Mars+Eris= Eris militaris

In 'The astrology of terror' I mentioned Mars, Uranus and Eris as important indications in a chart (see: http://astropost.blogspot.nl/2015/11/the-astrology-of-terror.html ) Today I like to tell you more about aspects with Eris and their possible meaning and about the Mars+Eris combination. This combination is prominently present in the charts of acts of war (like terror). You can see it in the charts of:

1. Pearl Harbor (http://astropost.blogspot.nl/2010/12/chart-of-pearl-harbor-december-7-1941.html ) with Mars opposite Midheaven and Eris exactly square Ascendant on the moment of the attack (Japanese planes vs American fleet). 
2. It is in the chart of the moment when moslim terrorists started to kill the athletes sent to the Olympics of Munich by Israel. Mars in I was inconjunct Eris in the VIII. It was September 5, 1972, at 4:30 a.m.
3. The first one of the Twin Towers was attacked at September 11, 2001 at 8:46 a.m. when Mars was quindecile MC and 108d from Eris (that is 3/10 of the circle). Minor aspects sometimes have major effects.
4. The chart of the attacks on the Boston Marathon (April 15, 2013 14.30 hours) has the Sun between Mars and an VIII house Eris .
5. The Woolwich stabbing was with Eris in VIII, semi sextile Mars and inconjunct Ascendant , with Mars between Sun and Eris. 
6. In Parijs, last November 13, Mars was 157.5 d away from Eris. Eris was square Ascendant. Mars was opposite MC
7. The Thalys incident's chart: Mars 105 d Eris and midpoint Mars/Eris sesquisquare MC 

I wish that knowing this helped! But, because there are more of such aspect combinations each day, there are also moment for a possible attack each day, everywhere. Charts of the persons involved, the nations and the mundane hart... they all contribute to the picture. Mars and Eris also pop up during 'little wars', like Mars of one woman in conflict with another lady's Eris (and fighting for a man:). 

How to see Mars-Eris in the natal chart? I wonder: Recep Erdogan has Mars trine Eris: it must be easy to start a conflict with such a trine...  Eris is still rather new in astrolog. She is Malafide, ruining the fairy tale for the Sleeping Beauty. I'll play with possible combinations. For example: Eris + Ascendant might upset relationships (to be or not be the one throwing the golden apple:). Moon-Eris: used to discord. Mercury-Eris: bitchy words? Eris+MC in the most positive sense: mediator? Venus-Eris: like to have conflicts (and make it up). And Sun? I have an example.

Samantha Lewthwaite, terrorist daughter of a British soldier, has Sun sextile Mars and trine Eris (with Mars wider opposite Eris).She was born December 5, 1983 (4 positions in Sagittarius, Jupiter between Sun and Neptune and Mars exactly sextile Uranus, all to match the pattern of terrorists that you see in the earlier post mentioned above). Doesn't Sun-Mars-Eris also refer to her father's profession, perhaps? I like to read Sun-Mars-Eris as the combiation of a life connected to war, battle and discord. 

Lewthwaite was born on the same day as a children's party in my country (December 5, Sinterklaas). There is a lot of fuss around that tradition right now. One of the things people do with Sinterklaas is putting a 'surprise' in a boot or shoe. May it not be an Eris Militaris (the spider above)!

PS Mars is now in 13th degree Libra. Retrograde Eris is in the 23rd degree of Aries. Midpoint Mars/Eris is in the 18th degree of Cancer/Capricorn today.

The Astrology of Terror

On Friday November 13, 2015 dozens of innocent men and women lost their lives in Paris. What can I say about this horrible drama? There are no words fort his. It feels just like September 11, 2001. That felt like a turning point, like war.

I wish that I could say that astrology helps to prevent any such act of terror by looking at the positions above and that astrologers could predict this kind of attacks, for the given time and place. But that is not so. Charts reflect events, not the other way around. Circumstances and situations color the aspects. 

There were of course general indications for heavy times and possible war acts in the mundane charts. The crisis may be over but there is Neptune in Pisces in the first 10 degrees (Migration, see ….) and there’s still an explosive war in Syria, in Iraq, in Afghanistan. And there is more:

1.   In ‘The Uranus square Pluto aftermath’ I mentioned the fact that AFTER the Uranus-Pluto square there were the Years of Terror in France (with the guillotine) and that this ended with Saturn square Uranus. We have to wait till 2011 for Saturn square Uranus! I hope that this doesn’t mean that there is no end in sight for the coming 5 years, but I fear it does. 
2.   The Astrological New Year’s chart of 2015 (I mean Zero Aries) had Mars conjunct Eris. There is such a conjunction every 2 years, but not in a New Year’s chart. It is an aspect that signals a possible beginnings of war. Mars was opposition Zero Aries yesterday.
3. In the myths, Mars is the ancient god of war. Eris is the goddess who caused discord and laughed when the other godesses faught for her golden apple. The chart of November 13, 2015 had Mars in a 157.5 degree minor aspect with Eris. Mars was opposition Midheaven and the elevated Eris was half semi square MC when the first explosion was heard. There is also Uranus on top of the chart.

Mundane aspects are valid for the whole world but they get their meaning in certain situations and circumstances. But people all over the world will somehow notice what happened there. We are all in Paris, in our minds.

The USA Ascendant, Ceres, Uranus and the nervous melting pot

The USA chart with Sagittarius rising in the 9th degree has Uranus opposition Ascendant and both square Ceres and in aspect with Eris and Nessus. In this post I wonder if the Ascendant degree explains the exciting and often nervous and angry melting pot and the importance of roots for the nation.

Dwarf planet Ceres is the symbol of motherhood, seeds, genes and roots. Uranus is the symbol of upheaval, independence, alienation and change (and more...).
Janduz*) called the 9th degree of Sagittarius one of 'exaltation' and the picture is that of a burning fire near a house that has been set to fire.

The history of the USA is a history of immigrants. It all started when immigrants drove the original inhabitants from their lands. We all know what happened next and what is going on today. The USA chart could be read (with the Ceres-Uranus conflict in mind) as 'racial instability' and 'alien roots'. As Eris symbolizes discord and Nessus revenge, with the 9th degree of Sagittarius there were conflicts on the the USA's horizon from the start.

The Ascendant-Descendant line of the USA Sagittarius rising chart with Uranus-Ceres (and Eris-Nessus) seems to tell us about a boiling melting pot. Jupiter rules Sagittarius. The planet of the 'international' rises before the USA Sun. Fortunately, Jupiter makes everything grow and gives hope.

Chart of Boris Johnson and direct communications

Boris Johnson, the conservative Mayor of London, is a Gemini born on June 19, 1964 in New York USA at 14.00 h. He was in the news lately, because he told a protesting cab driver to go away and die. That is maybe a surprising thing to do for a Mayor, but it’s not so surprising when you study his chart. There are a few explanations for the outburst. Mars rising before the Sun is always more aggressive and direct as others are. Eris in a key position doesn’t make it easy not to get mingled in disagreement. Here is the chart:

A list:

1 Mars in Gemini is the first outer planet that rises before his Sun, so that he first of all is direct (Mars) in communications (Gemini) and an activist (using words)

2. Mars is inconjunct the Scorpio Moon (when intents emotions get involved he may be too direct)

3. Eris is on the Descendant (there is always disagreement and discord on the horizon)

4. Eris is inconjunct Pluto (there is an overdose of intensity when there IS disagreement, with a price to pay).

5. Last but not least: Mercury is ‘calling’ (not making major aspects in sign or orb 5 degrees). He will communicate somehow, anyhow, and at any possible level… Boris Johnson was severely deaf as a child and quiet. Mercury is exactly trine Pholus, indication of a turning point in communications. He definitely had one!

CAREER

Boris Johnson was first a journalist (Mercury! Later he went into politics. For politics in the chart we see Mercury/Saturn semi square Pluto (the combination of strategic communications that Is almost always there in the chart of a politician). Pluto is sextile his Midheaven. But somehow, anyhow, Boris Johnson remains a man of direct and fast communications.

CharlieHebdo charts

Here is the chart of France (5th Republic, source Astrodatabank) with transit Uranus square natal Sun, mirroring the shocking state of the nation (and waking up the hard way, perhaps) following the brutal murders in the office of CharlieHebdo that made millions (and me) sad and angry. It was not the first terrorist attack in Europe. Madrid and London came first. It wasn't the first time that cartoonists in Europe were the target of terrorists. Denmark was first (see 'Birth chart of a cartoonist in danger'). The attempt to kill free speech in Europe started with Salmon Rushdie. After the brutal murder on Theo van Gogh (see post), threats for not welcome plays, movies or expositions in the eyes of islamists, anxious political correctness and the coming up of IS, it was quite clear that more was to come. Is it strange that now that Saturn entered Sagittarius, that this limited freedom of speech is the issue today?

In France, there were a number of attacks (some with cars) before, and the authorities stated that the men who committed these crimes were isolated lone wolves with psychological problems. Maybe the two brothers could be considered insane as well. They think that hurt feelings  - when their religion is involved - are a license to kill. They believe that their religion allows or even supports this and I am afraid that there are a couple of thousands like them.

Here you see the charts of the moment of the attack with (in transit) the positions on the days of birth of the two murderous brothers. It seems that their parents left them at a very young age. In the chart of the brothers, Sun-Uranus (major and minor aspect) tells us about possible alienation. They sure isolated themselves in the eyes of the majority, on January 7.

There is a Mars-Uranus connection in one of the terrorists' charts. I like to point at the fact that most of the terrorists' charts that I know of contain such a connection, as you can see on my site Astromarkt. Maybe, in case of restricted budgets, secret services could start to follow up on guys (and girls) with such a Mars-Uranus issue, because they are the front liners and the one with the short fuses. I wish that I was brave enough to be Charlie. I am not. I am anonymous and I always weigh my words carefully in spite of my Mercury opposite Uranus, because I am aware of the dangers. There is already such an amount of political correctness and fear in Europe, that in my opinion, freedom of speech has house arrest and will have to be strong to defend itself. The CharlieHebdo crew must have (had) special courage and special drives to dare to shock (and amuse) their public. It is in the nature of a cartoonist to walk on the edge, always. But it's only in the last decades that this might cost them their lives. This attack fuels the already existing tension in Europe. Politicians are afraid of what will happen next and hurry to tell us that we must not be scared. Paris is far far away?

Life went on after 911, after London, after Madrid and nothing much changed except that columnists, cartoonists, cabaretiers and journalist have more and more turned to political correctness, because they love life. Let's hope, that just like in the books of Tolkien, the monsters will be defeated and we can all go back to our garden of flowers as usual, until the next attack. Will we have to get used to this, like in the Middle East, in Nigeria, in Syria? Does this really 'awake' us?

The sixties are past and gone. It seems like there is no more 'Age of Aquarius' (you know the song?) dawning (or has it started in March 2012, read this...).  It looks more like a decline, to the same dark ages that hold the people of countries like Iran, Syria and Nigeria. It will be hard to turn the tides. I am still looking for positive signs for future peace (and I don't mean after being defeated). Have you found any?

Eris and the charts, transits and progressions of the Kouachi brothers

Above is a scary picture for those who are afraid of spiders. It is a photo of a jumping spider named Eris Militaris. This picture was chosen because of the importance of dwarf planet Eris in the chart of two terrorists as I will show you. Eris is sesquisquare midpoint Sun/Moon in the chart of one and elevated in the chart of the second one. Eris (wrath, chaos and strife) is the goal and the motivation of terrorism.

It is the day of the big manifestation against terrorism in Paris. Here are the AA rated charts (source Astrodatabank) with transits and progression of the late Saïd and Chérif Kouachi, the brothers who murdered the staff of CharlieHebdo (see earlier post) for you to study.

Charts, as you know, can't be read without considering the genes, gender, situation, conditions and culture, age or period in history.  Charts are just astrological pictures of the sky for a certain moment. At that certain moment cats, dogs, birds, companies and human beings were born, people died and married or gave birth and there were accidents or happy moments for hundreds of thousands of people. The chart shows important items and issues. Astrologers see the picture of the sky as a reflection of a certain moment and they believe that the moment of birth (seeing the light) is the most important moment for a person. The picture of the sky shows the nature of the person. The charts of the brothers must also be seen in the light of their position in society and their background. That is even more important here, because their charts highlight the importance of genes and background (Ceres). And the importance (for them) of disharmony, discord and fights (Eris).

The oldest brother Saïd has a chart with :
a. Ceres (genes, dynasty) conjunct Ascendant, Sun conjunct IC (the point of family and background), b. Eris (the symbol of discord) elevated and inconjunct Sun (unbalanced disharmony, at cost of life)
c. the Moon in Leo (need to be a leader or draw attention) rises before the Sun (own needs and own family/group first)
d. The tightest aspect in his chart is Jupiter square Neptune. Jupiter-Neptune is the combination of the believing audience, the fans and followers and devotion. That is why Jupiter-Neptune is related to the movies, but also to beliefs and religion. A square is for a difficulty, a battle. This tight square makes being a follower or believer an important issue in his life.
e. The Sun-Uranus minor aspect refers to being an outsider, alienation, independence or rebellion.

At the time of the murders and of his death there were two in conjuncts:
1. progressed IC was inconjunct Uranus and
2. the progressed Descendant inconjunct Venus.
There is also an Eris-Node opposition. That is it.

His brother Chérif has a typical combination for terrorism:
1. Sun semi square Mars and conjunct Uranus. The Sun-Mars-Uranus combination is frequent in charts of terrorists, but doesn't necessarily mean that you have to be a terrorist, of cours. 2. Uranus rising before the Sun made it important to be controversial and 'different'.
3. Sun/Moon midpoint sesquisquare Eris motivated for disharmony and is motivated by it.
The Leo Ascendant is for drawing attention. That completes the picture.

At the time of the murders and of his death, we see:
- progressed Mars conjunct Descendant and
- transit Neptune square Uranus, conjunct cusp 8 (house of death) + square progressed MC,
- but also transit Jupiter inconjunct Mars
As a member of a group (of terrorists) you could see the chart as that of a man eager to act, motivated and at the time perhaps driven by an ideal.

Charts don't judge or explain. Charts show us how a person's astrological situation is and need to be interpreted. We must see them in the light of the background and circumstances and weigh all factors. Actors and sports men were born on their days of birth. There are many ways to deal with anger and aggression or energy.

The fact that it didn't take much to turn these brothers with these charts into killing machines - prepared to die in the name of their faith - is very scary. There is an important astrological signal in their charts that might be the key to their acts. Eris. Eris is important in their charts. The position of this symbol tells us that chaos, strife and disharmony was their goal (elevated Eris) and motivated them (Sun/Moon Eris). Eris is the symbol of jealousy. In the myth, she was the one not invited for the party (she always quarreled, that's why), seeking revenge by causing chaos and this ended in the Trojan war (with the famous Trojan horse, by the way). One named Paris was involved.

Quoting Wikipedia about Eris:

Strife whose wrath is relentless, she is the sister and companion of murderous Ares, she who is only a little thing at the first, but thereafter grows until she strides on the earth with her head striking heaven. She then hurled down bitterness equally between both sides as she walked through the onslaught making men's pain heavier. She also has a son whom she named Strife.

Is it coincidental that Eris became as important as Pluto (a dwarf planet) in the past decade, I wonder?   That doesn't give much hope. Maybe they can rename her, please, in Harmonia?:)

Midwinter and Xmas charts 2014

Winter solstice's chart is for 23:03 GMT this year (http://www.timeanddate.com/calendar/december-solstice.html) and for December 22, 0:03 in The Netherlands. The chart of that moment shows the Moon rising before the Sun (almost New Moon) and Jupiter as well as Saturn without major aspects within a 5 degree orb. 

NEW MOON DECEMBER 2014

Every year in December/January there is a conjunction of the Moon with the Sun in the astrological sign Capricorn. This year it is in the first degree of Capricorn. For those with the first degree of Capricorn, the New Moon is more important than to the rest of us. With this degree in the 10th house, they may expect changes in their public position, for example. When you were born on December 22/23, March 21/22, June 21/22 or September 23/24, the New Moon is in tight aspect with your natal Sun. This is your chance to find out if that really means change starting within a month. That is also true for those who have a 0-1 degree Capricorn, Cancer, Libra or Aries on the horizon (Ascendant-Descendant) or meridian (IC-MC) in the natal or progressed chart. In the 'Beeldgids van de dierenriem' (Helene and Willem A. Koppejan) there is a picture explained by Janduz of a couple holding hands but looking the other way. Another Sabian Symbol is that of a native American chief demanding power. The combination of this points at common or joined responsibilities to be the focus of the month to come. If your chart is being 'charged' by the New Moon, you are maybe about to experience changes in the field of responsibilities at work or at home. And if these changes happen to you, you know that New Moon worked for you:).

Christmas 2014

Most people simply want to know if their Xmas party will be fun. A third of them will check their sun sign to find out beforehand. 

The positions of Venus, Jupiter and midpoint Venus/Jupiter are the position of fun and joy and party time. During the days between Xmas and New Year those with Sun, Venus, Moon, Ascendant or MC in the 22nd (21-22) degree of a fire sign (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) are blessed with Jupiter in Leo Retrograde. This will help them to look back being happy even though there might be a less pleasant person who almost spoiled all the fun. If you were born on or around April 13, August 13 or December 13, this might happen to you. 

A pleasant and loving Xmas is for those with a happy Venus related to their charts. Birthdays between May 8 and 18, September 10 and 20, January 8 and 18 are the lucky birthdays of this year. There is also fun around for those with any position in natal or progressed chart between the 18th and 27th degree of the earth signs Taurus, Virgo or Capricorn. Check your chart!

The day after Xmas Venus will be inconjunct Jupiter to remind us of 'too big, too many, too much'. Your weight might understand this:). 

If your birthday is around end of October/beginnings of November or between January 25 and 31, the midpoint Venus/Jupiter will be on your natal Sun to make you feel happy with Father Xmas.

Of course, your individual charts and personal (or national) circumstances could keep you away from having a party. Xmas is a community celebration and it is a fact that not everybody will be able to join in. But, even if there is just a little bit of light on the horizon, try to be happy about the fact that this celebration has been worldwide for ages because it is the celebration of light and the sun growing. For those in a nasty period the come back of the sun with more light might help them see that there is hope, even in dark hours. That is what Xmas is about. Here is the Xmas chart of Rotterdam.  Christmas trine

Jupiter is trine Ixion, trine Pholus and trine Eris now. This triangle will be back again in 2015. As little study has been done about the dwarf planet Eris and the asteroids Ixion and Pholus, only time will tell what this trine will mirror. Eris is the symbol of disharmony, Ixion is the symbol of the 'bad guys', Pholus is the man who shot himself. Jupiter expands and helps (even our enemies). Trines are symbols of getting away with it and finding easy ways out. Lucky adjustments to be able to deal with nasty guys? Well, to get back to Xmas: maybe this Jupiter helps those with family problems:). I'll be on the look out for what happens during this trine.

Angry women and Eris; solar transits

I had transit Sun square natal Eris one day. For the first time I wanted to know how that aspect would present itself and payed attention to what happened related to 'discord'. Well, first I watched a so called 'fitty' on the internet. One woman for example said 'your dog has a nice nose' and when a man intervened and said 'Ladies, please', the other one answered;"Ladies? Seen that picture?" It sounded like Eris. Later that day I met her in person:).

Next time that transit Sun is in hard aspect with my Eris, I will surround myself with men only. However, as Eris is the symbol of discord in general and pops up in the charts of war events, I get the idea that Eris is not ladylike at all and sometimes disguised as a male warrior.

The transits of the Sun go bye and repeat and repeat until you are old enough to say: so what? The Eris that you meet on a Sun-Eris day is only important on that one day, unless you make her more important than she is. She is here for some discord. Play with her and stay on the sunny side.

Any aspect between Mercury and Jupiter is rather fortunate for communications and the reach of the voice. It is definitely one of the aspects contributing to success in the world out there. Jupiter, however, has an arrogant and exaggerating side that, with Mercury, doesn't really help human interactions. I wrote about that side of Mercury-Jupiter before and in that post I mentioned the late Mr. Phelps's Mercury inconjunct Jupiter.  Mr. Phelps knew how to broadcast hate speech.

Today, I have a new example of the difficulties of Mercury-Jupiter affliction: Donald Sterling, born April 26, 1934.  He was talking too loud. On April 9 this year there was an audio recording of a conversation that was released on April 25. He was arguing with his Stiviano who posted a picture on Instagram posing with Magic Johnson.
His Mercury is in Aries, opposition Jupiter. His progressed Mercury is at 16d Cancer now, square Jupiter. 

Whenever a transit or progression repeats a natal combination, the effect is harder than with other transits or progressions (see about 'resonance'), so it was likely to expect some kind of opinion being broadcasted loudly, as one might expect to happen with a person with a Mercury-Jupiter conflict (at least once in a life time). 

In the natal chart his Mercury is opposition Jupiter and square Pluto. That is a combination for an expanding vocabulary and success in communications or business. It might even be so, that in spite of what he said, there will be people supporting his opinion, because Jupiter helps blindfolded and not always according to our wishes. Mr. Phelps also had his supporters...
It is also true, that he had a great career. He really made it. He began as an independent divorce and personal injury attorney and became a business magnate, rich enough to own the Los Angeles Clippers (a team valued at 575 million dollars). Mercury is sesquisquare Jupiter/Pluto and that one of the indications for success on April 26, 1934.
It takes more of such indications, of course. But, as we don't know what time Donald Sterling was born, we will never know about his MC or AC, the exact midpoint Sun/Moon and/or angular placements, but I guess there will be more keys to success for us to find once that we know his hour of birth.

He probably always had that kind of ideas. In 2006 he was accused of racism, too. That was with transit Jupiter inconjunct his natal Mercury. Transit Saturn was square his Sun in that period. That transit mirrored criticism. Now, transit Saturn is trine progressed Sun (making it easy to criticize him:).

This time there are a few difficulties.

b. Transit Eris is square Progressed Sun (discord!)

c. Transit Mars is opposition Mercury (for a dispute)

d. And even more important: Donald Sterling's progressed Sun is conjunct Pluto, making way for challenges, stress and crisis. There will be consequences and maybe there is a price to pay. No matter how old he is, because there will be no discrimination.

So, there is more than enough astrological evidence for an angry dispute and the challenge of being 'a bad guy'.
