The Flexible Astrologer (or JK Rowling’s chart)

I have 3 planets in mutable signs: Sun, Venus, Jupiter. And: Ascendant and Midheaven, too. That makes me rather flexible.

I’ve had problems with the method of boiling an egg when I was sharing an appartment with a co-student. The first day I boiled the water first and let the egg down in the water. When asked, I said that this was my way. The second day, I boiled the egg starting with cold water and when asked, I said: my way is the flexible way. I like this one today. You can imagine the face of the co-student? Why would I have to boil an egg the same way every day if it could be done both ways? So, can you imagine that it  was hard for me to find ‘my way’ in astrology and not make changes on the way and find ‘bypasses’. Well, just as eggs can be boiled using different methods, so can a chart be read using different methods and still produce an eatable product. Nevertheless, as it takes water and an egg and heat to get an eatable boiled egg it takes some basics to get a chart reading that is in line with expectations.

Because of the fact that a chart needs to be seen in the light of social/economic status, gender, genes and culture, there is a lot of flexibility already.

I had a question this week about the planet of orientation (the planet that rises before the Sun) and the question if Mercury and Venus (inner planets) were to be skipped always. Well, when they are important: not. But if they are not: skip them. But include them in your reading in another way! When Mercury rises before your Sun you have an orientation on communications and perhaps you even have oratory skills, but…it very much depends on your status and other qualities if you’ll ever become a star singer, a famous author or a speech writer. You might have to use your communicative abilities in a shop, selling your merchandise. Or you use your voice on the market. It all depends on the world outside and who you know and where you are. Only if your orientational Mercury is on the Ascendant or MC or ‘calling’ (not making major aspects), then you may find one way or another to USE your capability to communicate in a professional manner, as an author, perhaps. Even then you may not find a public or an editor, because you are not in the situation. In those case it depends on other skills like will power, for example, or persistence. And if you are a woman, it helps to look good.

So, it takes a flexible mind to read a chart. Say that you met J.K. Rowling before 1997. Here is her chart for 3:50 pm (why that hour?? I'll explain later) with transits and progressions for the day of release of Harry Potter number one.

Click and open in new window for better view

You’d see Jupiter rising before the Sun. You’d see Sun, Mercury and Venus all three ‘calling’!  This girl has a positive attitude, wants to succeed and travel. She will draw attention, communicate and find a way to make the world a nicer place somehow, anyhow. So will all those born on her day of birth. But only Joanne managed to become one of the richest authors in the world today.
If you hadn’t know that, you could have pointed at ‘abroad, travel, international’ orientations. In fact, her first marriage was with a Portugese man and for a period of time she lived in Portugal! There you’re right. She FIRST became an international, but how could she resist the CALL to write in an entertaining way? But, there must be important angular positions. That (and transit Jupiter on MC in 1997) lead to a supposed hour of birth of 1:48:49 by Isaac Starkman. Jupiter would be on her Ascendant then. It would be nice, but there is also Sun/Moon –Mercury around midday and Quaoar (creator of new worlds) to be on her Ascendant then. So we don’t really know. What we know is that she apparently had the opportunity to write, she was educated and she had children.

I personally would like her hour of birth to be around 3:50 p.m. with the Moon (children’s books!) in Virgo on MC, transit Jupiter inconjunct her natal MC and trine progressed MC in 1997 for double success with transit Uranus inconjunct Sun for the unexpected change in lifestyle. Sun/Moon midpoint conjunct Mercury makes the planet of the author even more important at 15:50. She'd also have Jupiter/Uranus midpoint square Midheaven. Though she wasn't very kind about astrologers in 'Harry Potter', the story goes that she actually made a chart reading for a friend many years ago. So I'd like 3:50 pm, but it is just a guess chart!

Now, where was I? It was about flexibility and flexible signs. I’d almost switch subject via planets of orientation! But in fact, I didn’t. J.K. Rowling has 5 positions in flexible signs.

Blaming Mercury Retrograde

Mercury Retrograde never scares me. It is a great period to blame something else for your own stupid miscommunication. Really, I don't like the kind of mistakes that I made yesterday. It was rather confusing and a matter of 3x misunderstanding each other. It wasn't just me making mistakes. All 3 persons involved did. What else could it be then a Mercury Retrograde experience?
What happened?

First, my husband said he noticed that I payed for something  on January 19, that he already had payed for in December.
I didn't actually listen and think back much as I was on Twitter. I didn't exactly remember paying the amount, but the payment was already more than 2 weeks ago, I thought it MIGHT be so. So, I said: Oh, well, OK.  I told him that I would call the company next day.

So, the next day I did call the company to ask to pay me back. It was Mercury Retrograde already... The financial department of the company didn't quite understand my point and it took a while for them to check things. Then they said that the amount was due to arrive on my account any moment, because they already noticed the double payment.

Nothing happened. They didn't pay me back. So a week later, I wrote an email to explain the case and again asked for the money to be given back.

Soon as I had done that,  I noticed that the amount of January 19 was ADDED to my account. So, they had credited me. My husband had misunderstood the + and thought it was a -.
Still, strange enough, because WHY did they pay us back. It might be a matter of the insurance company paying them (though they first would not and that is why they credited us). And they also used a different bank account number than the one used for paying them. That explains. Or so...perhaps...

They mailed me back asap, and said that the payment was done 2 weeks ago. OK. But apparently they forgot to tell us about it and about the reason why they withdrew the bill.

Maybe this post is difficult to understand, either? In that case I point at Mercury Retrograde again. It is like doing the moonwalk for 3 persons! I don't intend to call them before Mercury is direct, of course. That is not because I think that Mercury Retrograde did this, but just to be sure!:)

Transit Mercury-Uranus and interruptions

Uranus is always flashing and Mercury is fast. So this post about Mercury-Uranus transits will be short! Just before I move on, I like to mention that I experienced transit Uranus square Mercury and transit Mercury square Uranus.

As Mercury's transits are fast and often unnoticed, I never paid much attention to them. But I read CafeAstrology and they are right: transit Mercury square my Uranus indeed interrupted my thoughts. The Mercury-Uranus transit was about my mother having fainted. I received an alarming call coming from the nursing home, but a few hours later it just seemed to have been the start of a cold and the effect of not eating enough. Meanwhile I was in between leaving the office and going to the nursing home and trying to finish my job for the day. There was a tension between the need to see my mother and the need to do my duty. I can't run to the nursing home just like that and drop it all.

The next transit (Uranus square Mercury) was on the day that I had myself informed about my pension fund. The square didn't do any harm, on the contrary. It was a rather pleasant surprise and not shocking. The meeting interrupted another meeting at the office (I had to leave the room for it).
So let's say that transit Uranus only interrupted my job, again, just like Mercury transit did!

In February 2014 Uranus will again be square my Mercury. I wonder what sort of amazing new information I will get then! And how, where and when I will be interrupted, again.

Have you noticed interruptions during transit Mercury - Uranus or vice versa?

Mercury calling Marian Keyes

As always when I spend the spare time during my holidays reading, I consumed 1 book/day and needed to buy more. The 'remedy ' is to buy books in foreign languages, because it takes more time to finish them. In the French town Crest (medieval 51 mneter tower) I was looking for one and myastrologer's eye noticed an appropiate title: The brightest star i th sky by Marian Keyes with lots of pages to turn I very much enjoyed the story. I spent only 12 euro for a week fillled with hours of pleasure, just because of that book. Boy, can she tell a lobg story and keep you interested! I read in the hot sun, in the shadow, when the moon was rising and by the light of a candel. Of course I wanted to know where the author was in her chart, but I couldn't find more than her day of birth. Sometimes the positions on the day of birth are already a big part of the key to what you know of a person. Her Virgo Sun and Gemini Moon are both ruled by Mercury, the writer's planet. And as to be expected: her Mercury is prominent. There are no major aspects with Mercury. That means: Mercury calling! And translated from 'astrological' to English: communications at any possible level. The important Mercury is one of the ingredients of the recipe for a writer. Of course, you need more of those in you chart (with hour of birth) and ... you need to have at least pen and paper, to be educated, to be among those who like your style, to find an editor and to have an audience. Unless you like to write for yourself... Did you read the post about best selling authors, yet? My examples shared Mercury and aspects between the Moon, Jupiter and Pholus, what could also be the case in the chart of Marian Keyes, if she is born after 3 am and before 9 pm. Here is the link: http://astropost.blogspot.com/2011/06/best-seller-writers-charts.html

PS sending posts from an Iphone is not easy:) I resent this post to give the link and alter moticed into noticed...Maybe there are more faults to find, but remember: it is Mercury retrograding and while I write this the Moon is inconjunct Mercury, rather an inappropiate time to send a message anyway:).

Sun/Moon/Mercury midpoint combinations

Sun/Moon is the midpoint of heart and soul, right in the middle of the Sun and the Moon in your chart*). The midpoint defines what is motivating you. Writers are often motivated by Mercury, the symbol of communications, the messenger. And Mercury is often connected with Sun and Moon in their charts.

Here are a few examples of midpoint combinations:

J.K. Rowling (she wrote Harry Potter): Mercury conjunct her Sun/Moon
Lewis Carroll (Alice in Wonderland): Sun semi square Moon/Mercury
Martin Luther King: Moon semi square Sun/Mercury
Belgian author Hugo Claus: Moon semi square Sun/Mercury
Maigret: Sun square Moon/Mercury
Agatha Christie: Moon conjunct Sun/Mercury
Jean Auel: Mercury conjunct Sun/Moon

When Mercury is in hard aspect with your Sun/Moon midpoint you will be especially motivated by discussions, writing, speaking and communicating in general. When there is another combination of Sun/Moon/Mercury in your chart, you will communicate with heart and soul.

LINKS

*) For more about calculating and interpreting midpoints, use this link to Astromarkt, the site with background info for this blog. In short:
The Sun/Moon midpoint is the equavalent of (Sun + Moon)/2. Of course, to calculate this you need to use the degrees of the 360 degree circle. A Sun in the 10th degree of Taurus is at 40 degrees, a Moon in the 20th degree of Libra is in the 200th degree. The midpoint Sun/Moon of this example combination is at 120 degree (zero Leo). If Mercury is in the 1st degree of Taurus there is Sun/Moon square Mercury. (Don't use more than 2 degrees orb). Now that I write this Sun/Moon is almost square Northern Node (at midnight GT). That means that motivation comes from a group of people (family, nation, tribe or community), like 'the people' or 'clients' or 'fans'.

Also see Astromarkt, for example about Sun/Moon and AC/MC midpoint combinations. If you are more interested in Sun/Moon in synastry, go here...

Progressed Mercury and Venus returns and changing sign

When the progressed sunsign changes, lifestyle changes. But what changes when the progressed planets change sign? I checked my own Mercury and Venus in progression and this is what I found:

MERCURY RETURN
In 1971 and 1995 I had a Progressed Mercury Return. In 1981 the progressed Mercury stopped retrograding and went direct, just before the square with Saturn. I recall that year and the decission that I didn't make. I remember 1995, because that is the year that I got a teacher's license. But I don't know about 1971.
I think that Progressed Mercury conjunct Mercury doubles your interests and study results. And I think that when Mercury returned to the natal position (in 1971) I started to make my mind up, again (new ideas, new interests, new opinions). In 1995 the period of studies ended and a new period began. I remember that I couldn't read books in 1995/1996, because I had read to many of them (and to quickly) in the years before.

VENUS RETURN
I know a person who experienced a Venus return in progress (progressed Venus conjunct natal Venus). That doubled his sympathies so much!:) He started to live with his mistress and didn't divorce. So this also doubled the number of wives!

CHANGING SING
Mercury and Venus also may change sign in the progressed chart. My Venus changed sign from Sagittarius to Pisces and if I live long enough I will see Progressed Venus on Zero Aries. But, in what way has it changed my style, preferences or hobbies?  Venus progressed to Pisces in the summer of 2001 and I don't remember what exactly changed. In 1976 Venus progressed to Aquarius and I don't know what happened. It was one of those years that pass bye...

In June 2010 my Mercury changed sign to Aquarius. In 2010 my website got a new style. I don't think that I had a mind changing experience in 2010, however.

SO...
So, maybe there were subtile changes, but I can't see in what way the changing sign of Mercury or Venus had impact on my life, my preferences or my mind. Since of few years Venus is in my first house. I will ask if people noticed this beneficial influence on my presentation!:) Seriously, I think that the change of sign of the progressed Mercury and Venus simply contribute to a general picture of change (if it is there) and not much more. But if you experienced major changes, please let me know!

This month January you find a lot about progressions and the progressed chart on Astropost.

Chart of Steve Jobs and the Apple (I-phone) press conference

Today is the press conference of Apple, following the critism about the Apple I-phone 4. Here you see the chart of the conference. The Midheaven is semi square the natal Uranus of Steve Jobs, CEO and co-founder. Uranus is the symbol of nerves and news. But there is more...Transit Saturn is inconjunct his natal Mars and progressed Mercury. This is a combination for a bad news acitvity, mind breaking jobs and headaches*).. Next transit will be Saturn inconjunct his progressed Sun. It means hard times for Jobs. Three times inconjunct Saturn is a lot.
Here are the charts, links to more about Steve Jobs and more about the mentioned aspects and transits.

Mercury calling...

Twitter is a typical product of Mercury. Mercury is the planet of birds, talking, speaking, words, communications, messages, blogging, transportation and…twitter. Especially when Mercury is ‘calling’ (that is: not making major aspects in sign or orb 5 degrees) people want to talk just for the sake of talking, write just for the sake of writing and twitter just for the sake of twitter. A ‘calling’ Mercury makes it difficult to be silent or count to 10 before opening the mouth.
Examples? General McChrystal; Oriana Fallaci; someone I know who keeps you on the phone for hours, talking about nothing special…and I suppose a lot of twittering folks on Twitter.

It is not bad when your Mercury is calling. It is just that you need to send messages and inform the world about your ideas. It is just bad when you twitter or say the things that your bosses (or worse: the authorities) don’t like to hear. This week a reporter joked on Twitter about a singer and he was fired because his job was to report about the singer on a contest. He had progressed Sun inconjunct Pholus to illustrate the lost (of a job) because of shooting his own foot or biting the hand that fed him. But could he have counted to 10? He had Mercury calling! sort of a drive to tell the world what you think, like bloggers do:)

Mercury ‘ calling’ can be very helpful in sales. It is also perfect for a writer. The words won't fail you! Mercury ‘ calling’ is a prominent Mercury and one of the astrological tools for succes in communications. Mercury ' calling' is about communicating, somehow, anyhow. Mercury calling is to be preferred over Mercury-Uranus afflictions (that is when you keep joking or saying the wrong, offending or shocking things in the wrong context and in the wrong place, like Berlusconi does, or when nobody understands your irony).  Nevertheless, Mercury can call you to be the messenger whose head is chopped off. That is when you say what nobody wants to hear, just like with a Mercury-Uranus affliction.

HOW ABOUT YOU?
If your Mercury is ‘ calling’, don’t answer until you counted to 10 and write things down, read it, think it over and decide wether or not to tell the world about it. Just hum or whistle if you have to make noise:). And when you do the talking, say political correct and social things. It will be hard, but when your chart shows hard times it might be better to fight your first impulse and consider more profitable ways to use your talents (writing, singing or selling:)... Sounds easy, but try to repeat this whit your mouth shut!!@$!

The confession of Joran van der Sloot

Joran van der Sloot confessed, says the police in Peru. His progressed chart shows a combination of Mercury-Saturn and Pholus. Does this reflect an official (Saturn) self damaging (Pholus) statement (Mercury)? This combination of Mercury-Saturn and Pholus was already there in the natal chart (without hour of birth) and is repeated now.

Following the earlier messages about the birth positions of Joran van der Sloot, and the post about Van der Sloot being a subject again, here is something about his Mercury. Joran van der Sloot is a good liar (he is a poker player). Afflicted Mercuries point at the ability to vary and twist communications and mental state the hard way. (And some professions aquire a tough or flexible mentality or interest). There is a post about Mercury and lying on this blog here…

MERCURY IN BIRTH CHART
In the natal chart of Joran van der Sloot we see an afflicted Mercury exactly square Jupiter and sesquisquare Saturn. There is also a biquintile with Uranus. He can limit (Saturn), change (Uranus) or expand (Jupiter) facts or subjects of conversation. Those are the kind of qualities that a poker player needs, besides a poker face or a cap to hide your expression.

MERCURY IN THE PROGRESSED CHART: aspects combinations repeated!
In the progressed chart of Joran van der Sloot we see that Mercury moved fast. The afflicted Mercury is now exactly sesquisquare Jupiter and exactly square Saturn.
This means that the original nature of his communications are now ‘ triggered’ by progressions and that his mind has strong ups and downs now.

PHOLUS AND MERCURY
In the natal and progressed chart of Joran van der Sloot, Mercury is in aspect with Pholus, the symbol of turning points and 'shooting your own feet'. In the natal chart Mercury is sextile Pholus, but in the progressed chart there is a 105 degree minor aspect. Progressed and natal Saturn are quindecile Pholus. The Mercury-Saturn-Pholus combination of the natal chart is again active in the progressed chart. We could read the combination as the official statement of a turning point or: ' shooting your own feet with lies'.

And now, confronted with the images of the hotel door on video, Joran van der Sloot confessed.

------------------------------------------
PS His progressed Sun is trine Neptune now. See the Sun-Neptune-posts...
' Am I who I think that I am or am I who others say that I am,'
How about the effect of the 'harmonious' trine? Sometimes trines just make it easy to get isolated and lost with Neptune. It seems that he tried to sell information about the whereabouts of the death body of Natalee Holloway and that the FBI knew it. He was living in a false world of poker games, drugs and illusions.

Click 'sextile' to see more examples of the effect of harmonious aspects.

John Cleese and the taxi:Mercury-Saturn

John Cleese has to work to pay his ex-wife and that is why he was in such a hurry to get to Brussels from Oslo, that he took a cab. Because of the vulcanic dust he could not go by plane and there was no place left in the train. It was so expensive that he has to do another show, I am afraid. See ABC news... His progressed Mercury in Sagittarius is suare transit Saturn. That is blocking transportations and making it difficult to keep an appointment. There will be delay, somehow, just like in the chart of Danish Queen Margrethe (birthday today, royal guests can't come by plane).
Mercury - Saturn also produces slow answers as you can see in the post about that aspect.

I wrote about the chart of John Cleese and his expensive divorce on Astrology & Love before.
For the artist in the chart of John Cleese, see this link to Art&Astrology...

Queen Margrethe and the vulcano

Here is the chart with transits of Queen Margrethe, Queen of Denmark, who is celebrating her 70th birthday today. Many of her guest could not come to her party the easy way, by plane. That is because there was an erruption of a vulcano on Island. The dust makes is impossible to fly. So the (royal) guests arrived by train.

Whenever plans, appointments or transportations seem to become a problem related to timing, we see a Mercury-Saturn combination. Transit Saturn is now opposition the natal Mercury of the guest of honour.

Liberal Nick Clegg

The people of England have more than just two choices on May 6, election day. There is Gordon Brown, there is David Cameron and there is the winner of the debate today: Liberal Nick Clegg, born January 7, 1967, time unknown. On the day after Election day we see this:

- His progressed Sun has changed sign (a new way of living)
- Transit Jupiter is conjunct his natal Uranus and his progressed Venus
- Progressed Venus conjunct natal Uranus
- Progressed Mars square natal Jupiter
- Transit Chiron on progressed Sun

Without hour of birth these positions are only part of the story. Still, those are (mostly) good signs of sudden pleasant surprises (a nice windfall) and of success. His chart is the most postive one of three in this matter: he gains votes, I guess (or he has a very pleasant party at home:). He has already outpolled Labour once, so he is a serious candidate.

CALLING MERCURY
His ‘ calling’ Mercury enables him to communicate at any possible level and that is important for a politician. Mercury is in aspect with Jupiter/Pluto (for a great vocabulary). Maybe sometimes he says too much (Mercury-Neptune) or is not ‘ clear ‘ enough, but this definitely was not so yesterday, in the debate.

JUPITER
I think that Jupiter holds a special position in his chart (symbol of the international). He speaks 5 languages, has a Dutch mother who was born in Indonesia and a Spanish wife (he met her in Bruges). He also worked for the European Commission. That is why I would not be surprised to see the symbol of the international (and in his chart the leading planet in an open angle pattern) on one of the angles in his personal chart. However, he also has that Sagittarian Moon to express the need to be liberal and international.

Chart of d.o.b. Angie Sanclemente

Suspects often have a Mercury-Neptune combination, just like Angie Sanclemente, a beauty queen(Reina del Café) who is on the most wanted list for drug traffic. Neptune is now in the 28th degree of Aquarius, exactly inconjunct her progressed Mercury and square natal Mercury.

There is another reason why the chart of her day of birth is such a good example of the possible real life events and issues and how they are reflected in the positions at birth, by transit and progression: the Saturn-Uranus combination.
Later this year transit Saturn will be square her progressed Sun and trine natal Sun. Progressed Sun is also sesquisquare Uranus, reflecting the upheaval. Together Saturn and Uranus are the issue of limited freedom. She is on the run now, trying to break free. Why do this transit and that progression fit so perfectly to the situation, or should I say: have such a dramatic effect? It is because this combination is resonating the existing combination in the natal chart (Sun square Saturn and quindecile Uranus).

This is the chart of her day of birth.

Poker and the chart of Boris Becker

No signs of shock in the chart of Boris Becker and that is correct: he had already left the European Poker Tour meeting in Berlin, when robbers entered and forced the employees to hand over a sum of approximately € 800.000 euro. Former tennis champion Becker is a poker player. Playing poker requires a poker face. One needs to be able to show no emotions (and lie a bit). He can!
He has a golden yod of Mercury, Mars and Saturn. Mercury and Saturn - on the IC- don't make major aspects in sign or orb 5 degrees. They are 'calling', prominent, manifesting at any possible level. The biquintile between them is reflecting a creative ability to limit fact and communications at any level.
Boris Becker is motivated by winning and by profit (Sun/Moon =Pluto) and the planet of challenges, influence, money and power is semi square the midpoint AC/MC, too. Mars (the planet of sport and the dispositor of the house of games) is trine this crucial Pluto, making it easy for his drive to win, in tennis or in poker games.

Holloway case: Joran van der Sloot confesses (again...)

On this blog you find a lot about the case of the disappearance of Natalee Holloway (see the positions on her day of birth, transits and progressions for today) and about the person who might have been the last one to have seen her alive: Joran van der Sloot.. A few days ago he appeared on Dutch television with another confession, this time he even showed emotions. But, good to realise this, the confession had been offered to television last year, before the father of Van der Sloot died and has been questioned. He never mentioned a specific place where he left the body of Natalee. Follow the link to see more about his chart (no hob).

Remember? Natalee made a school trip to a tropical island and spent the night with two local boys. She never came back.
It is a story about the effect of Mars-Pluto. The combination of these planets keeps coming back in the natal positions, the synastry, progressions and transits of the day of the disappearance and ...of today.

Natalee Holloway had Mars tightly square Pluto in the natal chart.
Her Mars afflicted the Pluto of Joran, who has Uranus semi square Pluto (and a very wide Mars-Pluto conflict, with both planets in aspect with Saturn).

DATE
When she disappeared Natalee had transit Mars semi square Mars and sesquisquare Pluto, activating the dangerous Mars-Pluto connection in her natal chart.
Joran had Pluto conjunct Uranus that day and sesquisquare Venus. He also had Mars sesqui square Pluto.

So coincidentally they had the same sort of transit on the same day, added with the aspects that they already shared;**) the combination of danger.

COME BACK OF MARS-PLUTO
The progressed Sun of Natalee is now square progressed Mars and progressed Mars is quindecile (165 d.) Pluto.

Joran has the same kind of combination now: Transit Pluto trine progressed Sun and sesquisquare natal Pluto.

The same aspect combination that is dominating the relationship and the date is being highlighted again this year. See the charts.
Maybe this aspect offers a challenging chance to change his lifestyle and come up with the truth. It would be a consolation for her family to know where her remains are. Up to know there is little evidence that Joran van der Sloot feels sorry for the family.

RELATED
All about the case, including the chart of day of birth of the father…
see this link

**) The Kennedy's shared a Mars-Pluto aspect and can we see them in another perspective than that of the violent death of one of them? There are also Mars-Pluto combinations in some famous cases of abuse. And I know of more than one couple with this synastry, who didn't die or vanish, just had painful and intense arguments. Mars-Pluto is about the use and abuse of force, violence, strategy, influence and politics. Mars-Pluto relates values and challenges to aggression, sex and activism. It depends on the rest of the chart, the circumstances and situation, gender, genes and 'level' in what way the Mars-Pluto aspect will make the use of power an issue in the life of the individual(s) involved. In general Mars-Pluto is reflecting the drive to win and dominate and the effects of exploiting this energy. See the label for more. Here you read what I wrote on Astromarkt about sharing Mars-Pluto (both having an aspect between Mars and Pluto):
Mars-Pluto: could be destructive as it is about using power and force. In a team of sportsmen this aspect can empower the joined forces.

PS I could add something about the combination of P Sun trine Neptune and transit Pluto (Joran van der Sloot's chart) and I didn't, in order not to complicate the post. But I like to mention it anyway. There is more on this blog about Neptune-Pluto (see the labels) , and here is something in addition:
I think that the key to the combination might be the value (Pluto) of secrets (Neptune). Authors of detectives, detectives, magicians and spies (and maybe also poker players?) have prominent Neptune-Pluto combinations in their charts. When the combination appears by transit or progression you might be forced to be discrete, to keep a secret or ...reveal it at a certain price only. It is just the theme (the value of secrets and mysteries) that is important. How you handle it depends on character, situation and conditions. But, it is always about knowing what the others don't know...yet.

Wrong ideas and silly comments (Mercury-Uranus)

President Silvio Berlusconi has a Mercury-Uranus conflict in his natal chart and that is why we know him as a man who says the most controversial things. Another Italian, Beppe Bigazzi has been suspended from 'Ready Steady Cook' earlier this month. That was because this top food writer recommended cat meat and said that he ate it quite often...At least, that is what the audience think that they heard him say. He says that he was explaining that cat meat was eaten in Italy in the 1930-1940's.

Here above is the chart of the day of birth, with progression and transits. Transit Uranus is now exactly conjunct his progressed Mercury. And in the natal chart he has Mercury square Uranus. That explains, doesn't it? With a Mercury-Uranus conflict eccentric, silly or controversial ideas sometimes pop up just like that...

Chart of Rajendra Pachauri (IPCC)

When Jupiter is in aspect with Saturn, you are to expect 'ups and downs', slow (but steady) growing careers and hierarchy might be an issue. Mr. Pachauri, who joined Al Gore in winning the Nobel Prize for the global warming story is now the object of controversy, because of the mistakes about the glaciers in the Himalaya and because he has written a romantic novel that increases the temperature just by reading it:).

TALENT
There is no known hour of birth, but...it is easy to see the man of controversies (Sun exactly square Uranus) and the fact that communications (and writing) are part of the 'ups and downs': Mercury is square Jupiter and Saturn.
Is he an artistic talent? With Moon in Pisces, Venus quintile Neptune and Moon probably opposition Neptune, I'd guess so. I also like his Venus quintile Quaoar, reflecting the talent to creatively shape new worlds and new concepts.

PLUTO
Pluto (the symbol of strategy, politics, power, influence, money and potential) is the first outer planet rising before his natal Sun and that means that his orientation is in the Plutonic field. Noel Tyl writes that Pluto oriental is the symbol of the importance of knowing the right kind of folks. Pluto doesn't make any aspect in sign or orb 5 degrees. That is an important reflection of power and knowing people - networking - at any possible level. Mr. Pachauri knows the most important opinion makers in the world.

About two years ago he had a life changing aspect: progressed Sun squares his important Pluto! That is when he got the Nobel Prize, together with Al Gore, whose Pluto is conjunct the Mercury of Pachauri (and that means influence on his ideas). The influence is mutual: Pachauri's Pluto is conjunct the Ascendant of Al Gore.

CHARTS

Here above is the chart of the day of birth of Rajendra Pachauri, born in Nainital, India on August 20, 1940. He is Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering and Economics and just like with Al Gore, his Mercury is in conflict with Saturn. In the article about sharing aspects on Astromarkt I wrote:
Mercury and Saturn: sharing the same hard convictions, being serious about that. With hard aspects you are both mistrusting the world outside and that is what joins you.

Jon Favreau, the President's speech writer

Obama is a gifted speaker (see the post about his oratory skills. What he says is written by a team of speech writers. The team leader is Jonathan Favreau, born June 2, 1981. He also worked for John Kerry. I guess that he was born in the afternoon or night, with the Moon before the Sun, both in Gemini, the sign of communications.

Jon Favreau has 60% of the placements in air signs, the signs of communication. There are three very tight aspects between the planets in his chart (two of them with the planet of communications):
Mercury square Saturn (business communications)
Mercury biquintile Uranus (creative findings)
Mars biquintile Pluto: a creative way to fight in politics, using influence.

The combination of Mercury, Saturn and Uranus is the combination of restricted freedom of speech and the biquintile between Mercury and Uranus refers to a creative way to say things the different way or to express uncommon opinions. Mercury square Saturn is the aspect of 'slow answers'. I quote myself:
There are several ways of lying. You can simple not give any info, you can lie as a habit and you can twist the facts. (...) Most of them are specialized educated persons who are aware of the impact of what they say or of the responsibility that they have as an official spokesman. That is why they are careful and that is why they like to limit themselves to established facts only. (...) You just don't tell it all, sometimes because it is not official, or allowed or decent.

Aren't those aspects the essentials of what he is doing: using influence in a creative way, special kind of writing within limitations (like protocol, political restrictions)?

AFTER THIS...
Jon Favreau announced that his work for Obama will be the final political job as far as he is concerned. He thinks of starting a creative writing career, writing screenplays, and yes, he can! He has Mercury square Jupiter (orb 3 d) AND biquintile Uranus. This combination is for inventive writing. Mercury is semi quintile Mars, for creative discussions. He can write very fast, too, and quickly (Mars) change (Uranus) subject (Mercury).
With Venus in Gemini opposition Neptune there is the question of artistic talent. Venus is in aspect with Jupiter AND Neptune and that promises a lot of devoted fans. He won't have problems to find an editor.

The positions in the chart are unknown, but perhaps Mercury and/or Jupiter have an important position on the angles. That would add even more success to the other nice combinations of aspect on the day that he was born: Venus and Mars in aspect with Jupiter and Pluto. That is a combination for a successful passion.
There is only one 'but' and that is Venus inconjunct Uranus. That aspect might refer to misbalanced sense of rhythm and losing balance when he falls in love. For a speech writer the aspect might mean that he gets carried away by the love of change, and that happens to be a word that he uses quite often:)! Just like President Obama, Jon Favreau has an unaspected Quaoar, so that creating a new world is an important mission in the lives of both.

MATCH WITH OBAMA
When two people cooperate, it is important to have a good match. That is a fact in the relationship between Obama and Favreau.
Their Suns match and that is important for sharing a vision.
Their Moons are in the same sign (often friends have the moon in the same sign!)
His Jupiter is trine his so that their convictions are in line.

But their Venus and Mercury don't match at all. They couldn't be lovers and they might not share the same ideas always. The Saturn of Favreau is exactly trine the Moon of Obama and that is perhaps a statement for shaping the emotions of the president.

SATURN AND URANUS FOR PROTOCOL
Obama's Saturn and Uranus are related to the Venus of Favreau. I wonder what that is. The natal Sun of Michelle is also in hard aspect with her husband's Saturn and Uranus. The protocol (another form of limited freedom and independence) seems to be of importance. Barack Obama has Saturn ruler 12 inconjunct Uranus ruler 1. More about that aspect in the chart of the President here.... For all posts about Obama, see the label

Could Stieg Larsson write?

Stieg Larsson (real name: Karl Stig-Erland Larsson) is a famous Swedish author. He wrote best sellers like 'The girl who played with fire'. He died five years ago and his long time partner, Eva Gabrielsson, was left without a penny. She now wants part of the millions saying that she did more than just editing his detectives...Now a journalist (Anders Hellberg) says that Stieg Larsson couldn't even write! So the question is: what does his chart say about writing talents?
(For more background info about the controversy, see the links below.)

WHAT DOES HIS CHART TELL US?
There is no hour of birth for Stieg Larsson. Here you see the chart with the positions at noon on his birthday and the transits for the day that he died with transit Saturn exactly inconjunct Mars ('unbalancing end of energy, with a lost involved'). There were a few calling planets in his birth chart: Mercury, Venus and Jupiter. This trio is the combination of having a talent for communications. He was a communicator at any possible level (Mercury without major aspects), he was talented (Venus calling) and he was a success (Jupiter). There are 2 quintiles on his day of birth: Sun quintile Saturn and Venus quintile Uranus. Quintiles promise creativity in a certain field. His chart shows possible talent and success. The isolated Moon in Pisces with the ' calling' Venus in Libra is part of the pattern of artistic talent that is so common in the charts of authors, artists and musicians (as you can see on Art&Astrology).

It is also clear that he would write detectives or mysterious books. The Sun is sextile Neptune and conjunct Pluto. The combination with Neptune and Pluto is the combination of the 'silent force' and is often seen in the charts of discrete people who deal with secrets and mysteries, like Agatha Christie. I also like to point at the combination of Sun quintile Saturn and sextile Neptune (illnesses) and Sun quintile Saturn in combination with the conjunction with Pluto (the 'die hard'). The effect of the combination don't only show up in the nature of his books, they also match with the way he lived (on a secret address because of death threads coming from ultra right extremists; Larsson was a communist.).
The first planet rising before his Sun is Mercury, 'calling'. Next is Uranus. He was a journalist first, communicating news items. Later he started writing thrillers (very Uranian).

NOT A WRITER?
Maybe the syntax really was mad and the language as bad as Dagens Nyheter journalist Anders Hellberg says on Lesley Riddoch's site. Maybe it is true that Larsson asked him to have 'a look 'at what he wrote, because he was a weak writer. And maybe it was his partner who did most of the writing. But then, how did he manage to become a famous and wealthy author? Was he so good at delegating? Mercury is semi sesquisquare Neptune in his natal chart. It is a combination of planets that seems to be part of suspicion and rumours. It is also the combination of miscommunications (weak - Neptune - writing - Mercury-). Also the Sun is quintile Saturn. That is the combination for a creative manager, someone who is creative in being the one in charge. The minor aspects in his chart show us a man with fantasy who might communicate (write and speak) at any possible level, with a frustrating 'mist' around his words. He was successful in finding editors. Jupiter is 'calling' and Jupiter is the planet of the helpers and...editors.

SO...
His critics say that he was good at research and a bad writer. Perhaps that is true. But he was also a creative person with great ideas (Mercury and Jupiter 'calling') and he managed to earn a lot of money (Jupiter semi quintile Pluto) with HIS name on the cover. The chart of the day of his birth shows the potential of a creative writer or at least a messenger with talents.

Charts don't judge. Charts show potentials. Charts also show controversies. The chart of the day of his birth shows the potential of a creative writer, someone with great ideas or at least a messenger with talents. It's also the chart of a creative manager and of someone who doesn't write or speak clearly. I would have loved to have his hour of birth and to know the day of birth of his partner Eva Gabrielsson to see how they cooperated and matched. It is an interesting mystery...

PS
Now that there is a movie based on one of his books (see this link: http://www.stieglarsson.com/the-movies) and his partner is demanding her part of the millions, transit Uranus is inconjunct his Sun, Pluto and Neptune. There is a lot of upheavel in Sweden about the position of Larsson's 'widdow' and there is even a site that asks you to donate for her.
*) (I wonder why she didn't ask her lover to acknowledge her as a co-writer when he lived? And why she didn't ask for an arrangement in his will? Well, too late now...)

Passion in the spotlight: P Sun conjunct Mars square Venus

Scott Ritter, famous anti-war UN inspector in Iraq, is a suspect now. A so called 15 year old on the web was in fact the police... There are a few transits, progressions and natal aspects in line with the events. They are reflecting: spotlight on intense passion and unbalancing suspicion for now, even without hour of birth.

1. His progressed Sun is conjunct Mars in Virgo (the Mars that likes to keep it clean, neat and like a virgin) and square Venus in Gemini (the Venus that prefers 'youth').
The progression of the Sun shows us where the attention is in a certain period of life. The Sun now sheds a light over his passions (Venus-Mars). In fact, the progression brings his passions into the spotlights! From the police's point of view: his passions (Venus-Mars) drew their attention (Sun).

The natal chart has Venus square Mars and both are afflicted by Pluto: that is reflecting intense and challenging passions, probably causing problems. Also Mars conjunct Pluto is an aspect that is strongly related to the use and abuse of power, influence, money, politics and force. Mars-Pluto in the chart of this man might be related to his political fight against war, too. The combination of Mars and Pluto gives an enormous energy and drive. Ebertin related Mars-Pluto afflictions to 'victims of war'. It is also a combination for making political enemies. There is always more than one way to see the effect of a person's aspect...The same drive can be used in various ways. For more about Mars and Pluto, see Astromarkt...

2. Transit Neptune is inconjunct his progressed Mercury.
Mercury-Neptune combinations often pop-up in cases of suspicion and in the charts of suspects. And I would like to add: in case of gossip going around. Famous example: Friedman case.
I wrote about Mercury-Neptune before in a post about lies and Mercury's role:
(...)Sometimes people with a prominent Mercury-Neptune combination in their charts become the victim of false information or others simply don't believe what they are saying because it sounds like if the person is inventing it (thinking too long, known for having a fantasy etc....).

3. There is a combination of 'restricted freedom' in the natal chart: Sun opposition Saturn and semi sextile Uranus, reflecting a possible period in jail or limitations as he sees them.
