When I studied the progressed chart of the Fukushima disaster, I noticed how speedy Mercury was in those days. See the chart, and you know what I mean. There was an applying Mercury-Pluto square (nearly 5d orb) that perfected almost 2,5 days = 2,5 years after March 11, 2013. That is now, now that they communicated (Mercury) about a problem (Pluto) and danger (Pluto), that was 'born' on March 11, 2011.
I will have a special eye for applying aspects from now on to see if they have more impact later, than separating aspects have.
Here is the chart with transits and progressions.
The Astro ID of the chart is:
- Sun in Pisces in 8th house is 'calling' (separating quintile with Pluto)
- Mars in Pisces in 8th house is 'calling' and rising before the Sun
- Neptune ruler 8 + ruler Sun and Mars is 'calling'
Sun/Neptune=Mars (Mars between Sun and Neptune)
The important Sun, Mars and Neptune sort of scream about a day when the god of the seas was at war, a day for a disaster. But the chart doesn't scream 'disaster'.
I posted about the mediocre charts of main disasters before (http://astropost.blogspot.nl/2011/02/mediocre-chart-positions-of.html ) and commented lated that there was a Pholus/Quaoar/Varuna midpoint combination in the charts of the Laki*) and Krakatau disaster. There is no such combination in the Fukushima chart, but there is a different and more complicated 'link'. There are minor and major aspects between Pholus, Quaoar and Varanu, created by Sun, Saturn and Pluto:
- In the Fukushima chart there is an inconjunct aspect of Quaoar (22d52 Sagittarius) and Varuna (21d10 Cancer), while Pholus is at 17d54 Sagittarius.
- Saturn is biquintile Quaoar and 157.5 d MC.
- Midpoint Quaoar/Varuna is square Pluto and Pluto is quintile Sun.
- The Sun is square Pholus/Quaoar and trine Varuna.
(Nessus and Sedna are also involved in this picture.)
MORE ASPECTS
An event chart requires narrow orbs, especially the orbs with MC and Ascendant. This is the chart of a special moment in time and place that had it's consequences. The minor aspects and the 'unusual' guys seem to make a difference in this chart.
The Moon is in the very first minutes of Gemini. There is an applying sesquisquare with Saturn, and that is a nasty aspect to look forward to, perfecting within a few hours on that day and within a few months in the progressed chart.
There is also a trine with Pallas, even closer.
Saturn is biquintile Quaoar. This mirrors the creation of a finale. Saturn is 157.5 d MC and that is a sesquisquare + half semi square.
The strongest aspect is that of Quaoar sesquisquare Midheaven.
In total the MC gives the tightest and strongest message.
Midheaven is trine Pluto, sesquisquare Quaoar and Juno, quintile Varuna, 75d Nessus, quintile Ceres, novile Lillith, half semi square Moon and there is the mentioned 157.5 d aspect with Saturn. The IC is quindecile Eris.
If you'd only consider the major aspect of MC trine Pluto you'd only notice an intense, challenging and dangerous moment THERE, causing stress and pressure. Such a moment happens every day, everywhere. Here is was a moment for an earth quake, relieving stress and pressure. It takes more information to qualify the event. That shows that one single aspect doesn't tell the story...
BIRTHS IN DISASTER TIME
The aspects of charts are valid for more hours and minutes, some even for a major part of the day. Charts should be read in their context. When you were born with the above chart, you are probably someone who knows how to be in the center of attention, who can be very productive and/or very lazy (depending on what you do) and who knows how to deal with challenges and danger (simply by choosing an easy way out). It doesn't mean that you are 'a disaster':).
*) The Laki disaster 1783 chart also has Mars rising before the Sun.

Individual charts, groups and fate
A year and one month ago there were explosions in Oslo and a killer with an automatic gun shot and killed dozens on an island nearby. What did the charts of the people involved have to do with it? In this blog I want to share my thoughts about the role of the individual chart in times of group disaster (or glory). And I show you a strange interaction between the charts of the killer and the victims (even though he didn't even know them personally).
CHARTS HELP?
When disasters kill and injure many persons at the same time and place, astrologers are asked about the value of a chart. Some astrologers seek the tragic group destiny in the individual's chart. Others have difficult theories about groups of persons brought together to pay for an invisible guilt or fault in their past lives (I consider that an awful and unproven accusation, blaming victims). Fact is, that in a mass event there can't be a joint transit or progression. That is because it doesn't matter who you are.I think that charts of individuals are as helpful as characters would be in the given situation. Charts of individuals are sometimes insignificant. Charts of individuals only matter if there is a choice and a chance.
When you had no chance at all, like on that Norwegian island in a group assembled on the main square, or in an earthquake or tsunami, it doesn't help if you had a nice chart or only difficult aspects. That is because it doesn't matter if you are polite, or ambitious, or a dreamer or a fighter. Individuals are subject to the charts of their leaders (especially in a hierarchic situation or strict authority). Individuals are subject to the chart of their nation or specific place (when it is about war or natural disasters). Just as we all depend on the earth, the safety of the place where we live and (as a kid) of our parents.
The names and birth data of 4 of the Norwegian victims have been published in July. Three of the victims died in Oslo because of the explosions. One, the youngest, was killed on the island. They didn't know the murderer (Anders Breivik). They couldn't expect this to happen and they did nothing wrong to cause it. Their charts didn't help them. And even though the three victims in Oslo didn't know the person who was responsible for their violent death, and the fourth only saw him shooting, there is a connection between their charts and the chart of Breivik and it is in the movable signs. Breivik's progressed Mars was square transit Pholus (a turning point in aggressoin/a battle) in the degrees between 14 and 15 of the movable signs. His natal Pholus was in the 22nd degree of movable signs. His Neptune was in the 20st of movable signs. The Venus of the three victims in Oslo was:
- in the 20th of Virgo (square the Neptune of Breivik),
- zero Taurus (semi square the Mars of Breivik and square transit Pholus),
- 21.2 Virgo (square transit Mars and opposition the Pholus of Breivik).
- The youngest victim, killed on the island, had Venus in the 14th of Gemini (opposition transit Pholus and square the Mars of Breivik).
I don't know why it is Venus. I know that transit Pholus square the progressed Mars of Breivik is reflecting the shooting and the violence. Mars-Pholus is in aspect with the Venus of three of the victims. One of them had a Venus-Neptune synastry with Breivik and no Mars-Pholus link, but of course: the Ascendant or MC could be involved. It could just be coincidence and perhaps there is more. I stop here.
The data: 31 July 1954, 21 March 1950, 31 July 1978 and 7 July 1988.
CONCLUSION
My conclusion is that:
. the charts of people in group disasters are subject to the circumstances (disaster comes from 'des astres' = from the stars and that is outside our competence and reach)
. if characters don't matter, charts don't either
. the charts of victims only help when there is a chance and a choice
. charts of victims can work against the chances of survival in times of war and disaster
. there might be a connection between the chart of the anonymous victim and a group killer's chart, even if they didn't know each other.
But it doesn't help anyone survive if they know this (just like it doesn't help them to find the reason afterwards)...so any study would just be 'for the records'. To me it is a confirmation of what I think: that you can't read charts without knowing the personal, environmental, social and political situation and circumstances. They matter. And ofen, they matter more. Like in a group disaster.

That is because it doesn't matter if you are polite, or ambitious, or a dreamer or a fighter. Individuals are subject to the chart of their nation or specific place (when it is about war or natural disasters). Just as we all depend on the earth, the safety of the place where we live and (as a kid) of our parents.
In given circumstances, in a group, when there is a chance and a choice to make, there is a chance for the person's chart. Else, it is 'des astres'...There is no individual 'crime and punishment' or 'what comes around goes around' when it is about group events or the disasters in Japan or Somalia.
NUANCES
When there is a chance for self rescue or when you are in the circumstances that enable you to survive, you will. The contrary is also true: the chart can be in your disadvantage. In times of war or disaster difficult transits and progressions make it harder to survive. Do you know 'I shouldn't be alive'? It is about people who almost died, but survived, often because of a strong will. In certain conditions, it is over when you give up. But there are, unfortunately, also situations that offer no chance at all.
Just consider this....Transits, progressions and natal charts of individuals in times of war and danger might make a difference, at least for a while, and perhaps that is enough sometimes. But if you are a baby born in Somalia today the smallest nasty transit or progression might be enough to kill you. Those born with the same aspects but in wealth might only catch a cold. Circumstances, situations, genes, gender...they matter. When they are stronger than the will and character of one person, what can he/she do?
NORWAY
Nevertheless I started to study the data of the victims in Norway. Then I found a strange correspondence between the chart of the anonymous victim and the chart of a killer, like in the case of the Oslo bombings and the later shooting. I have no idea why or what it means. I just noticed it.
An individual football player can score and have a good day when his team loses the game, can he? And the team can have a great day and win, while the individual couldn't catch the ball (and the coach noted it). But in the end, the individual's position will be subject to the position of the team, unless he leaves the team. That is what makes it hard to predict the results of a match (though I tried, see the label 'football' and ' EC').

Venus, Ceres and the Molasses Disaster
For some reason my attention was drawn to the Boston Molasses Disaster of January 15, 1919. Maybe it was an article about ‘The Folklorist’ ( a new TV program). Or is it transit Venus sesquisquare my progressed Ceres? Anyway, I searched for the hour of the moment of disaster and it was mentioned in urbanlegends.about.com: 12.40 pm. What struck me in the chart was the conjunction of sweet Venus and Ceres, the symbol of nutrition. Together they make a sweet thing to eat, and maybe in a fairy tale the flood after the explosion of a molasses tank, would be a kind, tasty and happy river, but it certainly wasn’t a nice product then. It was hot, sticky, fast and an 8 feet high wall of candy-to-be that killed 21 and injured about 150 people (and horses and dogs). The (public domain) picture above was found on http://jerileewei.hubpages.com/hub/Death-by-Molasses, where you find the complete story with more pictures, a map and a recipe for those with self control:).
The most important positions in the chart of the disaster are for Venus and Ceres, Neptune, Uranus, Saturn and Quaoar. The tightest aspects are:
- Venus conjunct Ceres (sweet food)
- Pluto inconjunct MC (transformation of a state, involving a loss and a problem)
- Quaoar square Ascendant (creating a new situation or perspective)
- Saturn-Uranus-Ascendant (unexpected sudden blockade or end)
It is also important that the Ascendant is changing sign, introducing a new situation.
The Venus-Ceres conjunction happens to be one of the tightest aspects, in opposition with the angular Neptune. Neptune is for chemicals.
Such a chart can’t (of course) predict a disaster. It is just describing what could have happened at a certain critical moment in time and place (MC-Ascendant) on a day that luxury food (Venus-Ceres) was an issue. If you have a Venus-Ceres aspect in your chart, sweet candy might be an issue for you. At the moment, with a frustrating sesquisquare between them, it is apparently an issue for me:). So I will skip that recipe!

Cruises, Pisces, Neptune and Varuna
A few months ago I booked a cruise in the Mediterranean Sea. We
will sail from Venice to Barcelona, via Athens, Istanbul, Izmir, Napels and Rome. It will be our fourth cruise. Earlier we went to
Norway (twice) and to the Baltic (Saint Petersburg, Helsinki, Stockholm, Kopenhagen and Tallinn; we plan to 'do' all European capitals, so still some to go:).
My Pisces
Ascendant conjunct Jupiter might explain why I like cruises, even though I get
seasick when it storms. This position makes it easy to spoil yourself, too! So it is perfectly in line with a relaxed (I hope!) trip at sea.
The sea is part of Pisces in
the astrological vocabulary and so is Neptune. Disasters at sea happen now and
then, but this ship (Costa Concordia) and the Titanic hit something solid with
a (not exact) minor aspect between Neptune (god of the sea) and Varuna (the
symbol of the god of the waters). The Titanic disaster had Neptune sesquisquare
Varuna. Costa Concordia had Neptune biquintile Varuna. Also, the position of Varuna on January 13, 2012 is square the Ascendant of the moment when the Titanic sank. And there was Sun opposition Varuna on January 13...
![]() |
Titanic (sinking) and transits of January 13, 2012 |
It might just be coincidence. But it was reason enough for me to have a look at the astrological positions during my cruise, as Neptune (and Varuna)
move slowly. Luckily there
is no connection between them.
Now I wonder about captains: are Neptune, Pisces and Varuna good positions for a captain or an officer on board? Will they be attracted by the sea? Or do people with these
influences act like I do: avoid a profession with lives at risk and try to have
important data checked by another person, because they know that it is hard not to 'drift off' or forget about things. Neptune/Pisces is very distracting. For example: I should have done that checking when I
thought to have found the day of birth of the captain of the Costa Concordia.
He looks younger than he is!:)

Two years after l'Aquila
Two years ago on Astropost: Chart of the earthquake in L'Aquila (Italy) and Uranus . Quote about the importance of Uranus in the chart of the earthquake:
1. Uranus is the first outer planet rising before the Sun: there is an orientation on an accident or a shocking event
2. Uranus does not make Ptolemaic aspects in sign or orb 5 degrees (in other words: Uranus is 'calling'! and that means that Uranus can be shocking at any possible level)
3. Uranus is exactly square the midpoint Sun/Moon so that there is 'a reigning need' to shock the world
2. Uranus does not make Ptolemaic aspects in sign or orb 5 degrees (in other words: Uranus is 'calling'! and that means that Uranus can be shocking at any possible level)
3. Uranus is exactly square the midpoint Sun/Moon so that there is 'a reigning need' to shock the world
And Uranus was exactly trine Midheaven!
Now they are rebuilding the city. I hope that the residents found a new home. Here is news about the city...

Happy New Year!
It is astrological New Year this Sunday (UT 23:20:50). In most of the time zones it will be March 21 when the Sun leaves the astrological sign of Pisces. Then the Sun will be in the first degree of Aries, the first sign of the astrological zodiac and right above the equator, on his way up to the tropic of Cancer (midsummer). Springtime!
We long for warmth and blooming flowers and we are still in the middle of global unrest and tension. The chart is mirroring that. The chart of springtime has the Sun between Mars and Uranus, with the Sun conjunct Uranus. The combination of Sun, Mars and Uranus is the combination of the short fuse, incidents and techniques (or unconventional struggle) at work. We are in an explosive situation in many ways. There is military action in Libya, there is the problem with the nuclear plants in Japan...Here are the charts of springtime in Tokyo and Tripoli and a chart related to the flowers and the bees: the Keukenhof chart. As to be expected, the last one is the most pleasant one.
TOKYO
When the astrological new year starts and people are on their way to the office on Monday, the midpoint of Ascendant and Midheaven for Tokyo is exactly semi square Uranus at Zero Aries, resonating the hectic and nervous situation.

Spring in Tokyo |
KEUKENHOF
There is a lot to do in the world, but it is springtime, too. And with Mars rising before the Sun I expect temperatures to rise soon (isn't Mars the 'hot' planet?:) One of my country's big attractions is Keukenhof, often visited by tourist from Japan, who now remain in their troubled country. Here is the chart of this attraction, with Jupiter rising before the Sun (indication of the international orientation), conjunct Venus and opposition Pluto on the axis AC/DC...there is a lot of many to earn and a lot of success was promissed from the start. The tightest aspect is Moon trine Venus, for sense of style and beauty. Isn't that the kind of springtime chart we would like to see now?
Keukenhof, start
APRIL 2: MARS CONJUNCT URANUS
On April 2, 2011 there will be a conjunction of Mars and Uranus in the first degrees of Aries. For those born on the 21st, 22nd or 23th of December, March, June or September that is an alert. The Japanese Emperor Akihito (see his chart) was born with the Sun in the first degree of Capricorn and the earthquake was with transit Uranus square his Sun and more difficult transits and progressions.
It takes more than just this transit, but still it is a warning not to drive too fast, for example. The conjunction of Mars and Uranus might be a 'perfect' moment for surgery, for acting on impulse, incidents and accidents. It is the combination of a shock or surprise (something that makes you nervous or 'wakes you up') and action, getting hurt or starting something new, like your response to the alarm in the fresh new morning. Astrology has a large vocabulary, but Mars-Uranus is supposed to accelerate whatever you do...It is a matter of circumstances, genes, gender and situation (+ the rule of 3) in what way your chart will resonate the present positions of Mars and Uranus. However, the orientational Mars is the symbol of sports, soldiers and activists or activism. It might be a 'hot' spring in many ways. April 2 is a chance for astrology to see if Mars conjunct Uranus has a more than individual effect.
In fact, it already is 'hot', because allied forces are attacking the army of Kadafi.
The Spring Chart for Libya, where springtime starts at 2:20:50 a.m. has three prominent positions: Sun and Uranus opposition Midheaven and Pholus on the Ascendant. The angular Sun, Uranus and Pholus together show a crucial flashing change and a turning point on the horizon. Add this to the orientational Mars and you may notice that the most prominent positions in this chart are for Sun,Mars, Uranus and Pholus: turning point (Pholus) and an unconventional (Uranus) war (Mars) going on (techniques and a struggle, like in Japan). Let us hope that Sun conjunct Uranus will free the people (represented by the IC).
The Ascendant of the chart of spring in Libya is opposition the Sun of Kadafi. His desperate attempt to keep his position is reflected by the transit Pluto quindecile progressed Sun. The quindecile is the aspect of obsession and fanatism (the strong focus) and Pluto is the symbol of power, force, money, influence and strategy. Also transit Nessus is opposition his progressed Sun (see http://astropost.blogspot.com/2011/02/nessus-now-opposition-progressed-sun.html). Quote:
(about Nessus:Nessus is a quite recent object in the astrological chart. The myth of Nessus is that of a centaur who assaulted the wife of Hercules. Hercules shot him, but when he was dying Nessus gave his shirt (and blood) to Hercules'wife saying that if she gave it to Heracles, he would never be untrue to her. He wouldn't, because he died.)
Of course there is more that is reflecting problems, like transit Pluto quindecile progressed Sun (obsessed survival? danger), for example and progressed Mercury conjunct natal Saturn (that is a symbol of departure of final decission/separation and of hard decissions, too). Unfortunately the hour of birth is unknown and that is limiting the observations.
But let us get back to Nessus.
Quadhafi became Libia's leader on January 15, 1970.That was with transit Jupiter exactly square his natal Pluto (a sign of success) and... opposition Nessus. There he is again: Nessus. Just a quick observation...

About war and Mars rising before the Sun, see Astropost, 'Mars at War'
Springtime starts with the first degree of Aries. More about Aries here...
Those born with Mars rising before the Sun happen to be more assertive, aggressive, active and driven than others are. Women with this position are more likely to 'cheat' than other women will, because of their orientation. At least, my examples show that Mars rising before the Sun is frequent in their charts. See the post about cheating..here..

Uranus, Uranium and the arrow of time
The chemical element Uranium, discovered in 1789 by the German chemist Martin Heinrich Klaproth, was named after the newly discovered planet Uranus. ...That is on Wikipedia. Uranium is the fuel of the nuclear plant. Right now there is a lot of attention for radiation levels, following the earthquake in Japan. Right now Uranus is in the first degree of Aries.
Earlier I studied the historic events during Uranus in Aries (in the first degree) and I found few Historic Events, except for the invention of the first accelerator. There were no nuclear plants in those days. That is a new situation.
A week ago I watched Professor Brian Cox about the Second Law of Thermodynamics related to the universe. If I understood him well, he said:
- entropy increases
- from order to disorder
- past will change
- future won't return to past
That is the arrow of time. Everything must eventually end. And when it ends, we can't get things back as they used to be. Change is all around.
Picture this: a piece of ice falling of a gletscher will never get out of the water again and manage to stick to that wall like before. (The idea about the universe is, that in the end there will be nothing left but a minuscule dark spot.)
That is what happens with history and the positions of planets, too. Nothing is the same as it was before.
When Uranus was named 'Uranus' (a few years after Herschel spotted the planet), there was shortage of food in Europe (because of dust of the vulcano Laki). The French Revolution followed, a few years later than the outburst of Laki. There was no Uranus-Pluto or Uranus at Aries Point. And there was no nuclear plant.
That is what crossed my mind...

The chart of April 13, 2036 (Apophis)
The Apocalyps seems to be coming in the shape of Apophis, an asteroid that will hit the earth on April 13, 2036 as Russian scientists calculated. The impact might create a desert (size = France) or not (when the asteroid is broken into pieces in the atmosphere). But they hope to make a ship collide with the asteroid so that Apophis changes course, anyway.
This is the chart of the day that Apophis might hit us for a random 13:13 hours (and the 'transits' are for the day of the Tunguska Event when a meteoroid hit Siberia). It is not a very special chart, but Pholus is conjunct Quaoar and that is the combination of creative turning points. Let us hope that the point turns away from earth!

Mediocre chart positions of catastrophic erruptions
After watching a documentary about Iceland's vulcanos, I got curious. What in the charts of the days of the main erruptions in history would indicate the impact of these disasters, I wondered.
This post is about two catastrophic vulcanos: Laki and Krakatao (Krakatau in Indonesian) and my findings about the charts of those days. I'm sorry to say that the charts didn't correspond with the events (not at first sight). Vulcanos, like revolutions*), don't come out of the blue. Something is boiling long before we see the steam. Nevertheless, wouldn't you expect to see more firework in the chart below? The erruptions had a world wide and bad effect. The erruption of Laki caused starvation. The dust blocked the sunlight for months. It is possible that the erruption of Laki indirectly caused the French Revolution (food prices...). The Krakatao split Sumatra and Java and the wave even reached the Canal (between France and England!). The world temperature lowered 1.2 degrees! It was the greatest vulcanic erruption ever and we can only pray that there won't be another one. Read Wikipedia about Laki and Krakatao (use the links) and you can understand the concern about sleeping vulcanos today.Every now and then there are predictions about disasters, revolutions, big wars and other nasty events. Those who predict them use to point at the positions of planets, for example a T-square or a Yod or a vital position at Zero Aries. But when there IS a disaster at world scale, there is no such indication! See the positions for Laki (inside the circle) and for Krakatao (outside the circle) and you may notice that the only correspondence is the 25th degree of Cancer and the beneficial Venus of Laki and Jupiter of Krakatao in that degree, conjunct the lucky star Procyon. Unless we are to believe that it was a big party to create a vulcanic island, this is an astrological mystery. There is no tight aspect at all. (Please note that the position of the Moon is unclear (there is no exact hour). What in the charts of the most important erruptions shows that it was an event that had a disastrous global effect? There is nothing! It doesn't help to say that there is no exact hour (and no exact positions for the Moon,Ascendant or Midheaven), because the events shook the world and the oceans and the sky above at large scale. It was a day to remember for many and in many countries. It was the birth of a nasty dark and dusty period.
Maybe there is an explanation at another level (parallels, a combination of fixed stars with a midpoint, who knows) but nothing in the charts seems to warn us for what was to happen on exactly that day. If I didn't write more than 1200 posts here with another message, and if it was my first study, I would have doubts about the meaning of charts.
Conclusion: real big events (caused by nature) can't be 'predicted'' by watching the positions of planets, sun and moon and...the lack of tight and important aspects and positions doesn't mean that there will be no big event. 'Disaster' means 'des astres' (from the stars), and I wonder which one...Or... perhaps I overlooked something? If I did, please tell me so. I'll be back on this subject after I studied the midpoint combinations.
