 19). The Sun square Uranus, both afflicted by Mars, and the semi sesquisquare Sun-Neptune are part of her chart and life story. They show us how she was/will be a stranger in communities and how she was/is not always clear about herself.... Her Mars-Uranus affliction is shared by two famous spies: Mata Hari and Christine Keeler. 

Dick Advocaat's switch to Russia

Dick Advocaat is Russia’s coach as from May 2010. They seem to like Dutch coaches over there. Guus Hiddink is the coach now (he left to coach Turkeye, see the post about that move...). It seems that Mr. Putin himself asked him to leave the ‘ Red Devils’ in Belgium alone. It might also be important that the Russians offered tol pay him 10 times as much as the Belgians do.

With transit Neptune square Midheaven and inconjunct Mars it is no surprise that the media and the public is not happy with his decision. They are filetting him! Very much in line with an inconjunction of Mars… Another interesting thing: the deal with the Russians hasn;t been completed yet, but Dick Advocaat already resigned. (I hope that the Pholus on his Ascendant means shooting WITH his foot and not shooting his own foot:)... Isn't he cheaper now that he resigned, I wonder?)

Grand duchess Anastasia June18, 1901 - July 17, 1918

For years there was a rumor that Grand Duchess Anastasia survived the slaughter in Russia, but it seems that she was murdered together with her family members on July 17, 1918. Her chart shows hard transits on that day:

1. Transit Mars sesquisquare Sun (being targeted, risk to get hurt)
2. Transit Uranus ruler 8 inconjunct Ascendant (a nervous shock and possible deadly incident)
3. Transit Pluto square Progressed Midheaven (stress and dangerous position)

As there are 3 violent aspects at the time, there is a risk for a major dangerous event. With the involvement of the 8th house, this crisis could end life itself.

In the natal chart we see (apart from an angular Mars), Ceres (dynasty, genes) square the Ascendant (circumstances, name, appearances) and Pholus (turning point, trigger point) reflecting the changing circumstances related to the importance of being a member of the Tsar's family.

Putin's grand square and 14th degree of Cardinal signs

There is a Grand Cross in the air: Jupiter in Cancer oppositie Pluto in Capricorn, square Mars in Libra opposite Uranus in Aries. It is like a high speed crossing point with a problem: who is first, who has the right to move first. Vladimir Putin has his Sun at one of the points of the crossing, in 13.9 Libra. He is part of the 'game'.

The 14th degree of cardinal signs includes the 14th of Libra, a degree affected by the transits of Mars, Jupiter, Uranus and Pluto at the same time. The Grand Cross means busy days for anyone with the Sun, Midheaven, Ascendant or Moon in a 14th degree of Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn...and lots of tension.
The tension in Ukraine seems to mirror the tension in the chart of the Russian leader. Why? Because the charts of leaders (and coaches) very frequently show what happens to the people (or the team).

The 14th degree of Libra is pictured in Zodiac Images. Janduz speaks of a scene with a man and a woman spying on each other like in a play.

Putin was a member of the KGB before he became a politician. Both jobs include strategies. Pluto is the symbol of policy, strategy and power. It is the first (dwarf)planet rising before Putin's natal sun and - if the time of birth is correct -, Pluto is also the planet on Midheaven. That is how important strategy, politics and power are in this chart. 

As Pluto and Midheaven are in the 22/23 degree of Leo there, transit Saturn in the first house is square his Midheaven.  It  could just be personal (he divorced last year) but with Saturn-MC there is always the sense of being alone, being aware of your responsibilities and mistakes, the public fall (of your pedestal or a real fall with consequences). But as his hour of birth could be wrong, I'd like to focus on the 14th degree of his Libra Sun and the Grand Square

OOB MOON CALLING SCORPIO ASCENDANT
Putin's chart has a 'calling' and out of bounds Moon in Gemini (perhaps inconjunct the Scorpio Ascendant). That Moon is a signal for a need to communicate and for needs and at any possible level, with surprising reactions.
So, his Moon is highly unpredictable.

The other side of the calling Moon is that what you need is so important, that sometimes you are overruled by your needs. If this Moon rises before the Sun, the person involved will be lead by needs and emotions.

This important, unpredictable 8th house (!) Moon tells us of his need to keep memories and history alive and to communicate that. The inconjunct with the Ascendant shows overreaction. The sentimental (Moon) journey (Gemini) comes in the shape of a Scorpio Ascendant, defensive by nature. It is what happens and what the Russians say: they feel that they are defending their interests and the Russians in Ukraine and Crimia. A historical after-cold-war mistake now creates tension.

And his Mars is also out of bounds (for the workaholic).

GRAND CROSS DEGREES
The tension of the Grand Square maybe makes him very nervous and stressful, but also brings him success. He (and because of his position: Russia) choose to support Al Assad in Syria and Assad is winning. He invaded Crimia and he is allowed to keep it. There are indications for his successes.

1. In the progressed chart Mars is square Jupiter (and the square is getting tighter)
2. Jupiter and Pluto square his natal sun means midpoint Jupiter/Pluto on his Sun = success
3. Jupiter and Uranus in hard aspect with his Sun contribute to relief and unexpected progress
4. Mars and Jupiter in hard aspect with his Sun help him to move on
5. Uranus and Pluto in hard aspect with his Sun force changes (and rebellion)

The pictures of the Grand Cross degrees are:

1. A man coming out of a wine cellar, toasting, and a dog and a lion looking at each other, rather friendly (14 Aries)
2. A serene sky with a beautiful star above flowers. A crowned lamb nearby, decorated with a star (14 Cancer, a degree for fame)
3. 14 Libra is that degree of the spying couple, acting
4. 14 Capricorn is a degree of a frog playing the harp and means harmony

Now, who's afraid of the Grand Cross in such friendly, starry, harmonic and (OK) spying/acting degrees? The Wine Cellar 14 degree Aries man has Uranus for a surprising taste. The serene sky has Jupiter for even more success. The frog has Pluto (very convenient for the symbol of frogs). Only that Mars in Libra might be a problem, because there will be competition between the spying man and woman.

It is obvious that the Grand Cross brings tension. But, the 14th degree doesn't harm Putin up to now. In fact: he seems to get what he wants. He got the Olympics, he got Crimia. He sees his friend Assad win. And though it's lonely at the top, there must be compensation for that. Here is the chart with transits and progressions for now (click to enlarge):

Meanwhile, how is Obama (leader of the West) doing? The Grand Cross doesn't hit his chart at all. It is Saturn.

OCTOBER 2014 SATURN AND JUPITER
Saturn will be semi square his AC/MC midpoint (again) late in October 2014, when Putin gets transit Saturn square MC. It the same 'coincidence' that occurred in early March, when I wrote about 'Lots of Mars' in their charts and synastry. I have no idea what to expect, but I know that Obama will have Jupiter on his Descendant mid October and that Putin will see transit Jupiter on his Midheaven in November. AC and MC of Putin is less sure than of Obama's!

How to interpret this? Only if you know what happened between now and October you can be certain that it means a successful ending for both. Let's hope that it is a successful ending of the new cold war. BTW:
