Sun signs in China

In China Scorpio (and Virgo) people find it hard to get a job. Employers prefer Capricorns, or those born under Libra or Pisces. Is that true? It is a crazy story! Can anybody please tell those bosses that people are not their sun sign and that all signs have necessary qualities? French coach Domenech tried to win with a team without Scorpio's and he failed (but maybe not because of that:). It is a pity that China has no free internet (recently Turkey followed into China's footsteps). And that there are so few of them who speak English. Or else they could join the international astrologer's community and see that there is no reason to force Scorpio's to start their own business and become 'the competition'! Think of that, Chinese employers! (and no, I am not a Scorpio, but I hate it when astrology is being abused to blame or hurt 1/12th of the population). It is a cheap alternative for a psychological test and just another way of making up your mind by using an oracle. The nasty thing is bias and prejudice. Those kinds of qualifications are rather silly, but I am afraid that that is the way that astrology is being used by the millions. And not just in China. Most of us started with sun sign astrology and not with the picture of a chart. And isn't it easy to put a sticker on a person and disqualify or not in a second? It is as childish as avoiding red heads or fat people.

Now that I said this I must admit that shortly after problems with a Gemini I had just a second of second thoughts when I met another one! Just one second! I am only human, sorry! I want to put disclaimers at the end of articles about sun signs, telling people that a person is not a sun sign. Hope that it helps, but I have my doubts! It might be too late for Chinese Scorpio's!

Would you avoid to employ a Scorpio? Do you judge people by their sun sign? Just for one second? Do the poll and choose what sign you wouldn't give a job if you were the manager! Or select: I wouldn't select by sign!

Happy New Year!

It is astrological New Year this Sunday (UT 23:20:50). In most of the time zones it will be March 21 when the Sun leaves the astrological sign of Pisces. Then the Sun will be in the first degree of Aries, the first sign of the astrological zodiac and right above the equator, on his way up to the tropic of Cancer (midsummer). Springtime!

We long for warmth and blooming flowers and we are still in the middle of global unrest and tension. The chart is mirroring that. The chart of springtime has the Sun between Mars and Uranus, with the Sun conjunct Uranus. The combination of Sun, Mars and Uranus is the combination of the short fuse, incidents and techniques (or unconventional struggle) at work. We are in an explosive situation in many ways. There is military action in Libya, there is the problem with the nuclear plants in Japan...Here are the charts of springtime in Tokyo and Tripoli and a chart related to the flowers and the bees: the Keukenhof chart. As to be expected, the last one is the most pleasant one.

TOKYO
When the astrological new year starts and people are on their way to the office on Monday, the midpoint of Ascendant and Midheaven for Tokyo is exactly semi square Uranus at Zero Aries, resonating the hectic and nervous situation.
Spring in Tokyo
KEUKENHOF

There is a lot to do in the world, but it is springtime, too. And with Mars rising before the Sun I expect temperatures to rise soon (isn't Mars the 'hot' planet?:) One of my country's big attractions is Keukenhof, often visited by tourist from Japan, who now remain in their troubled country. Here is the chart of this attraction, with Jupiter rising before the Sun (indication of the international orientation), conjunct Venus and opposition Pluto on the axis AC/DC...there is a lot of many to earn and a lot of success was promissed from the start. The tightest aspect is Moon trine Venus, for sense of style and beauty. Isn't that the kind of springtime chart we would like to see now?

Keukenhof, start
APRIL 2: MARS CONJUNCT URANUS
On April 2, 2011 there will be a conjunction of Mars and Uranus in the first degrees of Aries. For those born on the 21st, 22nd or 23th of December, March, June or September that is an alert. The Japanese Emperor Akihito (see his chart) was born with the Sun in the first degree of Capricorn and the earthquake was with transit Uranus square his Sun and more difficult transits and progressions.

It takes more than just this transit, but still it is a warning not to drive too fast, for example. The conjunction of Mars and Uranus might be a 'perfect' moment for surgery, for acting on impulse, incidents and accidents. It is the combination of a shock or surprise (something that makes you nervous or 'wakes you up') and action, getting hurt or starting something new, like your response to the alarm in the fresh new morning. Astrology has a large vocabulary, but Mars-Uranus is supposed to accelerate whatever you do...It is a matter of circumstances, genes, gender and situation (+ the rule of 3) in what way your chart will resonate the present positions of Mars and Uranus. However, the orientational Mars is the symbol of sports, soldiers and activists or activism. It might be a 'hot' spring in many ways. April 2 is a chance for astrology to see if Mars conjunct Uranus has a more than individual effect.
Spring in Tripoli
In fact, it already is 'hot', because allied forces are attacking the army of Kadafi.
The Spring Chart for Libya, where springtime starts at 2:20:50 a.m. has three prominent positions: Sun and Uranus opposition Midheaven and Pholus on the Ascendant. The angular Sun, Uranus and Pholus together show a crucial flashing change and a turning point on the horizon. Add this to the orientational Mars and you may notice that the most prominent positions in this chart are for Sun,Mars, Uranus and Pholus: turning point (Pholus) and an unconventional (Uranus) war (Mars) going on (techniques and a struggle, like in Japan). Let us hope that Sun conjunct Uranus will free the people (represented by the IC).

The Ascendant of the chart of spring in Libya is opposition the Sun of Kadafi. His desperate attempt to keep his position is reflected by the transit Pluto quindecile progressed Sun. The quindecile is the aspect of obsession and fanatism (the strong focus) and Pluto is the symbol of power, force, money, influence and strategy. Also transit Nessus is opposition his progressed Sun (see http://astropost.blogspot.com/2011/02/nessus-now-opposition-progressed-sun.html). Quote:

(about Nessus:Nessus is a quite recent object in the astrological chart. The myth of Nessus is that of a centaur who assaulted the wife of Hercules. Hercules shot him, but when he was dying Nessus gave his shirt (and blood) to Hercules'wife saying that if she gave it to Heracles, he would never be untrue to her. He wouldn't, because he died.)
Of course there is more that is reflecting problems, like  transit Pluto quindecile progressed Sun (obsessed survival? danger), for example and progressed Mercury conjunct natal Saturn (that is a symbol of departure of final decission/separation and of hard decissions, too). Unfortunately the hour of birth is unknown and that is limiting the observations.
But let us get back to Nessus.

Quadhafi became Libia's leader on January 15, 1970.That was with transit Jupiter exactly square his natal Pluto (a sign of success) and... opposition Nessus. There he is again: Nessus. Just a quick observation...

About war and Mars rising before the Sun, see Astropost, 'Mars at War'

Springtime starts with the first degree of Aries. More about Aries here...

Those born with Mars rising before the Sun happen to be more assertive, aggressive, active and driven than others are. Women with this position are more likely to 'cheat' than other women will, because of their orientation. At least, my examples show that Mars rising before the Sun is frequent in their charts. See the post about cheating..here..

We should NOT rename the sunsigns...

We should NOT rename the sunsigns. That is the results of the poll on Astropost. Thirty two persons voted and only 3 of them agreed to ' We should rename the signs'. 45% asked why? and another 45% said: NEVER! It is not a crowd, but I might conclude that there is no warm and supporting majority when it comes to renaming the sunsigns.
Why should we? Perhaps because astronomers keep telling the world that 'their' constellations are not the same as the astrological signs? Perhaps because the names of the sunsigns are confusing? *) Perhaps because the recent sunsign and Ophiocus-hype caused astrologers to explain themselves and the names of the sunsigns?
Why should we NOT change the names of the sunsigns? Maybe because we have a tropic of Cancer and a tropic of Capricorn on earth in geography? Maybe because we are used to the names? Maybe because it were astrologers-astronomers who gave the signs their names?

Well, the hype has gone and the signs are still were they are, in astronomy and in astrology. Time for the next poll. Thanks for your input!

*) Wiki about the tropic of cancer

The imaginary line is called the Tropic of Cancer because when it was named, the Sun was in the direction of the constellation Cancer (Latin for crab) at the June solstice. However, this is no longer true due to the precession of the equinoxes. According to International Astronomical Union boundaries, the Sun now is in Taurus at the June solstice. According tosidereal astrology, which divides the zodiac into 12 equal parts, the Sun is in Gemini at that time. The word "tropic" itself comes from the Greek τροπή (tropi), meaning turn, referring to the fact that the Sun appears to "turn back" at the solstices.
The June solstice has still the astrological Sun in Cancer, however. Now we have three signs: Taurus (Astronomy), Gemini (Sidereal) and Cancer (Tropical). And the Sun is still high at June 21, the longest day of sunlight in the Northern hemisphere, just like when the names of the signs were given...
Confusing enough?:) If not, use the label 'zodiac' for more about the recent hype.

Picture this...sun signs and Ophiucus

Yesterday morning, shortly after 11, I opened my StarWalk App (great tool!) on my Iphone and watched the South-Western part of the sky, just for fun. It happened to be the moment that Ophiuchus (Slang/Slangendrager in this picture) was right opposite me, just above Libra (Weegschaal) with Venus on the edge of both and Saturn just above the horizon. Even Pluto is part of the picture. Saturn and Pluto are on either side of Venus. Of course, all that was invisible for the eye. It was daylight and even if it were night: there were clouds. If I hadn't had StarWalks, I would have been able to guess the positions of Venus, Saturn and Pluto when I looked direction South-West, but I would have been completely wrong about the constellations if I used the chart of that moment:
See?

This morning the Sun had not risen yet, when I tried my StarWalk App again:
The Sun (Zon) and Mars are close and just as close is 'Steenbok' (Capricorn for you). Sun in the constellation Capricorn, not in Aquarius today. Mercury has just risen.

Pictures say more than words do. They led me to the next post. And to a lot of questions about the length of signs, Ascendants and Midheavens and Sunsigns. Personally, I'd like to see the picture of my StarWalk correspond with the picture of the chart. That is because I like to think that astrology started with watching the picture of the sky, with fantasies about the names of constellations and with thinking of what the picture of the sky meant for us, on earth.

A few days back I tried 'public transportation' again and of course I ended in the wrong corridor, just like an English speaking man who said: 'I am confused! I want to get out!' 'But', I said, 'How did you get in without a ticket? You need a ticket to get out'. 'Does it matter?' he said.' Now that I am in, I want to get out'. And he followed me right through the doors, pushing them away by force and freed himself. It is a bit like I feel today.

The picture of the sky is beautiful. How I would like it to be the picture of today's chart...But even sidereal astrology doesn't produce the right picture (because the signs have different sizes!). BTW It's that we know that someone needed to name this constellation 'Capricorn' but I don't see a goat at all, without those lines. The history of naming the constellations is a mystery in itself. And that brings me to the next post...

Alan Leo, Uranus-Neptune and the sun sign hoax

This post is about Alan Leo's natal chart and the transits on the day of the sunsign ' hoax' with a link to Alan Leo's 19th Century explanation of the difference between constellations and the astrological zodiac.

TRANSITS
On January 11, 2011 an astronomer managed to cause upheavel about the fact that the constellations are not in line with the astrological sunsigns, with amazing timing!  You see, the transits of January 11, 2011 and what happened, were exactly in line with the natal chart of one of the first modern - and popular - astrologers, Alan Leo. Here are the positions:
Transit Mercury was square transit Uranus on that day (breaking news, flash communication)
These two (Mercury and Uranus) were in tight aspect with the chart of Alan Leo, in particular with the Saturn-Ascendant conjunction of his chart. Mercury was trine and Uranus inconjunct that conjunction! Also Neptune was opposition the Ascendant!
URANUS-NEPTUNE = HYPE
Mercury-Uranus with Neptune... Some timing! How did that astronomer know? Uranus-Neptune is about hypes (see for example this post), Mercury-Uranus is often related to new ideas (news) and Mercury-Neptune is about misconceptions. Uranus is the planet of astrology. Here we are...For more examples, see the labels...they lead you to the story of Bobby Browns' so called death, when he had transit Uranus conjunct progressed Sun and trine Neptune.

ALAN LEO's EXPLANATION OF THE ZODIACS
Alan Leo wrote about the 'Real Zodiac'. Here is the link..to Lovestars.com.. He wrote this in the 19th century and explained the how's and why's and that in 480 the astrological zodiac was in line with the astronomical zodiac... and still: astronomers pretend as if astrologers don't or didn't know

THE CHART AND TRANSITS
Mercury was square Uranus on January 11, 2011 and these two were trine and inconjunct the natal Saturn and Ascendant of Alan Leo. Also transit Neptune was opposition his Ascendant. Mercury-Uranus with Neptune…Doesn’t that sound like bad press (gossip: Neptune) about technological concepts (Mercury-Uranus)? Had Alan Leo lived, he would have been upset!
