Fixed stars? What about Fomalhaut...

Recently I read a bit about fixed stars, in particular Fomalhaut, and via via I sort of bumped into the chart of Jim Bakker. This minister got in trouble in 1987.  Some astrologers blame Fomalhaut for this. But: what exactly did his chart show then? And what can we learn from that? It is such a lot that I decided to divide my story in more than just one part, starting with Fomalhaut. I am very interested in Fomalhaut, as it is on my Ascendant, too. Is it as bad (or good) as they say?

This is Jim Bakker's chart for the day that the public was told about his mistakes.

Fomalhaut had nothing to do with that day. There were no transits nor progressions related to that fixed star on the man's Ascendant.
Fomalhaut, by Nasa

Fixed star Fomalhaut is in the 4th degree (3-4) of Pisces.  Janduz pictured this degree as the hermit's place or a sanctuary. Others say that there is a dark side on Fomalhaut. The charisma that sometimes comes with a special position of this fixed star will only be positive when we stick to our ideals.

It would be nice to study many more charts with a 4th degree Pisces Ascendant and see if there is indeed a special meaning to Fomalhaut on the Ascendant, benefic or malefic. Are there any more examples? I have Jim Bakker,  Fabrizio Ravanelli (football player born December 11, 1968),  Ellen Pompeo (November 10, 1968), French painter Henri Laville, Alain Lamassoure (politician), the eldest woman ever: Jeanne Calment, Pierre Paolo Passolini... And searching the web this is what crossed my mind:

If Fomalhaut on the Ascendant makes you either famous or notorious, why aren't there many more examples and why aren't there many more famous/notorious persons with Fomalhaut on the Ascendant?

Tthe chart of Jim Bakker shows me that it takes more than just Fomalhaut to explain his situation. Did I also learn that Fomalhaut is meaningless? It is just a thought, but it is one that suites my way of interpreting a chart as 'the picture of what we see on earth, including all that an astrologer chooses to use'.

How meaningful are those fixed stars? I know a person who's Midheaven is conjunct Regulus. He thinks he will or ought to be a sort of a king. But many many millions are born with Sun conjunct Regulus! We may never even notice them. (OK Maybe that is because the Sun is not align with Regulus and it takes a parallel conjunction, too. But that doesn't apply to the Ascendant…)

Fixed stars might be 'part of the picture' and they should be studied related to charts, progressions, transits and people. Fixed stars shouldn't be seen as an omen. That is what I think I learned, but ...I am curious about testimonies and examples that prove me wrong.

Sirius, election day and Obama's progressed chart

BO and B.Obama running
Looking back at my 2010 post about Obama and about the 2012 elections, I read what I wrote about fixed star Sirius again. I almost forgot that the fixed star Sirius is opposition the Progressed Midheaven of Barack Obama in this period of Presidency. During the first year of his office, transit Sirius passed the progressed meridian.

Sirius, if culminating, means 'high office'*) and being the President of the USA is perhaps the highest office in the world. Sirius is opposition MC, and that is the opposite of culminating. Barack Obama IS the President. Perhaps it is enough to hit the meridian...

ELECTIONS AND SIRIUS
Here is the progressed chart of November 6, 2012 when transit Sun is trine Sirius, a perfect day to see who will be the next one in 'high office'. In fact, transit Sun was trine Sirius every Presidential election day of the past century and trine everybody's Sirius. Barack Obama's progressed Midheaven also 'hits' that trine.

Sirius is the 'dog star' (think of Sirius Black in Harry Potter: he sometimes appeared as a dog). When Barack Obama entered the White House, he was given ... a dog (called Bo, B-arack O-bama). Time will tell if transits and progressions go bye. It will be November 6 soon.

HISTORY AND SOLAR RETURN
Here is the natal, progressed and transits of November 6, 2008, when transit Jupiter was square the progressed Ascendant. (Jupiter is quindecile natal Midheaven in 2012 and transit Pluto opposition natal Sun/Moon. In the solar return chart for birthday in Washington DC, Jupiter is on top)

4. President Obama's progressed chart says more about his career than the natal chart does. The elevated Saturn in Capricorn with Pluto rising before the Sun are telling us about the importance of strategy (politics) and status (managing). He sort of grew into this position, as I explained in an earlier post. And now he will always be one of the Presidents...

Dog days and Sirius

Don Leicht created this.
The Dog Days are here again. The Dog Days originally were the days when Sirius (the brightest star of Canis Major - that means Large Dog-) rose just before or at the same time as sunrise (heliacal rising), which is no longer true, owing to precession of the equinoxes.

But we still call the weeks from almost end of July till almost end of August the Dog Days. In Harry Potter, Sirius Black is the wizzard who is able to transform into a massive black dog.
Time to have a look at Sirius position in astrology.

One of the sites that I recommend is Constellations of Words. Sirius is mentioned on that site and we see that this star is now in the 15th degree of Cancer. (see http://constellationsofwords.com/stars/Sirius.html)
I quote:  With Sun:....' If rising or culminating, kingly preferment. [Robson*, p.209.]"

I'd like to see some examples of this (any 15th degree Cancer Ascendant conjunct Sun in the house?:) But this degree of Sirius seems to give honor in general (see: http://www.constellationsofwords.com/categories/REPUTATION.html) So I checked July's 5 and July's 6, but every date has a number of celebrities...Perhaps Sirius is more important when Sirius is in line (parallel) with the Sun or Ascendant? Anyway...

The Dog Days are the hottest days (not in the southern hemisphere, I am afraid) and after all the rain and chilly days of June and July I really long for something of the past:)...

Mediocre chart positions of catastrophic erruptions

After watching a documentary about Iceland's vulcanos, I got curious. What in the charts of the days of the main erruptions in history would indicate the impact of these disasters, I wondered.
This post is about two catastrophic vulcanos: Laki and Krakatao (Krakatau in Indonesian) and my findings about the charts of those days. I'm sorry to say that the charts didn't correspond with the events (not at first sight). Vulcanos, like revolutions*), don't come out of the blue. Something is boiling long before we see the steam. Nevertheless, wouldn't you expect to see more firework in the chart below? The erruptions had a world wide and bad effect. The erruption of Laki caused starvation. The dust blocked the sunlight for months. It is possible that the erruption of Laki indirectly caused the French Revolution (food prices...). The Krakatao split Sumatra and Java and the wave even reached the Canal (between France and England!). The world temperature lowered 1.2 degrees! It was the greatest vulcanic erruption ever and we can only pray that there won't be another one. Read Wikipedia about Laki and Krakatao (use the links) and you can understand the concern about sleeping vulcanos today.

Every now and then there are predictions about disasters, revolutions, big wars and other nasty events. Those who predict them use to point at the positions of planets, for example a T-square or a Yod or a vital position at Zero Aries. But when there IS a disaster at world scale, there is no such indication! See the positions for Laki (inside the circle) and for Krakatao (outside the circle) and you may notice that the only correspondence is the 25th degree of Cancer and the beneficial Venus of Laki and Jupiter of Krakatao in that degree, conjunct the lucky star Procyon. Unless we are to believe that it was a big party to create a vulcanic island,  this is an astrological mystery. There is no tight aspect at all. (Please note that the position of the Moon is unclear (there is no exact hour). What in the charts of the most important erruptions shows that it was an event that had a disastrous global effect? There is nothing! It doesn't help to say that there is no exact hour (and no exact positions for the Moon,Ascendant or Midheaven), because the events shook the world and the oceans and the sky above at large scale. It was a day to remember for many and in many countries. It was the birth of a nasty dark and dusty period.

Maybe there is an explanation at another level (parallels, a combination of fixed stars with a midpoint, who knows) but nothing in the charts seems to warn us for what was to happen on exactly that day. If I didn't write more than 1200 posts here with another message, and if it was my first study, I would have doubts about the meaning of charts.

Conclusion: real big events (caused by nature) can't be 'predicted'' by watching the positions of planets, sun and moon and...the lack of tight and important aspects and positions doesn't mean that there will be no big event. 'Disaster' means 'des astres' (from  the stars), and I wonder which one...Or... perhaps I overlooked something? If I did, please tell me so. I'll be back on this subject after I studied the midpoint combinations.

Lot of children

What is the astrological recipe for having many (more than an average number of) children? I think that it takes a combination of indications like:
- an important Mars (for production),
- planets in the 5th house of children
- and for enjoying it: Venus-Jupiter!
That is what I see in the example charts. Of course, it is important to know circumstances (where you live, what is 'normal'). In China you ought to have 1 child, and in other parts of the world women keep getting as many children as they can (wanted or not). I don't have their charts, unfortunately, but I have the charts of two persons in my Western world whose number of children was important enough to be mentioned in the press. The example charts are those of Nadya Suleman (14 children) and Rod Stewart (7 up to now). He is in the news these days, because he is expecting his 8th child in March 2011 (with Transit Saturn on his Ascendant). That is when he will be 68!

Mercury opposition Neptune and planning a trip

My ship was to sail on July 26, at 17.00 hours. Of course I had a look at the chart for that moment and I wondered what would go wrong. That was because of a prominent opposition of Mercury and Neptune. See the chart below:

Neptune is exactly opposition the elevated Mercury
Both are in hard aspect with the Ascendant

Why is that not fortunate for departure time?
Mercury is the symbol of transportation.
Neptune is the symbol of confusion.
An opposition always raises eyebrows and means: question marks. Someone or something else, something that you can't control has an effect or makes things questionable.
The question was: will the transportation (Mercury) be a mess (Neptune)? Will there be confusion about the plans?
A very appropriate question for a moment to sail away...and because of the prominent placement of the planets I suspected a confusing situation at departure time and that was right.

 What happened?
On the moment that the ship was due to sail away, they were still loading food and supplies. That was because of a traffic jam earlier that afternoon, when all passengers were arriving and there was no clear notification of where to put the luggage and how to get on board. One of the passengers with the most luxurious cabin sat in the hall for 3 hours, waiting, even though she signed in on the internet. It didn’t seem to worry the luggage handlers in the terminal. They kept telling us that it wasn’t a big deal and all was going splendid.

Well, all is well that ends well and we did get on board. With a better departure chart! Here is the first chart:

Later...
The ship ultimately left at 18:54. That was with Quaoar on the Ascendant in Sagittarius. At 18:54 Mercury and Neptune didn’t have a prominent position any more.  It was time for new horizons and time for a new and relaxing chart. Eventually, it was a very nice, relaxing and enjoyable voyage.  The chart for the true departure time has Venus elevated and all day long Jupiter was rising before the Sun. The combination of a prominent Venus and Jupiter is perfect for parties, weddings and vacations. Spica was on Midheaven and that is another good sign.

HOW ABOUT YOUR TRIP?
So, even when your trip starts with Mercury in hard aspect, don’t worry. It is often just a schedule thing…and you might end up with Spica on Midheaven (promising good fortuneJ)
BTW I remember having a meeting planned with Mercury square Saturn in a prominent position and it turned out to be ‘ too late’ because we met half an hour earlier, accidently.

Here is the chart of the real moment of sailing…

Algol, George Clooney, dead bodies and bombs

George Clooney has been confronted with issues of life and death related to his house lately. First they found a dead body near his house and now they discovered a large amount of arms (bombs and granates) less than 15 meters from the walls of his house. This happens to him with:
- transit Pholus in hard aspect with AC/MC (crucial turning point; the catalyst to basic changes)
- the progressive Scorpio Moon square Jupiter and 75 degrees from Uranus (moment of relief)
- progressed MC in minor hard aspect with Vesta
(indicating domestic issues)
- transit Node trine Sun and progressed Sun sextile Node
(good relationship with the community)
Also, the progressed Ascendant is conjunct Algol, the 'demon star'. In classical astrology Algol is considered to be a (or should I say: THE) most unfortunate -binary -fixed star. Maybe that explains?

Here is the progressed chart of George Clooney. For the birth chart and talent of George Clooney, see the post on Art&Astrology.

Astrology chart of Bilal (Franck) Ribéry

Bilal (or Franck) Ribéry has three reasons to be 'in the news':
1. a scandal about a minor aged prostitute (while he is married with children)
2. a deserved red card (he stepped on another man's foot real hard)
3. a decision about his future with Bayern Munich (he is ready for change)
I found about 10 astrological reasons for trouble and change in the natal chart. For the list and chart scroll down. Here are some observations about the natal chart. This chart is showing the importance of women, the genetic qualities and successes, the religious change, the scars caused by an accident and ...It shows an intriguing variation of the meaning of Pholus (the Centaur who shot in his foot): to shoot using your foot...:)

CHERCHÉZ LA FEMME...
Cherchéz la femme in the chart: Moon is rising before the Sun, Venus is 'calling' (without major aspects), Ceres is on the Ascendant. Female symbols are of vital importance in this chart.
The calling Venus in Taurus is biquintile Pluto, reflecting a creative way to earn money.

GENETIC QUALITIES (CERES)
His brother is also a well known soccer (European football) player. Apparently the men have the right genetic material for this sport. Perhaps that is why we see Ceres (symbol of what you inherit) on an angle, on the Ascendant.

JUPITER/URANUS=MC=ANTARES
Indications for successes in the chart: Jupiter ruler of Midheaven square Sun/Moon (motivated for successes, travelling, the international), Jupiter on Midheaven (growing in society).
Also Midheaven = Jupiter/Uranus *)- sudden windfall- = Antares,fixed star of fame.

CONVERTED TO ISLAM (URANUS IN THE NINTH)
His Algerian wife is Muslim. Franck converted to Islam in 2002. Transits of Jupiter and Neptune (combination of religion) accompanied transits of Pluto and Pholus (for change). Uranus (in Sagittarius!) is conjunct Midheaven (and Jupiter!) in the 9th house. The position of Uranus in the 9th house is an indication for conversion in the field of conviction. (Another example is Youssouf Islam (Cat Stevens). See his chart on Art&Astrology...) The conjunction with Midheaven makes the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction important for his position in the world.

SERIOUS ACCIDENT (MARS - SATURN)
When Ribéry was 2 years old he got hurt in a car accident. The accident left him with scars on his face. I found no date of the accident.

There is a tough and difficult combination of Mars, Saturn and Pluto in his natal chart that is growing in progression and with the transits. But, Jupiter and Uranus are on Midheaven and this combination is THE reflection of 'luck' with an accident and relief. Also transit Jupiter was sextile Pholus and close to the Ascendant at the time. Progressed Mercury and Mars were square natal Lilith and opposition transit Pluto (Mercury conjunct Mars).

PHOLUS RISING BEFORE THE SUN
Just like in the chart of Dick Advocaat, I see an important Pholus (conjunct the Sun). Football is about shooting and feet and so is Pholus:). Pholus is the object of orientation in this chart.

LIST OF TRANSITS AND PROGRESSIONS
- transit Pluto conjunct progressed Midheaven
- transit Pluto sesquisquare progressed Mars
- transit Saturn sesquisquare progressed Sun
- transit Uranus semi square progressed Sun
(- transit Neptune 75 degrees progressed Sun)
- transit Neptune on his AC/MC for the scandal
- progressed Moon square natal Saturn and conjunct Lilith (Saturn is square Lilith in the natal chart)
- transit Lilith square Venus
Saturn is about separations and endings, Saturn-Uranus about wanting to break free and Pluto is so challenging and intense that he often causes stress. The Mars-Pluto combination is perhaps reflecting the fact that he has to defend himself in the prostitute case (the girl was not 18 yet, but he didn't know).

Nicer transits are:
- transit Jupiter sextile Venus
- transit Pholus sextile Ascendant
There is an opportunity for celebrations and for a turning point in his situation. And if this h.o.b. is correct, the progressed Midheaven is now in hard aspect with Jupiter/Pluto (for a lot of profit).

*)JUPITER/URANUS
PS The ninth house is the house of Jupiter/Sagittarius. Astrologers always have Jupiter-Uranus combinations prominently in their charts. As astrology is the sort of conviction that you learn (and usually is not thought at young age) you could consider the Jupiter-Uranus connection with astrology as the reflection of a conversion of conviction. See the labels for more.

Maradonna's dog bite

I don’t want to ' blame' Pholus for everything, now that I recently ‘ discovered’ this object. Fixed star Sirius also was important in the incident with Diego Maradonna's dog. Neptune contributed, too. And there were supporting transits avoiding worse than bitten lips. But still, transit Pholus is exactly inconjunct the natal Mars of Maradonna, now that he has been bitten by one of his own dogs. I think that bite might change the way that he plays (or fights) with his dogs form now on..
Other indications for getting hurt and animals are transit Neptune almost and transit Chiron exactly square the DD-rated Ascendant given by Astrodatabank.
Lucky besides: progressed Venus is conjunct natal Pholus, maybe that helped and so did transit Jupiter conjunct the Moon in Pisces (and square Mercury). Maradonna had some lucky stars on his side (though it might feel bad:(

With Sun conjunct Neptune there might be a tendency to be too close to animals in general, especially in times when progressed Mars is conjunct Sirius, like here. Sirius is one of the fixed stars related to dog bites (see http://www.constellationsofwords.com/Fixedstars.htm)

For more about the incident, see The Hindu.

Chart of Serena Williams explaining behaviour?

Serena Williams didn’t take it well when she lost her placement for the US Open Finale (see the You Tube video). She smashed her racket and looked aggressive. Emotions seemed not to be in control. How could that happen? Does her chart explain the behaviour? Yes it does! She is first of all following her emotions (Moon rising before the Sun) and right now the progressed Moon is in the final degree of a sign, without aspects. Emotions are being highlighted. Behaviour (the way that you do things) is also symbolized by the Ascendant. The natal Ascendant is inconjunct her natal Sun: 'starlike' behaviour that is not always been accepted by the outside world, just like now...

It is easy to see the star in this chart and the strong will to be a winner (‘calling’ Sun and Pluto are both in aspect with AC/MC, for example). It is also easy to combine circumstances (training all her life), genes (her sister is also a tennis player) and the chart to get a super star. Speaking of stars: how about the effect of Sharatan? Here is more about the chart of Serena Williams...

MOON for MOODS
The Moon is rising before her Sun and is square Neptune. She may be overly sensitive. In the progressed chart the Moon is in the final degree of Virgo, a Void Moon opposition Aries Point. Emotions – at any level, moods – are shown to the public…

MERCURY for COMMUNICATIONS
Mercury is on the Descendant and not making major aspects in sign or orb 5 degrees: this is reflecting ‘communicating at any possible level’.

MARS for FIGHTING
Mars is inconjunct Midheaven: sport and enterprise, but…it costs energy or involves aggression (too much).

SUN for STAR
Her natal Sun doesn’t make major aspects in sign or orb 5 degrees: it is a ‘calling’ Sun, drawing attention at any possible level. The inconjunction is reflecting the risk to loose balance. And the Ascendant is the gate to the outside world. Sun inconjunct Ascendant: arrogance and possible lost of honour are two of the interpretations. The attitude helped her to be a star, perhaps, but the outside world doesn’t always ‘buy’ the starlike airs, even if she IS a star).

SHARATAN
What the drawing above doesn’t show is, that Sharatan is on the Ascendant. The fixed star Sharatan means: violence, defeat, accidents, injury, danger, honors (according to Astrologycom.com). The Ascendant shows how we present ourselves. Serena Williams is a famous top tennis player and honors have come her way. But every professional sports man or woman will be defeated one day. And no one wants to be defeated, so: beat it?:)

Astrology chart Roald Amundsen

On June 18, 1928 Roald Amundsen disappeared when he was flying near Spitsbergen. On that day Mars was square his natal Sun and Venus, while transit Uranus was trine Jupiter. These close aspects tell us that he might have been hurt. The trine between Jupiter and Uranus refers to a 'relief' (and sometimes even dying is a relief: see the earlier post). Right now they are trying to locate his lost plane (that perhaps contains his body) with new scientific methods, searching 40 square kilometers of the sea. That is reason enough to have a look at his chart. In short his chart tells us that the influence of Neptune (sea, hidden things), the Mercury-Jupiter! angularity (travel, anyhow, anyway and the fixed 'dog star' Procyon all contributed to his life style and death. The final accident is reflected by the importance of Mars - ruler of the Midheaven and rising before the Sun - half semi square the unaspected Uranus.

Together with his family background, the historic scene and his interests in his teenage years, those are the components to create the single strongly driven traveler and explorer who one day vanished at sea. Above you see the chart that I will explain below.

MERCURY AND JUPITER HIGHLIGHTED: TRAVELLING!!
Mercury and Jupiter are highlighted in his birth chart and they were again highlighted in his teenage years. Mercury and Jupiter are the planets of traveling and 'broadcasting' messages. Amundsen told the world about his discoveries and traveled from the North Pole to Alaska. This is how the planets became a vital part of his astrological ID:

1. By angularity
Mercury and Jupiter on the Ascendant, the planets of transport and traveling are of crucial importance in this chart!

2. By the lack of aspects
Mercury and Jupiter don't make Ptolemaic aspects in sign or orb 5 degrees. I name that 'calling' planets. These planets are important for a vocation and lead to activities of the planets’ kind at any possible level.

3. By the combination with Sun/Moon
(Ascendant = Mercury/Jupiter = Sun/Moon = Saturn)
This combination of midpoints with the Ascendant tells us that was motivated to traveling and communicating and that this was strongly related to his environment and presentations and that ambition and a certain 'cool' and hard attitude was involved.

4. By progression
The progressed Sun was conjunct Jupiter and Mercury when he was a teenager. So, in the important period of growing and making choices, Mercury and Jupiter (the most important combination in his chart) were highlighted (by the Sun). The progressed Sun shows how your life 'continues' and how a person develops. Amundsen's natal drive to travel developed in his early years!
So we can be certain that he was a traveler, an international, someone with a message.
But there is more that directed him to the kind of life that he lived. Like in most charts it is the complete picture of the birth moment in time and place that is reflecting how and why a person becomes who he is. In this case also the environmental and genetical influences (reflected by Ascendant and Ceres) are important. Every chart should be read knowing the background, economical and social circumstances and historical situations. They are WITH the natal chart and progressions the parts of the puzzle of the individual identity and his life style. Here is more about his Astro ID (see the picture of his chart):

- Mars rising before the Sun: that is a statement for action, activism, competition and energy! He strongly competed with another explorer, Scott. In 1888 (age 15/16), when he decided to become an explorer, Mars was on the Descendant of his Solar Return chart (birthday of 1887).
- There are no planets or lights in air signs and no planets or lights in movable signs and that places communications and flexibility (moves) in the spotlights: at any possible level!
- His family roots: ship owners and captains...We see a ‘calling’ Ceres (symbol of the roots and genes) at 157.5 degrees from AC/MC to show the crucial importance of the genes and roots at any kind of level...
- Uranus, not aspected (not within sing or orb 5 degrees by Ptolemaic aspects) shows us that adventure and excitement, together with shocks will be a major part of his life and life style. Uranus, half semi square Mars, reflects the hot temper and the possibility of accidents. See my site Astromarkt...

NEPTUNE
Neptune is often involved in case of disappearances. Neptune is the symbol of hidden things, the things that you cannot see or that remain a secret to us, the sea, visions, fantasy and...very far journeys overseas.

In the chart of Roald Amundsen has Sun and Venus square Neptune in the natal chart. Neptune is quintile his Mars and semi square AC/MC, just like Sun and Venus. Netpune is important.

NEPTUNE/PLUTO
The midpoint Neptune/Pluto (the combination of mysteries and discretion) is exactly on top of his chart. This combination is also important in the charts of magicians, detectives and spies and in the charts of those who do a job that others may consider to be abnormal or paranormal or 'strange'. Neptune/Pluto is perhaps also the signature of those who explore and discover the world 'behind' the obvious, visible and known world. Now that they are searching for his remains, we see Neptune on the Descendant of his Solar Return chart to demonstrate that disappearance and mystery is (again) of importance regarding his name. On October 11 transit Neptune will beactly inconjunct his natal Sun and that aspect is already active today. I wonder if that is a positive sign. When people vanish (or want to vanish) Neptune is active, too. And this aspect is also seen in cases of nasty revelations. We will see...

Read also about Neptune and Pluto's effect in general and in the charts of spies...or click the label below for more examples of and info.

PROCYON*)
Perhaps the fact that his Sun (ruler of the Ascendant) and Venus were conjunct Procyon at the time of his birth contributed to his life style or more to the way that he died. William Lilly said that the influence of Procyon 'designs a petulant saucy fellow, prone to anger, proud, careless, violent, giddy', even though Procyon is supposed to be a star that promisses success (and carries the danger of a fall later). Those aggressive tendencies are perhaps qualities needed to become a driven explorer in isolated places, but they may not have been fortunate for a happy social life.
(Link to site about Procyon:http://www.constellationsofwords.com/stars/Procyon.html)

PRIVATE LIFE
Amundsen didn't seem to have a private life or a lover, if you read Wikipedia only. I found an interesting bio on fram.nl (http://www.fram.nl/faq/name/amundsen.htm). I read that he had a lover (a married woman; the affair caused a scandal) and that he once adopted two Inuit children. He sent them back to Siberia when he was bankrupt, saying that it was 'just an experiment'. He never married (Mars half semi square Uranus + Venus square Neptune) but he liked women (Moon trine Venus in Cancer) though he wanted to keep some distance (Moon and Venus square Neptune) and didn't want to be a family man. He seems to have been a romantic person (with perhaps a need to escape reality that led him to a journey to escape real life).

He was a traveler, he had the drive and the ambition and he sure wanted to escape daily life. Those are the components for a single explorer, who was able to leave comfort and loved ones (behind) to explore strange (Neptune/Pluto) worlds.
PS Just type 'disappearance' in the left upper corner of this blog astropost.blogspot.com and search this blog for examples. You may be surprised to see that Neptune is always there when someone vanishes.

*)Amundsen used dogs, one of the reasons why he could have more success than Scott had. He learned how to use dogs from the Inuit. As it happens, Procyon means 'before the dog'. Procyon is the brightest star in 'Canis minor' (Sirius is much brighter in 'Canis major').

Chart of Mata Hari (and Christine Keeler's)

A natal chart shows the profile, the character and the important issues in life. What happens next, following birth, is shown in transits and progressions. Of course: related to social position, history and culture. The same positions and aspects don't reflect the same kind of life. That said, I like to show you the resemblance of two charts and the resemblance of two lives.

These are the charts of Christine Keeler and Mata Hari. Observe the 7 important and prominent shared components of their charts. In this post I will also show you how the most prominent planetary combinations in Mata Hari's chart at birth are present at the day of her execution (activating the natal positions). Meanwhile I introduce (or I recall, for those who have visited my blog before) the effect of Neptune-Pluto and Mars-Uranus, with a few links (scroll down) for more information.

WHO ARE THEY?
Christine Keeler is the famous call girl who slept with John Profumo AND a Russian guy, Yevgeny Ivanov. Mata Hari is the oriental nude dancer who was executed during the First World War after accusations of being a spy. If you are interested in the artistic side of Mata Hari, see Art&Astrology.

WHAT DO THEY SHARE?
Both ladies earned their money in the sex industry and both got into trouble because of the fact that they slept with 'both sides', one in a real war and one in the 'cold war'. They share more. They both lost a child and were not lucky with male partners. And there is much likeness in their charts.

What their charts share are:
1. Mars conjunct Uranus, tightly, for an extraordinary drive (or special sexual activity)
2. Sun on top, for drawing attention
3. Important Pluto (symbol of money and sex and politics). In the chart of Mata Hari Pluto is the first outer planet rising before the Sun. In the chart of Christine Keeler Pluto is on the IC (opposition MC).
4. Neptune is equally important in the chart of Mata Hari (on the Descendant) as in the chart of Christine Keeler (first outer rising planet before the Sun, opposition Aries Point).
5. 23rd degree of fixed signs. Christine Keeler has Mars conjunct Saturn in the 23rd of Taurus. Mata Hari has Jupiter in the 23rd of Scorpio and the Midheaven in the 23rd of Leo. See 'OFF TOPIC', below.
6. Neptune and Pluto are both prominent and related to the Sun (Mata Hari has Sun square Neptune/Pluto; Keeler has Sun opposition Neptune/Pluto - a midpoint yod pointing at the Sun).
7. Ceres is important. IN Mata Hari's chart Ceres is on the Ascendant, in Christine Keeler's chart Ceres is the first object rising before the Sun. Ceres symbolizes 'mother nature', the forces of nature and nurture. (BTW Ceres is the mother of Proserpine, who was taken and raped by Pluto and forced to live with him in winter.)

It is the combination of the shared items that does 'it'. Their charts reflect the importance of being a 'starry' but discrete woman with a special urge to be independent and adventurous. And notice how politics (Pluto) influenced their lives. In the chart of Mata Hari Mars and Uranus are conjunct Midheaven. Uranus on Midheaven is reflecting controversy. There is still controversy about the question if she was or was not a spy.

MATA HARI's BIRTH CHART AND DEATH
In the chart of Mata Hari Sun, Mars, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are more important than the other positions in her chart. Sun, Mars and Uranus are on top or on the MC. Neptune is angular (on the Descendant). Pluto is the oriental planet (as Pluto is the first outer planet rising before the Sun). Mars, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto were all active when she was executed.

On 24 July 1917 Mata Hari was convicted to death with transit Uranus opposition her Midheaven (and that activated the natal Uranus conjunct Midheaven!). Transit Mars was opposition her progressed Ascendant during the dubious trial and on the day of the verdict Uranus was opposition progressed Uranus, while Saturn was inconjunct Saturn and Mars inconjunct Jupiter. She could not believe that the death sentence was true.

She had been a suspect since May 1916 (with progressed Ascendant inconjunct progressed Neptune and the progressed Midheaven inconjunct progressed Neptune in November). Neptune is an important factor in times of being suspected (or when 'they talk about you') and when things are not as they seem.

Transit Pluto was square progressed Midheaven and inconjunct progressed Ascendant on the day of her execution. Transit Mars was conjunct Uranus (activating the existing Mars-Uranus conjunction on the day that she was born). Neptune was square natal Ascendant....Notice how Neptune and Pluto (the most important planets in her natal chart) were present on the day she died. That was the day that she became legendary. Uranus' transit on the day of the verdict is also very telling!

The most important planets in her natal chart were making tight aspects on the day that she died.

Neptune and Pluto, the silent force
In this post you read how people with important Neptune-Pluto combinations work or live in an atmosphere of discretion, secrets and mysteries

Mars and Uranus in aspect or midpoint
Mars-Uranus combinations reflect the urge to make changes and go fast. And the extraordinary drive and energy to find excitement. It is an important aspect in the charts of terrorist, freedom fighters and ...accidents: all those who want to live life the fast and drastic way (sometimes in sports).

EXTERNAL LINKS (about the 23rd degree):
As it happens, the 23rd degree seems to be of importance in the Masonic organisation (it is the degree of the Chief of the Tabernacle). I read that the 23rd degree is the first degree of the Mysteries. The importance of the 23rd degree for the mysterious ladies seems to be in line with the Neptune/Pluto influence of the rest of the charts of Mata Hari and Christine Keeler as Neptune/Pluto means: mysteries.

I found an interesting site with images of the degrees by Johannes Engel

The 23rd degree of Taurus is related to Capulus

The 23rd of Scorpio is related to Alpha Serpentis

PS In August 1961 Christine Keelers' progressed Midheaven was in the 23rd degree of Aquarius (square her Mars and Saturn). That is when Profumo wrote her that he couldn't see her anymore and that is when Christine Keeler was 'notorious'.

PPS
Xaviera Hollander (The Happy Hooker) was born on 15 June 1943 in Soerabaja Indonesia and she has Mars septile Uranus . Maybe Mars-Uranus in the chart of women can also refer to adventures (Uranus) with men (Mars) or to controversial (Uranus) jobs (Mars)? I will be back later with Mars-Uranus-female charts.
