Jean-Claude Juncker's Saturn and Chiron

Usually, uneasy transits and progressions with Saturn mark the end of a period, with saying goodbye and farewell. Jean-Claude Juncker however, chooses to start in a top level function in the European Union, in spite of criticism that is supposed to happen in Saturn times. Here is his chart (day of birth, transits and progressions). There is no hour of birth, but it is easy to see the importance of Saturn rising before the Sun on December 9, 1954 in Redange (Lux).

Look at his chart: transit Saturn is now square progressed Sun. As Juncker is about 60 years old, he faces his second Saturn return (time to face your age, memento mori). Progressed Mars is inconjunct natal Saturn. Transit Uranus is inconjunct natal Saturn (and trine natal Sun). He could still withdraw, but nobody expects him too. He has ambitions...But given the composition of transits and progressions, he is having hard times now. The chart mirrors more endings than beginnings. How does it feel to start this way? Saturn is the symbol of management and ambition. Saturn is important in his natal chart. If Jean-Claude Juncker was born before 18 hours (6 p.m.) Saturn rises before a ‘calling’ Sun (the Sun in a starring role). The Sun is semi sextile Saturn all day. It is the signature of a person ‘in charge’, a leader with ambition, a manager who draws attention and could tend to be an autocrat. 

There are more people born on December 9, 1954. One of them is a popular Dutch comedian who was given an estimate 10-15 years left in 2010 when he was diagnosed with leukemia. The other one is a Dutch football manager. Managing to be in charge is one of the things that Sun-Saturn does. Apparently, it doesn't have to be in politics, though Phil Bryant (Republican Governor) is definitely a politician, like Juncker, who is also a conservative.

Jean-Claude Juncker is very much in favor of more Europe and doesn’t really seem to care about democracy. His answer to a No in a referendum:

If it's a Yes, we will say 'on we go', and if it's a No we will say 'we continue'. If it's a Yes, we will say 'on we go', and if it's a No we will say 'we continue'.

Anyway, Mr Juncker has the full support of Angela Merkel and most of the members. David Cameron*) seems to be alone in his criticism. This won’t stop Europe, …yet. Maybe it will keep Britain out of the Euro forever? There is more coming up for Europe. 

There has been tension before (Uranus-Pluto square in 2012-2013) and it is a bit easier now. But in 2015 transit Neptune conjunct progressed Sun will be an undermining aspect. In 2018, when the Union is 60 years old (like Juncker now), Saturn will be conjunct the natal Sun of January 1958. That may be an important moment in history. With progressed Sun then inconjunct Uranus there will be an overdose of tension.  

These kind of ‘democratic’ appointments and decissions defenitely won’t help to make the European Union more popular, meanwhile...

Happy Pharrell Williams' transit Saturn inconjunct Saturn

Pharrell Williams' hit 'Happy' scored an international record high and that is so amazing that it made him cry, yesterday, when Oprah Winfrey (use the link) interviewed him. Earlier, in March 2013, there was the shared success with Blurred Lines (see YouTube) and now he made it on his own.

You probably know that I am convinced that there is more value in transits and progressions when they connect those planets that make a natal aspect (I named that: the 'resonance' effect). Well, the release of 'Happy' was on November 21, 2013.

• That was on a day with Mars sextile Jupiter. 
• In his natal chart Mars is conjunct Jupiter 
• Transit Jupiter was sesquisquare his progressed Mars (and Mercury and Venus, too). 

This triple Mars-Jupiter 'event' (meaning successful action) corresponded with the success of 'Happy' more than the inconjunct of transit Saturn with natal Saturn did (of course). That reminded me of a mail that I got from a lottery winner who wasn't happy with her astrologer, who failed to notice the Jupiter-progressed Moon notice and only looked at her Saturn square Saturn to predict her a sad year instead of the lucky win. Time (very Saturn word) to have a look at the Saturn cycle.

SATURN CYCLE
The Saturn-cycle can never have a 'resonance effect'. Maybe that is why the Saturn-cycle doesn't seem to be as important for the development of an individual as transits and progressions. Another reason is, that we all go through those same cycles and when I say WE, I mean WE ALL. At a certain age we grow up, recognize our mistakes, are 'responsible', age and deal with the bad sides of aging. That is what transits of Saturn do when they hit Saturn. The conjunctions are especially important (the Saturn Returns) in our lives. They come when we realize that we aren't 'young' and/or 'getting old'. GRANDPARENTS AND SATURN
Time goes bye and flies like an arrow, and even harder when it is 'memento mori time'. I have no idea in what way Transit Saturn inconjunct Saturn (memento mori) popped up in the life of Pharrell. I hear him speak of his grandmother (who pushed him into the music business) and perhaps it is a sad moment when you know that she missed your hit. (Remember that when Obama was chosen, his grandmother had died just before his presidency was a fact and that transit Saturn was confusing if you would relate it to winning or losing instead of a family matter).

On the outside we only see his extreme success, but the Saturn inconjunct could certainly relate to temporary loss of balance because of a matter of position, career and status. Here is the chart of his day of birth with transits and progressions for the day that Happy was released.

Pharrell Williams' hour of birth is unknown, so that Midheaven (the position in society, the career), the degree of the Moon, the Ascendant and Sun/Moon midpoint can't be taken into consideration. We just don't know where they are or where. I know that anything 'disproportional' is related to the inconjunct and that the quincunx always includes 'having to give up on something'. But if we focus on Saturn, we miss the rest. Even without the time of birth, there are a lot of keys to being 'happy':

- Progressed Sun inconjunct Galactic Center could be read like a disproportional STARRY attention (but only if you know:);
- Progressed Sun is biquintile progressed Uranus and that is for a creative change in life and lifestyle;
- Progressed Mars conjunct natal Pholus expresses the turning point in what he does, actually;
- Progressed Venus sesquisquare progressed Uranus; he married in October 2013 with the mother of his 5 year old (maybe Uranus is related to his 7th house);
- Progressed Sun was hit by transit Jupiter (and this will happen again); that is a key to being happy!
- Transit Jupiter/Uranus midpoint hit his natal Sun and Venus recently (and this will also happen again). It is for positive change.
- Transit Pluto sesquisquare Sun refers to stressful change and challenges. There is a lot of pressure when you suddenly became so famous!
-On the day of release transit Jupiter was sextile Progressed Mercury, semi square progressed Venus and sesquisquare progressed Mars (with P Venus square P Mars coming up).

The transits with the progressed chart outnumber those with the natal chart. Maybe that means that he should enjoy this period as much as he can and be HAPPY!

PS If he was born in the late morning, his Taurus Moon semi sextile Venus would also be 157.5 degrees from Neptune (sesquisquare and half semi square), part of the pattern of artistic talent.

SUN INCONJUNCT SATURN SYNASTRY

Sun inconjunct Saturn is one of the hardest aspects to deal with. It always takes more than just one aspect and charts should always be seen as a whole, related to circumstances, gender, genes and history or culture, but still I find it a difficult aspect.


In the natal chart the Sun inconjunct Saturn is often mirroring a defect, an inability or 'bad luck'.  Use the label inconjunct Saturn to find examples of that.
Transits of Saturn inconjunct Sun and progressions of the Sun inconjunct Saturn sort of makes way to criticism and places you in the position of the 'lame duck'.

A tragic example of Sun inconjunct Saturn between two persons, is the synastry of George Zimmerman and Trayvon Martin.

ZIMMERMAN-MARTIN SYNASTRY
The Sun of George Zimmerman (October 5, 1983: it is his Saturn return now) is inconjunct the natal Saturn of Trayvon Martin (February 5, 1995). George Zimmerman shot Trayvon Martin and ended his life. Not all encounters of Sun-Saturn quincunxes end in such a drama, of course.  If Zimmerman hadn't carried a gun, it hadn't happened at all. The symbol of a gun is Mars.

MARS' ROLE
Mars is the symbol of fire, weapons and injuries.
On February 26, 2012 transit Mars was inconjunct the natal Sun of Trayvon Martin.
On February 26, 2012 the progressed Sun of Trayvon Martin was opposition the natal Mars of George Zimmerman.
It is as if there was a conspiracy of the stars to bring those men close together with a weapon at reach. Even without hours of birth and more transits and progressions to consider, it is obvious that Mars (aggression, weapons, injuries) was an issue between the men at that time and moment.

Saturn conjunct Saturn: sorry, it's memento mori

Saturn returns remind you of your age and responsibilities. Everybody 'ages' at about age 30 and at about age 60 and 90 when Transit Saturn hits your natal Saturn. But what happens when your Progressed Saturn is retrograding and gets back to the natal starting point (a progressed Saturn return)? Progressed Saturn returns are rare and are rarely discussed. I wrote about it a few months ago, when I approached my progressed Saturn return (see that post: http://astropost.blogspot.nl/2011/01/progressed-saturn-return-p-saturn.html ). It is Saturn time for me now! And I know it. In my situation it is obvious: it is about the responsibility of organizing care and taking care of my mother.

In the building where she lives is an institution for the elderly, too. Yesterday I was in the elevator with an old shrieking lady who apparently didn't make it to the toilet and who didn't know where she was or went until I asked her: 'Where do you live' and she said: 'The third floor'.  It is depressing (and I really wonder how the people who work there are able to deal with the astonishing picture of what might happen to all of us one day). I hope that I die before I get THAT old or that it will get that bad for my mother. One generation...There is so little time left. That is the pressure (or say: the kick in the ass) that is being reflected by transits of Saturn. It litteraly makes me feel sick.

Saturn conjunct Saturn is a memento mori, reminding you not to waste time. 

Saturn is for depressing things and the Moon is for the mood. Saturn is for parents or parenthood and the Moon is for care.

I am happy to see Venus on my IC today (that is when I'll have my hair done and I intend to buy a new perfume - maybe Sun, Moon and Stars:), starting a few days off. But I won't be off for long. Saturn on Saturn is double duties! Or at least: it feels that way. Now I wonder: am I wasting time?

Progressed Saturn is exactly conjunct my natal Saturn today, while progressed Moon is square my natal Moon. You know about my Moon trine Saturn (feelings of responsibility and duty) and my family's Moon-Saturn (see the Moon-Saturn post)? Perhaps that is why these progressions join to hit me harder than other persons' progressed Saturns do?

BTW When transit Saturn is back to square my Mars, transit Saturn will be on my mother's Midheaven (after begin square her Sun, again). That makes me think that there is more to come... and more to be done.

Progressed Saturn return (P Saturn conjunct Saturn)

January is 'Progressed chart month' on Astropost. This post is about the progressed Saturn return.

Saturn's returns (transit Saturn conjunct natal Saturn) have been studied a lot. You find a post about the return of Saturn (at about age 30 and 60) here...But there is another way to get a Saturn return and that is in the progressed chart. A progressed Saturn return occurs when Saturn is going direct after retrograding or retrograding after going direct in the days after birth. I will have a progressed Saturn return in the summer of 2012 and Prince Charles will have P Saturn conjunct Saturn in 2013. It is a pretty rare 'return', but I found two examples of the past.

1. A hard experience on a mountain top

 I know that Wilco van Rooijen (a climber) had progressed Saturn conjunct natal Saturn when he had a serious accident, while the progressed sunsign was changing. He survived. ( In a later incident, he was rescued with transit Jupiter conjunct Sun! Eleven persons died...). See the post...

2. An illegitimate child (of a royal mistress)

The mother of Delphine and mistress of King Albert of Belgium who had an 18 year affair with the king, was born on August 28, 1941. In 1968 her progressed sunsign changed. And there was a progressed Saturn return. In that year baby Delphine was born. Saturn is important in the synastry of Delphine and her father. There is a lot of distance...See the post..

Progressed returns seem to 'double' the meaning of the planet involved*), so perhaps the Saturn conjunct Saturn doubles responsibilities, obligations, restrictions and ambition? I noticed a I am not planning a baby (LOL) and I can't climb mountains, so I am curious what Saturn's progressed return has in mind for me, though I already have some idea of the setting. 

A 'mind your step' seems to be an appropiate warning with Saturn returns in general. I managed to wretch my ankle at the exact moment of Transit Saturn conjunct Saturn (and that was really all!). 

In modern times, Saturn's return is being regarded as a difficult moment in life. But:  I found some reasons to celebrate Saturn return. For example, when I wretched my ankle it was when I was walking on a hill top and Saturn didn't really put me down, but climbing was twice as hard. I prefere NOT to climb hill tops, so after that I 'had to' do what I like more!:)

However, shouldn't Venus or Jupiter progressed returns be nicer?

Watch your step with Saturn return

In an earlier post I told you about my Saturn return and the final come back on August 7, last weekend. What happened? I was to spend a weekend walking in the hills, but as I wretched my ankle a week earlier I had to limit myself. That is all, really! Some Saturn returns are not that bad at all. Perhaps Saturn's transits teach you to respect your age and be more careful, by means of painfull hints like twisted ankles, about priorities and time running (instead of me:) or time running out...In fact, that is what happens on a solar return day, too. When it is our birthday, we sigh about getting older, too!

Saturn's return can be celebreated like a birthday (really! see that post). It is a longer  period than a year,  a 28-30 year period. The first Saturn return you become an adult and the second time you get old.  If you are lucky, you will celebrate the 3rd Saturn return and than you will be overaged, if not dead, on your way to be classic. Saturn return time is time to count your blessings...even on one foot. And time to consider your next steps...

Celebrating Saturn return

It was my second Saturn return, a sort of a second birthday, yesterday, at 17:30 MET. With the solar return we use to celebrate our birthday, every year. When Saturn returns to his position at birth we usually don't eat cake or get presents and nobody is congratulating us. Maybe that is because we consider Saturn to be the symbol of old age, maturity, responsibility and restrictions. Still, it is Christmas time and New Years' day in Capricorn time and Saturn is supposed to dispose of Capricorn. The Roman Saturnalia were big parties in honour of Saturn!

So I thought that it is time to have another look at my Saturn return and see the good side of getting older, ending a period of about 30 years and knowing that you are entering another lifetime: old age:). What is the benefit of it?

FIRST
With my first Saturn return I certainly understood the limitations and reality of life, but I can't blame Saturn for the fact that it was depressing sometimes. There were progressions and transits with Neptune at that time. Saturn was the stabilizing factor, perhaps. 'There ARE responsibilities and duties and there ARE limitations, this is real life!' That was perhaps the message of the Saturn return in Neptunic times. I know of a person who litteraly met the man with the axe during the first Saturn return, so it could be worse:)

SECOND
Saturn's return might tell me now that it is far too late to ...you name it. Saturn's return comes with considerations about the final years before stepping back and starting to be without a job and without perspectives (well, unless you are a Chinese politician, an English queen or a wise old witch). It is over, dear! You entered the so called 55+ zone and you are about to be launched to the next room. Don't look now, because it is rather depressing. It is the FINAL room.

PRO's
Oh dear, I forgot to see the positive side of Saturn's return. Here it is:
Saturn's return makes you aware of time and age. Time to consolidate, count your blessings and face reality. Saturn is helping you through a period of change. At age 30 you were not young and funny any more, but mature and facing a career to be made or the obligations of parenthood. At age 60, however, you are not even mature any more. You are a senior and facing the obligation to stop your career, be wise and have everything under control (freezer filled, house waterproof, money in the bank, you might need it later). Time to stop, look around and see what needs to be done next. A moment of considerations.

The pleasant side of it is that you might conclude that everything is in order and (sigh...) you did your very best to come to this age, the second Saturn return. Maybe you have grandchildren by now and you might enjoy it. Maybe you look forward to stop working and have more time for yourself. Maybe you can be congratulated with this special moment. You are old now, you are your own parent and you have total control. Wow! I go out and I will buy a piece of cake! The good thing about celebrating Saturn's return this way is that Saturn will return again on March 18 and August 7 2010! Two more sweet moment to look forward to:)...And it is in line with history: see how the Romans celebrated the Saturnalia with big parties! Here is the link...
