Peace Conference chart and Neptune

Geneva 2, Peace conference for , Montreux, Sw, 9:30 LT (Ahem) - What do you think?

This tweet by Jean Funken (@Astrostudies) triggered my interest in the chart of the official starting moment of the Syria Peace Conference in Montreux today. What do I think? I think about Neptune. Neptune is on the Ascendant. Neptune is also exactly opposition the natal Mercury of Assad. I remember my transit Mercury opposition Neptune as a bad day for communications and negotiations. Transits of Neptune are always confusing. This is my take on T Neptune-Mercury:

  • Transit Neptune with Mercury confuses the mind and tends to miscommunications.
In the eve of the conference thousands of pictures of starved, tortured and killed young men appeared, blaming Assad. Mercury-Neptune is one of the 'suspicious aspects' I wrote about earlier (http://astropost.blogspot.nl/2011/08/suspicious-aspects-re-west-memphis.html ) This aspect adds to unclarity and negotiations may end in a foggy way. Here is the chart of the conference again, now with in transit the positions at the day of birth of Assad, who is past the point of no return already (see that post: http://astropost.blogspot.nl/2013/08/pholus-and-point-of-no-return-in-chart.html )

Neptune may create an illusion, a media event only.
Low hopes, high stakes, they say ( http://www.npr.org/blogs/parallels/2014/01/20/264022368/low-hopes-high-stakes-for-syria-peace-conference-in-geneva ) How to give peace a chance?

Midpoint combinations: 3 in 1

Today I wanted to write about the death of Michael Hutchence (INXS), 15 years ago, but a comment on this blog about midpoints made me change my mind. So now I'll tell you about midpoint combinations and about midpoint combinations in the chart of Hutchence at the time of his death.

Here is some of my take on midpoint combinations.
a. Midpoint combinations are combinations of a position (planet/angle) in hard aspect with a midpoint (like Sun/Venus opposition Moon)
b. Midpoint combinations are the combination of all three of the positions involved (like Sun/Moon/Venus)
c. I prefer to use a 1,5 degree orb for the aspect with the midpoint combination
d. Tight aspects of 3 positions are an aspect combination (and often they form a midpoint combination as well).

THE MIXED MIDPOINT COMBINATION
I have written about midpoint combinations before here and on Astromarkt. What I always do is: mixing the three positions. There are more astrologers who do as I do. They generally disregard the subtle differences between, for example, Sun/Moon conjunct Venus and Moon/Venus semi square Sun. I see a Sun/Moon/Venus combination in both cases. I'd note them as Sun/Moon=Venus and Moon/Venus=Sun.
The first combination is important for being motivated by beauty, women, art and pleasure.
The second one highlights a need for luxury and style.
But in the end it is all about love life, entertainment and luxury in heart and soul. That is why my midpoint combinations are 3 in 1.

THE SINGER OF INXS (MICHAEL HUTCHENCE)
I mentioned Michael Hutchence, so why not use his chart as an example. Michael Hutchence was a singer and that was easy to see in his chart. Mercury was calling (no major aspects in sign or orb 5 degrees) and angular. This double prominence reflected the importance of communicating (writing, speaking, singing) somehow and anyhow, at any possible level.

Here you see the natal chart with transits and progressions for the final day. Michael Hutchence committed suicide soon after arguments on telephone and possibly under the influence of medication, drugs or alcohol. He suffered from depression and had divorced in the year before his death. In that situation he had alarming transits and progressions.

In astrology the 8th house is the house of crisis (life and death). Inconjunctions refer to loss. Uranus inconjunct Pluto is the symbol of unbalancing dramatic change or revolution with a loss involved. Trines seem nice, but they often point at the easy way out.
When Michael Hutchence died with an exact trine of progressed Sun (ruler 8th natal house) with Neptune and transit Uranus inconjunct Pluto in 8, he also had midpoint combinations.  I counted a total of 8 indications related to what happened, but here I like to mention the midpoint and aspect combinations:

1. Transit Neptune conjunct the progressed midpoint of Ascendant and Midheaven (AC/MC).

The AC/MC midpoint is the corner stone of the chart. Transit Neptune tends to weaken and confuse. With Neptune you can't really get a grip on things.
AC/MC=Neptune points at the importance of fantasy, ideals and dreams, in the natal chart. It is a gift for an artist or a prophet. But a curse in nasty situations.

2. Transit Neptunus conjunct Ascendant and Mercury
This transit Neptune was crossing the Ascendant and Mercury, too, in that same period before his death.  Mercury is for the mind. This transit confused the mind set.
The combination of Mercury, Ascendant and Neptune gives a tendency to be open for influences from outside and makes it easier to be harmed (see COSI*) or to be disappointed. It doesn't matter how you turn the combination that might lead you to the wrong paths in life. That is exactly what happened.

LINKS

Remember,  if you ever have transit Neptune on Ascendant or Mercury, ask yourself this question: "Is this what I think or feel real or just my wrong concept of reality?" Transits of Neptune are often simply just too negative or too sad. Neptune is the symbol of romance and in those romantic days of the 19th century, Neptune could kill you softly by making a drama of things and drown in tears. An example: http://astropost.blogspot.nl/2008/08/neptune-for-killing-you-softly_08.html

=======================================================================
NOTE
*) Whatever you may think of Neptune over Mercury/AC, no astrologer will ever think of it as 'a bright and good idea'. Transits of Neptune are confusing. When your concept of your situation are wrong, you might make wrong plans, too.

COSI is The Combination of Stellar Influences by Reinhold Ebertin. His take on Mercury/AC with Neptune = being deceived. For Mercury/Neptune-AC he gives 'being harmed' and for Neptune/AC-Mercury: 'wrong paths in life'
========================================================================
PS There is even a more difficult possible combination of midpoints. What about Sun/Moon = Jupiter/Pluto? I'd read this as motivated for success and having a strong need to be a star. But that is for later...

Neptune, believe it or not, aspirin and love

A nasty aching jaw and a hurt knee inspired this blog. The pain was mellowed by aspirin. Does that relate to Neptune? It does, believe it or not.
Fountain of Neptune in Nancy, France
Neptune is about myths and beliefs, fans and followers of idols and ideologies. In a more personal way Neptune is also the symbol of being believed or not and of believing or not. Recent example is the chamber maid in the DSK-case.

Mrs. Diallo has a transit of Neptune conjunct her Progressed Sun and Dimitri Strauss Kahn has Neptune opposition his Saturn (her Progressed Sun is opposition his Saturn, too). They are involved in a media circus around the accusation of rape. Whatever happened will remain a secret (Neptune!) but the damage has been done, to both of them. DSK lost his job and everybody now knows about his sexual preferences and affairs. We all know about the doubts about Mrs. Diallo, who certainly experienced what an afflicted Neptune can do for your imago. The officials don't believe in her no more.

When people do believe (in) you, you can lead a double life (like Josef Fritzl - Sun biquintile Neptune - did, very convincing) or you can be an idol (like Obama: Sun square Neptune or Elvis: Sun trine Neptune). As long as people believe in you or follow you, you are almost 'holy'. Nasty aspects of Neptune by transit or progression make it hard to make new fans. President Obama has an inconjunct of Neptune this (and next) year. He is being demystified and his voters sometimes don't believe in him any more. That is one of the effects of the inconjunction with Neptune. There is more about Neptune...

Believe it or not, just recently, I read that a simple aspirin can help against being home sick or ease the pain of a broken heart. Pain (mental or physical) is pain and there is a drug against it...Imagine! When you (have to) go for a more or less hard turkey end - when breaking up, going to another place for a vacation, emigrating or when you were suddenly cut off from your habits - the antidote is as chemical as your brains chemistry is.
You know that Neptune is also the symbol of chemistry and ...of romance. When you read this ('Falling in love is about your brain chemistry'), you also know why chemistry and romance (idealizing a person) are part of Neptune's vocabulary. And, Neptune is also a matter of belief. So what if you fall in love when there is an influence of Neptune? Would you believe in it?

PS
Neptune is now retrograding in the final degrees of Aquarius (conjunct the Sun of the Aquarians of February 18 and 19) and will move back into Pisces on February 4, 2012.  See the links for the posts about Neptune in Pisces in  history.

Chart, progressions and transits of Dominique Strauss-Kahn

Someone mailed me about the excellent analysis of the Oxford Astrologer*) of the chart of Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the IMF leader who is now in jail after accusations of attempt of raping a chamber maid in a NY hotel. What more can I say? This post adds something about Pholus on his Descendant, the progressed chart and the transits of May 14, 2011 (day of the arrest). On that day there was a difficult combination of transits: transit Neptune, ruler 8th house, inconjunct DSK's Ascendant + transit Saturn quindecile (165d) his important Mars.  Transit Saturn will soon be trine progressed Midheaven and Mars (as from next week till July). What does it mean? In short, that says: double death ends (restrictions) and humiliation. And there is always more in such cases: Mercury trine Neptune in the progressed chart. Mercury-Neptune is the suspect’s aspect combination (see the posts about the Friedman’s and Amanda Knox, see the labe). Mercury-Neptune also doesn’t support trips. There will always be something wrong with the schedule. Even it there are trines (or maybe it is even easier to confuse plans with trines!).

Charts must be seen in the light of someone’s gender, genes, situation, status, condition and culture. Strauss-Kahn risks a 20 year punishment for what he did in the USA. Earlier sexual misbehavior in Europe hasn’t even been reported. It seems that the IMF-man did the wrong thing in the wrong city. And that the tightest major natal aspect in his chart (Mars sextile Uranus, see Astromarkt) proved to be the aspect of acting on impulse, again.

Continue for more about the natal chart, the changes in the progressed chart and the complete list of transits for the day of his arrest, with chart drawings.

Transit Neptune conjunct Ascendant
(like Christina Aguilera)

Welcome - Christina AguileraNeptune crossed the Ascendant of Christina Aguilera when she started a relationship with a movie assistent and left her husband. That is what might happen when Transit Neptune is conjunct your Ascendant, because when Neptune is conjunct the Ascendant, Neptune is opposition the Descendant (the starting point of the house of marriage) and might drift you apart. Neptune conjunct the Ascendant introduces romance, affairs and the risk of addiction and changes your situation. You might be surrounded by frauds, liars, spies and gossip. With transits of Neptune it is very important to walk the right way and not get lost in the mist. Because only when the mist vanishes, you see where you went wrong. Is Neptune ever funny or making a person happy? Perhaps, if you need inspiration for a drama or a poem or if you want to escape from reality and every day dull life: take some Neptune!:) The transits of Neptune are very confusing and sometimes dissolving, however. Christina Aguilera just found out. For the second time in a few months time, someone published 'hot' pictures of her; stolen private pictures. And see what an amount of transits and progressions is accompanying this incident. I won't mention them all here (see bottom line).  I just like to mention that  Progressed Venus conjunct progressed Midheaven tells us that in the course of her life and career (progressions) Venus (the planet of love) is above all of importance for her destiny.

NEPTUNE, NATAL AND TRANSIT
Neptune is rising before and conjunct the Sun of Christina Aguilera (see the chart of Christina Aguilera above). That means that she is first of all interested in art, fantasy, romance, dreams, religion, movies, fiction and ideals: the complete Neptune vocabulary. Now that Neptune is in her first house this part of her personality has 'come out' and with that: her secrets, her pictures, her movies. And they are not common pictures, or else they were not worth that much:).

Astrologer Corn. Gorter said in ' Astrologische Chronologie' that too much sensitivity and a conflict between real life and fantasy is too be expected. That is too bad, but perhaps there is another way to see Neptune here.

ARTIST
Neptune is not just weak. Neptune is strong in sacrifices and voluntary jobs and Neptune is part of the artistic pattern (consisting of Moon, Venus, Neptune, their signs and Midheaven). That is because there is no art without inspiration, fantasy and dreams. That pattern is also visible in Christina Alguilera's chart:

- Neptune is half semisquare Venus and
- Neptune is (wide) biquintile Moon,
- Venus is quindecile Moon.

Venus is the bridge between Moon and Neptune, Venus rules the Taurus Moon and Venus is ' calling' (no major aspects in sign or orb 5 degrees; the conjunction with Uranus is out of sign). Venus is even more 'calling' now that her position is on Midheaven in the progressed chart! Venus is the symbol of beauty, talent, entertainment and style. Venus is also the symbol of preferences, sympathies and love.

In Christina's chart we see, apart from the pattern of talent, a Golden Yod. Moon-Chiron, Neptune, Mercury, and Jupiter-Saturn are connected by quintiles and biquintiles, concentrating on the Taurus Moon, ruler of the 7th house of partnership and opposition Quaoar, symbol of creations and 'new realities'. The Moon is quindecile Venus for a strong focus on what people like. There is a strong creative pattern, and there is also Sun conjunct Neptune, rising just before the Sun. I wrote about Sun-Neptune before (here, and on Astromarkt) and one of the problems of this aspect combination is ' identity unsafe' (who am I, am I who they say I am?). Some actors and idols loose their true self and actually become the person they play in the movie or on stage. Being an idol, the ' double life' or 'double identity' and the conflict between your angel eyes and your true you often pop up with this aspect. There is more about Sun-Neptune (like empathy and idealism); just use the link below,

NEPTUNE-ASCENDANT
Neptune-Ascendant is frequent in the charts of divorced women (not necessarily their ' fault') , the charts of addicts and of those who hide something about their relationship. I know someone with Neptune-Ascendant who kept it a secret that her husband had an affair, just to keep up appearances (Capricorn, yeS!:). That means that you have to make up stories to explain all sort of strange things around you.Anyway, Neptune-Ascendant is also part of the charts of people who work in charity or who do voluntary jobs (and are being used by someone, in a way). And I watched Neptune-Ascendant in the charts of artists, of course. Maybe Neptune is also angular in the charts of sailors, but I don't have examples...;( Let's say that Neptune on the Ascendant brings empathy, fantasy, addiction and/or romance and sometimes arts and that the common factor is imagination. When you feel the pain of a victim, you imagine the pain (it is not yours) and when you help a person you do it because of something that you can't see or feel (and maybe even not smell): ideals. One of the personifications of Neptune is the romantic lover, your 'dream person'.

Her transit Neptune on the Ascendant resonated an affair, with movies (Neptune!) and pictures (Neptune) and later the theft of secrets (Neptune!). It is the perfect description of the Neptune-effect. Secrets ' coming out' with Neptune on the Ascendant...Relationships gone, too...I am not looking forward to my transit Neptune in 2013!

MARRIAGE
But of course, it takes more than one transit to turn your world upside down.  In Aguilera's natal chart there are indications for divorce already. The elevated Venus conjunct Uranus (out of sign), for example…that is the aspect of sense of rhythm and pleasure in adventures. For women it is one of the 4 aspects that ‘help’ you on your way to divorce. Uranus is exactly square Ascendant, for upheavel and flashlight relationships. She also has Jupiter in the 7th house of marriage (and Jupiter is the symbol of more…). And of course, she is rich and famous, a beauty and in the company of many persons like her. It takes a very strong love and marriage to stick together when Neptune comes to drift you apart. And there was no strong marriage. The Sun signs didn't match, her Mars square his and Venus offered no compensation.

Chart of the relationship between Christina and Jordan Bratman (positions = green transits):
They share a Sun-Neptune aspect. Quote:

Sun and Neptune shared in aspect gives you shared ideals, dreams and faith or even a shared idol! But with hard aspects you might share the same disillusions as well or this relationship is disillusive. Cooperating could work out best in an asylum or in a non-profit organization where they can help others, and each other.
Another possible combination is between enemies and with Sun in hard aspect with Neptune shared. Ideology stand between you as was the case with the murderer of director Theo van Gogh who shared Sun square Neptune.

Mind if I add here: or an affair stands between you and that might happen with transit Neptune conjunct Ascendant?
