The King in the chart of Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands

The chart of the new King of the Netherlands has some interesting indications for his present position.  Charts don't make kings. But:
- Sun/Moon midpoint, for example, is conjunct the royal star Regulus.
- Midheaven is in Leo.
- Saturn doesn't make any major aspect in sign or orb 5 degrees. This Saturn is 'calling' for duty and responsibility and management.
- The Sun is on the Descendant, in a crucial position. The importance of the Sun refers to leadership. And he is also a true member of the family: he has this important Sun binovile the elevated Jupiter. Jupiter's color is orange:). Most members of the family have a Sun-Jupiter combination. It is the aspect of the privileged person with lots of self confidence.
So for some reason he was equipped to do the job.

Here is the chart with transits and progressions for last April 30, the day that he became king.

On the day that he started the new period in life, there were indications of change.
1. The most exact aspect is the progressed Mars quatronovile natal Sun, a sort of a statement of rejoicing the job.
2. Transit Saturn conjunct the Ascendant usually isn't seen as a nice aspect. There is a heavy load to carry and it might just have been that robe;). As Saturn is 'calling' in the natal chart, this transit is indicating a moment of 'coming out' for ambitions. He was under scrutiny but as the day was a perfectly organized day and he didn't make mistakes (on the contrary), this transit of Saturn was like the present that Saturn gives when he leaves a house (the 12th, in this case).
3. The change is visualized by means of Uranus (symbol of change) and Pholus (symbol of a turning point). There are 4 aspects:
a. Transit Uranus trine Progressed Ascendant and on his way to an aspect with Midheaven, soon.
b. Transit Pholus is trine Midheaven and opposite the Sun.
There is clearly a turning point and change in life style, position and … name.

How long will you be king, asked his daughter. With Saturn sesquisquare Midheaven we may expect that he steps back, just like his mother did for him. But not now...:)

Astrology of Alfred Dreyfus' case

In some cases 'good' and 'fortunate' aspects or ' benefics' like Jupiter don't seem to help. Or do they?
I found the case of Alfred Dreyfus (October 9, 1859), whose worst and better days were reflected by a variety of aspects.  Those aspects don't seem to give a simple and clear answer to the question: what happened and was it nice? After studying the astrology case of Dreyfus, I think that :
a. transits and progressions of/with prominent natal planets are more important than other transits and progressions
b. trines and Jupiter are not always beneficial at first sight (but they are, given the circumstances)

Join me in the study!

DREYFUS CASE
It was in the 19th century in France when Alfred Dreyfus was accused of treason. In fact he had been framed. It was easier to blame him, because of Anti-Semitic sentiments (Dreyfus was Jewish).

Here is the chart with transits and progressions of the day of the arrest:

There is transit Neptune trine the Sun and Transit Jupiter opposition progressed Midheaven with transit Uranus inconjunct Progressed Ascendant on the day of his arrest. A trine, Jupiter and that inconjunct Uranus... It looks as if the latter was the most important. He lost his freedom and it took 7 years to be freed of all charges. How did the trines and Jupiter 'help'? He was supported by Emile Zola who started an international campaign. Zola's Jupiter was in hard aspect with Dreyfus' midpoint Sun/Moon. Dreyfus' Mercury was opposition the Sun of Zola, who set the spotlights on his case. They shared a Sun-Neptune aspect (Zola the sextile, Dreyfus the quatronovile).

NATAL CHART
His chart corresponds with what we know about him.
a. He was a soldier.  We see that possibility in the positions of Mars and Saturn.
Mars rises before the Sun for orientation on arms, activism, action and energy. Before Mars is Saturn and Saturn is 'calling' (duty, responsibility and hierarchy at any possible level). The combination of Mars and Saturn is the combination of discipline (and being disciplined).
b. He lost his freedom.
Both Saturn and Uranus don't make major aspects in sign or orb 5 degrees.  As these planets are what I name 'calling', the issue of 'breaking free' and 'restricted freedom' will be demonstrated at any possible level, somehow and anyhow.
c. Commotion and upheaval were definitely part of his career (Uranus-MC), but on the other hand he also apparently was an outsider (Uranus) among the officers.
d. In my opinion a distance of 127.5 degrees between objects in the chart, is an important distance. In this chart that is the distance between Sun and Uranus. The Sun-Uranus combination is nice for an individualist, but in a group it is often difficult not to become 'the outsider'.
e. Sun is quatronovile Neptune.
f. Mercury is quatronovile Neptune, too! There are many cases of Mercury-Neptune accusations on this blog. See the links.

A quatronovile is 4x a novile and 160 degrees. A trine is 3x40 degrees. Noviles are supposed to be 'harmonious' aspects. I think that harmonious aspects refer to smooth relationships between objects in the chart.

OCTOBER 15 1894: arrest
1. Sun-Neptune
As quatronoviles are 4x40 and trines are 3x40 they are suppused to be 'friendly', 'easy' or 'harmonic'. Use the labels to find examples of the contrary! Trine and noviles, sextiles and binoviles or quatronoviles make it easy to relate one planet to another, or in this case: the Sun and Neptune. It makes it easy to be seen (Sun) in a diffuse light (Neptune). This can be done as a hero or an angel. It can also be done the negative way.
That happened when transit Neptune was trine his natal Sun. It was easy to place him in a negative light. This transit resonated the 'sound' of Sun quatronovile Neptune. He was being framed with transit Neptune trine Sun.
2. Progressed Ascendant inconjunct transit Uranus
Inconjunct (loss) Uranus (freedom).
3. Progressed Midheaven opposition Jupiter (is this fair? that is the question of opposition Jupiter)
Jupiter symbolizes support. He got support. Emile Zola even risked prison for him! Zola's Jupiter is semi square the midpoint Sun/Moon of Dreyfus and that helps!

Maybe, if there was not Jupiter-Midheaven things had been worse for Dreyfus and he would have been convicted without anyone asking questions. And maybe even the trine of Neptune helped:an idealist and artist voluntarily helped him. Neptune, at best, is the symbol of idealism, art, belief and all that we do without gain.
Remember that Uranus is 'calling' in the natal chart! That increases the importance of transits of Uranus.

SEPTEMBER 19, 1899
He was pardonned and released out of prison on September 19, 1899. It is nice for the case of astrology that that was the day that transit Uranus was exactly conjunct his Midheaven. He got his freedom back, conditions changed and of course he was in a nervous state. The transit of Uranus was so important for Dreyfus because in the natal chart Uranus is opposition Midheaven. It means that something that is already an issue in life, is being activated.

JULY 13, 1902: free of all charges
Watch the trine of transit Jupiter with natal Sun! That is a classical happy transit. This transit was leading! You see, there is also transit Pholus inconjunct Progressed MC, symbolizing a turning point in the development of the career, with a loss involved. He could return to the army, the place where he had been framed. (Pholus was in hard aspect with transit Node and transit Chiron). What he lost were more than 7 years of his life, spent in very nasty conditions. The pain is illustrated by transit Mars sesquisquare Midheaven. But Jupiter ruled!

SO

When he got back all that he lost, transit Jupiter was trine the Sun. Jupiter rules the 10th house.
When he was arrested there was P MC opposite Jupiter, so P IC conjunct Jupiter.

When he was arrested, there was Neptune trine Sun.
In the end - free at last, cleared of all charges - he had the confusing transit of Neptune opposition Sun/Moon midpoint. He got the rank of Major later, but his health had suffered because of the years in prison.

Mars quindecile Pluto: obsessive drive for power

In 2010 I wrote about Ahmadinejad (Iran) and Mars quindecile Pluto in his chart. Today I had a look at the natal positions of Elba Esther Gordillo, the Mexican union leader who has been arrested under suspicion of fraud. They say that she used part of the money for plastic surgery. Here is the picture:

Her nickname is "La Maestra" and on the internet she is accused of "brujeria" (witchcraft and that included: watching her natal chart:)!

I wondered how an ordinary woman in Mexico could become so powerfull without a Mars-Pluto 'injection'. There is no major aspect between Mars and Pluto in her chart. But then I noticed the quindecile!

The 165 degree aspect that Noel Tyl (see his essay) called " quindecile" is the aspect of obsession and intensity. I first read about this aspect in Tyl's books and since then I found several good examples of how this aspect manifests itself (use this link).
The Mars-Pluto combination goes for winning and authority, sometimes by means of using violence, money power or other forces and strengths.
Connect these three and what you get is an overdrive of seeking power. Especially when Mars and/or Pluto have a prominent position, like in the chart of Gordillo (Mars rising before the Sun).

There is more in the chart than Mars quindecile Pluto. I see the "calling" Sun for leadership and drawing attention (being a star). Mars rising before the Sun focusses on action (sports, military), activism and on men or on what men use to do. Gordillo was born with a more than average drive and energy. Competition, taking the lead and dominating... That is Gordillo. And maybe Venus conjunct Eris makes discord and disagreement fun...

Mars makes another minor aspect: Mars is quatronovile Saturn. The 160 degree aspect is 4x novile and the meaning of the novile is 'to rejoyce'. Mars-Saturn is the combination of discipline and hard measures. Together, Mars quindecile Pluto and quatronovile Saturn, there is the hidden combinaton of unnatural death as an issue or a general theme in life. (Read the posts, see the links).

On the day that 'La Maestra' was born, the astrological positions didn't show a shy and weak person, on the contrary. I doubt that witchcraft was needed to make her a leading figure! But I am convinced that it took plastic surgery to shape her face. Just like in the charts of 'beauties' there are aspects between Venus, Saturn and Pluto. There is so much more to see in the chart of February 6, 1945! It was also the day of birth of Bob Marley (although Astrodienst gives an XX rated chart). He survived a murder attempt and died rather young (part of the issue of Mars-Saturn-Pluto?)

Here is the chart of her day of birth:
PS it is almost 5 years ago now that I was in Lisbon for a workshop with Noel Tyl, now. How time flies...

Astrology of Pope Benedict stepping back

There have been a number of posts about Pope Benedict on this blog and they were often wrapped in a blanket of worries about his condition, but...as a true 'Saturn calling' *) he remained on his post. Now he steps back and even though he is 85, the head of a world church in trouble and apparently not healthy, people are surprised. They are surprised because popes tend to be pope until they die. Watch the chart, progressions and transits, consider the man and his situation, and see that there is reason enough to have some rest.

1. The progressed chart has Pluto on the Ascendant. Pluto rules the 8th natal house of life and death and is in the 4th of endings. Pluto on the Ascendant describes stressful situations and pressure (though he says there was no pressure on him when he decided to stop on February 28). Something transforms when Pluto is on one of the corners of the chart.

2. Transit Uranus square progressed Mars (important because of the opposition with Midheaven in the natal chart) means change, too.

3. Progressed Sun quintile Progressed Chiron might be creative in a healing process or point at the creative attendance of doctors.

4. On February 28 transit Jupiter is novile Progressed Sun for rejoycing that life gets better.

5. The most negative aspect is transit Neptunus quindecile progressed IC. It focusses on a weak basis.

6. Transit Pholus square midpoint AC/MC mirrors the crucial point of no return.

Today he surprised (transit Uranus) the world by breaking (Saturn) free (Uranus).

Astrology chart Princess Märtha Louise of Norway

This post is about the special position of Sedna in the chart of Princess Märtha Louise of Norway. Sedna is a deity who was given up or sacrificed by her father in order to keep the sea monsters calm. Sedna is a planetoide, not a dwarf planet, because it is not certain if her shape is round like the shapes of planets. She is now positioned at 22d30 Taurus. In the chart of the Princess, Sedna is opposition her Moon and square her Ascendant.
(Astrology Weekly gives an official time of birth of 17.07 LMT for Princess Märtha Louise of Norway, born September 22, 1971 in Oslo. )

Why a post about the Norwegian Princess? She is hot news today because of the publication of her book about 'talking with spirits'. See the news...Before she wrote this book, she used to run classes for talking with angels. Religious persons in her country are upset. That is perfectly mirrored by the transit of the planet of upheavel, Uranus, opposition her natal Sun.
All bad things come in three: transit Saturn is opposition the progressed Moon and conjunct natal Venus. That is perhaps limiting joy. She has Jupiter opposition progressed Sun soon for a success with question marks.

Continue for the  chart and for more about Sedna, the myth and the possible modern reflection of Sedna. The controversy about the Princess's business caused the King to make her less royal...

Chart of judge Baltasar Garzón

In Spain a judge has to appear before court because ultra right groups like Manos Limpios (Clean hands) have accused him.

Judge Baltasar Garzón is leading the corruption inquiry named 'Gürtel'. The accused are linked to the main right wing Partido Popular. Now ultra right admirors of General Franco (the late dictator) accuse Garzón of twisting the rules of law and overreaching powers when he investigated the case of dissappeared victimes in the period of Franco (the civil war). He is been accused of ignoring the Ley de Amnistía of 1977 (a law that permitted the crimes to be left unpunished). This is a very delicate matter in Spain (as in Argentina).
The killers of unarmed enemies have never been on trial. But Garzón: he has to face the judge. "No entiendo nada. ¿Al final va a volver a ganar Falange?" (I don't understand this. Is the Falange going to win in the end?) There is a lot of upheaval in the media, mirrored by Uranus square his Sun. See El País for more and for pictures...

OBSERVING THE TRANSITS
There are a few transits and progressions of interest:

- Transit Uranus square progressed Sun (upheaval, news about you)
- Transit Saturn retrograding towards a square with progressed Sun
- Progressed Midheaven will be square Saturn again this year
- Progressed Ascendant is inconjunct the natal Sun
- Progressed Ascendant trine natal Uranus
(and now we see the combination of restricted freedom, being stopped and the fight against it)

- Transit Jupiter inconjunct Vesta
(perhaps for the overload of dedication that is not in his favour now?)

- And a progressed Sun moving to the final degrees of the sign to indicate that his lifestyle will shortly change
- Progressed Sun trine natal Jupiter (for being supported and ... judged)
- Progressed Sun will be trine Pluto within one year
(this is the combination of success and winning or being valued)

- Transit Pluto is conjunct progressed Mercury (mental stress)

- Progressed Moon trine Neptune and conjunct transit Neptune (hope and sentimental or negative feelings, the influence of the media).

It is not surprising to see so many reflections of an important event like this.

NATAL CHART
Garzón has a 'calling' Moon, Mercury and Mars, with Neptune rising before the Sun and in aspect with AC/MC. This is not the combination of being without bias. He is a compassionate idealist fighting for a cause. He also tried to 'get' Berlusconi, Henry Kissinger, ETA and army officers in Argentina who tortured students to death. This dedication is also the reason why he makes enemies (but perhaps he likes to fight them: Mars novile Pluto).

The political and strong willed sign Scorpio is on Midheaven, with Jupiter and Pluto quintile the MC, mirroring creative successes. With Sun square Uranus he is different than the rest, also in his conservative branche (inter non pares). With Mercury quintile Uranus his ideas are also considered to be controversial, though he has creative ways to express them. He may be right, but in his society he is rather controversial. Moon inconjunct Uranus also gives the need to be different and sometimes that need causes so much controversy that the goals won't be reached.
See Cafe Astrology about Moon inconjunct Uranus...

Garzón is also dedicated (Vesta) and fanatic (Scorpio). The symbol of decidation, Vesta, doesn't make any aspect and transit Vesta is now on top of his chart, trying him. Read 'Una injusticia en España'(Injustice in Spain) - easy to be translated by Google - here.

His case reminds me of Simon Wiesenthal. He also had a 'calling' Moon in the 2nd degree of a sign (105 degrees from Uranus), Pluto in aspect with Midheaven and Mars inconjunct Pluto to illustrate the strongly driven personality, fighting for justice for victims of war. One of the notes of Reinhold Eberting regarding the Mars-Pluto combination is 'victims of war'. The issue is important in the lives of Garzón and Wiesenthal. For more about the combination of Mars and Pluto, see the label.
