Saturn returns remind you of your age and responsibilities. Everybody 'ages' at about age 30 and at about age 60 and 90 when Transit Saturn hits your natal Saturn. But what happens when your Progressed Saturn is retrograding and gets back to the natal starting point (a progressed Saturn return)? Progressed Saturn returns are rare and are rarely discussed. I wrote about it a few months ago, when I approached my progressed Saturn return (see that post: http://astropost.blogspot.nl/2011/01/progressed-saturn-return-p-saturn.html ). It is Saturn time for me now! And I know it. In my situation it is obvious: it is about the responsibility of organizing care and taking care of my mother.
In the building where she lives is an institution for the elderly, too. Yesterday I was in the elevator with an old shrieking lady who apparently didn't make it to the toilet and who didn't know where she was or went until I asked her: 'Where do you live' and she said: 'The third floor'. It is depressing (and I really wonder how the people who work there are able to deal with the astonishing picture of what might happen to all of us one day). I hope that I die before I get THAT old or that it will get that bad for my mother. One generation...There is so little time left. That is the pressure (or say: the kick in the ass) that is being reflected by transits of Saturn. It litteraly makes me feel sick.
Saturn conjunct Saturn is a memento mori, reminding you not to waste time.
Saturn is for depressing things and the Moon is for the mood. Saturn is for parents or parenthood and the Moon is for care.
I am happy to see Venus on my IC today (that is when I'll have my hair done and I intend to buy a new perfume - maybe Sun, Moon and Stars:), starting a few days off. But I won't be off for long. Saturn on Saturn is double duties! Or at least: it feels that way. Now I wonder: am I wasting time?

Progressed Saturn is exactly conjunct my natal Saturn today, while progressed Moon is square my natal Moon. You know about my Moon trine Saturn (feelings of responsibility and duty) and my family's Moon-Saturn (see the Moon-Saturn post)? Perhaps that is why these progressions join to hit me harder than other persons' progressed Saturns do?
BTW When transit Saturn is back to square my Mars, transit Saturn will be on my mother's Midheaven (after begin square her Sun, again). That makes me think that there is more to come... and more to be done.

With Saturn on top (of the age pyramid)
When Saturn is important in your chart, you might end up on top (of the age pyramide...)
It is not always a pleasure to have an important Saturn in your chart. The ancient astrologers already must have known about the icy rings that surround Saturn as a barrier. How else could they have qualified this planet as reserved (cool) and as the symbol of restrictions? Sometimes Saturn simply drops you and the higher you climb the harder you fall.I recall the positions of the day of birth of late Amy Winehouse. She had Saturn 'calling' (no major aspects in 5 degrees orb or in sign) in Scorpio (see: http://astropost.blogspot.com/2011/07/life-of-amy-winehouse-and-astrology.html ).
Duty is calling, when Saturn is calling. The not aspected Saturn sort of demands you to be responsible, in control or ambitious, perfect even.
The 'calling' Saturn isn't the only important Saturn. There is another way for Saturn to be important in a chart. Angular Saturn's are important. The angular position of Saturn says that all things that belong to the S of Saturn are of key importance; such as dignity, position, career, status, age, duty. The third way is when Saturn rises before the Sun. That is when your orientation in life is at 'Saturn' first. The classical, managing, controlling Saturn is cautious and materialistic, prone to be sure that there is enough money for casualties and enough food for the winter.
It is lonely at the top in society. Sometimes you loose control and fall.
It is also lonely at the top of the age pyramid. Yes, an important Saturn could also help you to get old, like in the case of a 107 year old.
I have another example. A few months ago there was a documentary on local television about a 101-year old collector of donations. He was born June 3, 1911 in Rotterdam and taking good care of himself. Saturn rises before his Sun and there is no major aspect in sign.
The importance of Saturn in the charts of the above mentioned two old men might of course include the importance of solitude. When you reach such an age you might be the only one left and you might have seen your partner, friends, children and even some grand children die. That might be just as unpleasant as when Saturn means 'endings' and 'farewells' at young age. Or, when you have an important Saturn, you might enjoy the fact that you managed, on your own or with some support, to get on top of the age pyramide.

Both old men had their Suns in aspect with Jupiter and Uranus and other indications for the possibility of getting real old. See Astromarkt about aging or use the label 'old' here if you are interested in the subject.

Pretty nice example
Just like statistics astrology doesn't 'work' the other way. There are a lot of influences (gender, social level, age and more) making differences. But sometimes charts 'strike'.
Yesterday I was in a perfume store where a lady (I estimated her age around 70) was buying make-up and cream. She was well dressed, had lipstick and mascara on, a nice powdered face and...she was proud to mention her date of birth (in order to get a customer's card). I noticed that it was March 5, 1923 and decided to have a look to see how the chart corresponded with this 88 year old lady's need to look good. Her chart (below) is a pretty nice example of how astrology works sometimes:)!
Because of her Sun Pisces, Moon Libra, calling Venus and Venus-Uranus semi square she might have been a dancer when she was young (an artist perhaps).
It was just an observation and a date, but I found what I expected to find: a lady who is young at heart and who likes the world and herself to look good corresponding with more than a few indications for vitality and charm.
And I also found this picture of a magical mirror (Louvre collection) on Wiki Commons. This mirror was used in the 12th Century in Iran to 'predict the future'. Now that is forbidden in Iran...Watch the astrological signs...

- Her Venus doesn't make major aspects (like a trine or a square) in sign or orb 5 degrees (that makes it a 'calling' Venus for beauty and charm at any possible level, somehow, anyhow, because this person is looking for kindness and sympathy).
- Her Moon is in Libra for the need for beauty, charm and decoration.
- Sun conjunct Uranus and Uranus rising before the Sun: that is what I have seen more often in the charts of those who reach an old age and keep their vitality (like the pope).
- Sun in aspect with Jupiter and Uranus is one of the combinations which are frequent in the charts of the very old, too. It is a positive one!
- Sun biquintile Saturn for a creative way to live with restrictions and ...age!

Chart of Rupert Murdoch:
Rupert Murdoch is a media tycoon. The scandall with one of his papers, News of the World, is indeed news in the world, today. Uranus-Pluto-Midheaven resonates the revolution in his career. (Transit Uranus is trine Progressed Midheaven. Pluto is sesquisquare MC in his progressed chart.)
Uranus and Pluto together with MC are always causing intense nervous problems because of the dramatic change that often accompanies the combinations of Uranus and Pluto.
Now we have a sudden (Uranus) dramatic (Pluto) turn (Pholus) in his career (Midheaven) and 3 indications of change and tension, because: there is also Pluto with Pholus. Quoting Astromarkt:
"Pholus+Pluto: dramatic turning point: the prize (or the price to pay) forcing a turning point (?), the pyrrhic victory"
Interesting coincidence is, that the Pholus of News of the World (first published October 1, 1843) is in the 6th degree of Capricorn, just like the Pholus of Murdoch, so that both Murdoch and the newspaper have Pluto conjunct Pholus.
ASTRO ID
Here is the chart of birth with transits and progressions:
The chart has a few marking points: Mercury (communications), Venus, Neptune (both 'calling' for sense of art and sensitivity at any possible level), Pholus, Quaoar and Vesta (the importance of extraordinary qualities), with Saturn - parents, ambition, management - orient(ation)al: the importance of status, parents and being serious. Venus in the second house of earning money could mean a comfortable financial position and/or the love of earning money.
Here is the progressed chart with transits. I like to point at Uranus rising before the Sun here. Uranus means news, change, upheaval and technology. But Uranus rising before the Sun is also frequent in the charts of very old (and still active) persons. They are exceptional, like Murdoch is.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS
Jupiter, the multiplier, is in the 7th house of marriage and yes: he married more than once.
Uranus is inconjunct Midheaven in the natal chart: that is for a lot of upheaval with a loss involved...(News related to the career in a disproportional way). The fact that transit Uranus is now trine Progressed Midheaven illustrates that combinations in the natal chart that are being repeated by transits or progressions are very important. The news with a loss involved is now.

102 year old informal carer
Driving in my car I heard an interview on the radio today. A 102-year old, celebrating her birthday today, was being congratulated and honored for the fact that...she takes care of her 72 year old and ill daughter, since two years. She cooks, washes and cleans. She does this almost always alone. That is very special. It drew my attention and I had a look at the chart of the d.o.b. of this very old lady, who also emigrated and returned (in 1972). What of all that can be found in the chart?
OLD
There is a balanced placement of planets and light in all elements. 50% of the placements are in movable signs (so I guess she is a busy person). I was curious about Jupiter/Uranus (often found in the charts of very old persons) and yes: Sun is semi square the midpoint Jupiter/Uranus!
For more about astrology and aging, see my site Astromarkt about getting old.
There is a limited ability to read this chart, without hour of birth, but here are some more observations:
VOLUNTARY JOB: MARS TRINE NEPTUNE
I am happy to see the trine between Mars and Neptune in her chart. Her voluntary job to help her daughter seems to be in line with this aspect: driven by empathy.
MOON CALLING
Family and tradition calls when the Moon is calling (not making major aspects). That is mirroring the living with her daughter, having a niece who helps to clean the house once a week and getting back to her home land after emigration.
INTERNATIONAL: EMIGRATION AND BACK
Mrs K is an international (Jupiter is 'calling'. There are no major aspects within 5 degrees of orb). One daughter lived in Australia until her death. Another daughter came over from South Africa, the country where she lived for many years until she and her husband returned to the Netherlands in 1972 (that is when she was 63!). There were three indications for this return.
1. The progressed Sunsing changed from Leo to Virgo, with Progressed Venus square natal Sun. The first aspect in the new sign was Progressed Sun semi square Neptune.
The changing sign of the sun mirrors the changing lifestyle. Sun-Neptune is reflecting a negative period in life. Soon after the return her husband became ill and died.
2. Transit Pluto was square natal Sun in 1972 and Pluto is the symbol of transformation of life and issues of life and death.
3. Transit Ceres was conjunct natal Sun in 1972 (Ceres is the symbol of the roots)
4. Transit Uranus semi square Progressed Sun is another sign of changing times
QUATRONOVILE SUN-URANUS
BTW Notice the quatronovile between Sun (90d) and Uranus (290d). This 160d aspect symbolizes rejoicing independence and freedom. If the novile (binovile and quatronovile) represent the ninth harmonic and if the ninth harmonic is the symbol of the 'fruit of life' (where the birth chart is the 'tree'), the fruit of life of Sun-Uranus might be 'being independent'. Few people of her age managed to be as independent as she is now... Also visit: Astromarkt.net

The Pope, the Queen, Uranus and the wedding
Today Pope Benedict blesses the world, like every spring. Here are the transits and progressions of today:
The difficult transits of last year are not completely gone yet or are being repeated. Here is the chart and you may notice:
- transit Neptune sesquisquare Progressed Sun
- Saturn will be square progressed Sun in September and from November 2011 till September 2012 Saturn will be square natal Sun.
- transit Neptune is opposition Progressed Venus this year and was square natal Venus last year
Those are not easy transits (Saturn/Neptune and aspects related to the 6th and 8th house). This is especially so for a man of 84 on top of one of the most challenging hierarchical systems in the world. It is not that strange that he is still doing his job. I found rather a lot of people who became very old and had Uranus rising before the Sun, just like the Pope has (see chart above). He is not the only old leader. The British Queen just celebrated her 85th birthday. She was born with Uranus rising before the Sun, too, see her chart:
The transits and progressions are for the day of the wedding of her beloved grandson William (see the post about the interaction of their charts). The planet of prosperity is exactly square her progressed Sun on the April 29. She might feel just as blessed as the people on Saint Peter's Square today.

Walter Breuning and the astrology of aging
![]() |
| Walter Breuning in the 7th grade |
Centenarian Walter Breuning died. He was the world's oldest man. He was born in Minnesota on September 21, 1896. See the chart for noon on that day (maybe the angular positions and Ascendant would tell more, but time of birth is unknown). It is the combination that counts and it's the combination that tells us that he was a very positive and social kind of person with a helicopter view. He was not the kind of person to seek problems. The first 45 years of his life he had only harmonious progressions of the Sun (while life was hard in those days). Walter Breuning said that his recipe for getting old was taking only 2 meals a day and working as long as you can. Here is the chart.
Some of the natal positions:
- Jupiter rises before the Sun, without making major aspects for the optimist at any possible level
- Sun opposition Ceres refers to genes. He may have had perfect genes, but he didn't have children.
- Uranus doesn't make any major aspect within 5 degrees if he was born after noon. In that case, Jupiter AND Uranus are 'calling'! Jupiter-Uranus is part of the picture that I see in the chart of those who become very old. The midpoint Jupiter/Uranus related to Pholus and Nodes
- A lot trines (6) is for easy going.
- 50% of the planets and lights in air signs is for sociability and humor
The first 30 years of his life he had very easy progressions (trines with Venus and Mars, conjunction with Mercury and sextile with Jupiter, first trine was with Pluto). Only at age 45 we see Progressed Sun conjunct Saturn. That means that he could grow and progress easily (even though there could be external events with fewer harmony).
Together the positions indicate that he was a very moderate and calm person with a positive (helicopter) view. Jupiter-Uranus allows people to overlook things and be contemplative. That is in line with being secretary in an office of Freemansonry until he was 99 and Progressed Sun was semi square Pholus (meaning a frustrating turning point).
When he died there were the next transits and progressions:
T Saturn trine Pluto (the die hard combination)
T Pholus opposition Progressed Neptune
Progressed Sun trine Pholus (easy turning point)
Transit Ceres conjunct Progressed Venus (?)
Transit Mars inconjunct Progressed Jupiter
Progressed Node square Saturn (goodbye)

Uranus rising before the Sun
I found another example of Uranus rising before Sun and inner planets (Mercury and Venus). Earlier I found Uranus in that position in many charts of people who get real old and eventually become ' exceptional' enough to be news. The latest example is of a Dutch twin (brother and sister) born March 23, 1920 was in the local papers because the mayor visited them for their 91st birthday. This happens now that transit Uranus (the symbol of 'newsmaking') is square their progressed Sun. They already had an important Uranus. And at last, they are news!:)
See the article about Age and Astrology on Astromarkt. I quote:
URANUS ORIENTAL AS A STRONG INDICATION
FOR GETTING OLD
FOR GETTING OLD
We see oriental (rising before the Sun):
Mars 7 x (active, do-er, action first)
Uranus 9x (alertness, independancy, freedom first)
Jupiter 9x (being developed and positive, succes first)
Saturn 8x (serious and carefull, security first)
Neptune 2x (idealistic and romantic, a dreamer)
Pluto 1x (strategic and courageous, power first)
Mars 7 x (active, do-er, action first)
Uranus 9x (alertness, independancy, freedom first)
Jupiter 9x (being developed and positive, succes first)
Saturn 8x (serious and carefull, security first)
Neptune 2x (idealistic and romantic, a dreamer)
Pluto 1x (strategic and courageous, power first)
In Astro I.D. (my book, now sold out) I mention on page 37 that out of the first 10 people I checked in my files 4 have Jupiter oriental and another 4 Uranus. And out of the 20 persons in my files who died before the age of 40 NO ONE has Uranus oriental (Saturn 3 times, Jupiter 6 times). Jupiter oriental is not a proper indication for getting very old and neither is Saturn, though Jupiter is an optimist and Saturn is cautious. It seems rather significant that Mars is oriental in twice as much charts in the group of people who died young. Mars is related to fever, speed, accidents and aggression.
But who would expect Uranus, specifically Uranus oriental, as important in the charts of the very old?
I wonder if Uranus is adding some adrenaline that keeps them going:). Here is the chart with the positions at noon for their day of birth, the transits and the progressions.
LINKS
Of course, having Uranus orientational (rising before the Sun) doesn't mean you have to get old:). Much depends on genes, gender and a doctor in the neighbourhood. It also helps to be carefull. And it seems that Scorpio's live longer.

Scorpio lives longer
The Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf reports about the results of a German study about getting old related to the month of birth. November children have a longer life than those born in May, they say (difference is 7-11 months). That is completely in line with what I found and published on Astromarkt. I quote:
Sunsigns and Moonsigns offer some insights. It seems that the sign of Gemini is not represented in this study at all. Only Betje Comijs -Cicero might have Sun in Gemini. Odd is, that Moon in Scorpio appears only once, but Sun in Scorpio was seen often (6 times). There are more very old people in this study with Sun in Aquarius, Pisces or Libra (5 times each) than in Aries, Taurus or Virgo. Moon in Sagittarius is 7 times present and 4 times each the Moon is placed in Aquarius or Pisces.
See the study: http://www.astromarkt.net/index.php?id=128 or use the label 'old'.

Sun-Neptune, Bernhard Frank and Mark Gould
The very very old Bernhard Frank has been ' exposed' by Mark Gould, member of a Jewish family that suffered under the Nazi regime. Gould interviewed Frank, pretending to be a Neo-Nazi, and he managed to get vital information about Frank's role in the holocaust. Gould says that Frank signed the first ever order to kill Jews (that it was his idea). In the video I hear Frank say that he signed a confirmation of an order by Himmler, however? It is very unclear and you know what is the symbol of mystery and of the media? It is Neptune! Sun-Neptune in the progressed and natal chart accompany this story. With the progressed Sun in aspect with Neptune it is heard to be seen or to see clearly. This is taken from Astromarkt:
PROGRESSED SUN-NEPTUNE
Your illusions will be in the spotlights and so are your secrets. If you have Sun-Neptune in your natal chart, this moment in time might shed a light over the other side of you, the private life or the secret life (an affair, your nick name). When the progressed Sun is in a hard aspect with Neptune, you may experience a period of isolation (and inspiration, if you are an artist) or you may ‘get lost’, ‘disappear’ (in the eyes of the public) or experience gossip and slaunder. Most of the time the person involved was mistaken, hiding something vital or debilitated and and easy victim. The more harmonious aspects of Sun and Neptune make it easy for you to dream on or relax. Don’t expect this to be a fortunate aspect, always. Sometimes this aspect releases you from your identity as an individual and turns you into ‘one of the guys’, like in prison or you may have enough time available for fantasies and dreaming because you no longer have a job. Progressed Sun trine or sextile Neptune only makes it easy to hide away from reality, society or life as it it. When you are an author or an actor, this aspect helps you to empathize with the characters in your book or play. And sometimes with this aspect romance really comes into your life and if you are lucky, it won’t go away again. A hard progressed aspect tells you that your dreams are not easily to be realized. A soft progressed aspect makes your dreams come true, but you have to be careful what you dream about. Because somewhere in the closet might be a hidden nightmare. That is in particular true when the aspect is an inconjunction. That aspect often refers to health problems. Health problems take you out of society and into isolation and they reveal a weakness.
http://www.astromarkt.net/index.php?id=102
In the period of his 'friendship' with Mark Gould the progressed Sun of Frank was square Neptune and that seems a perfect description of the aspect: being seen in a negative light, a double-life, a masquerade, fraud and mist around you...etc. Gossip and bad press accompany this aspect…With Sun conjunct Neptune in the natal chart, the effect of the progression was stronger than strong...
On Astromarkt you may also read that 50% of the very old persons had a Sun-Neptune-aspect in the natal chart (see links below). There is no hour of birth, so the chart shows only part of the picture. BTW, Jupiter/Uranus is opposition his natal Sun. This 'helicopter view' combination is found in the charts of astronauts, astrologers, modern popes and winners of the lotery. I also found it with some frequence in the charts of those who become very old.
MORE NATAL CHART
Bernhard Frank's natal chart has Pluto rising before the Sun and 'calling' (without major aspects in sign or orb 5 degrees). Pluto is novile Mars (rejoycing to push one's physical resources to their limits and affect others with one's dedication; see http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum24/HTML/201926.html
When Pluto rises before the Sun there is a strong orientation on strategies (politics, knowing the right kind of people - I learned that one from Noel Tyl). Frank knew 'the right guy': Himmler loved him, he says in one of the interviews.
A very tight aspect in his chart is Sun square Orcus (the symbol of the oath). He also has 2 biquintiles:
- Mercury - Jupiter (creative exaggeration of facts; lots of words- he is an author)
- Uranus -Pluto: the revolutionary aspect combination of Sun-Uranus-Pluto is often involved with arrests and other dramatic changes.
(- Sun half semi square (22.5 d) Pluto)
LATER EVENTS
Frank is well known for the arrest of Goering on April 25, 1945, but the SS (and he) didn't follow the next order of Hitler: to execute him. His progressed Sun was square progressed Ceres in that final year of the Second World War.
When he confirmed the order given by Himmler (to prosecute the Jews) his Progressed Sun was square Pholus. That is a life turning point...(July 28, 1941) with the risk of shooting your own foot. Now progressed Pholus is trine natal Sun and that makes it easy shoot your feet again. It is the sign of another turning point in life.
NOW
Now that I write this transit Quaoar is inconjunct the natal Sun and trine natal Orcus, effecting the Sun-Orcus square in the natal chart, giving an unbalancing new perspective to broaken oaths and promises. Here is the chart:

Supercentanarians' charts, like Besse Berry Cooper
Even though my grandmother used to say 'Old?!!! The devil is old', some people do get real old. People like Besse Berry Cooper, for example. She is a supercentanarian born August 26 1896. Let's see if the positions on her day of birth correspond with those of the very old persons in my study 'Astrology and Age' on Astropost. Well, they do. Just like the average old person she has more positions in Earth and Air signs than in Fire and Water. Of course there is more...Jupiter rises before her Sun (optimism) and with Saturn inconjunct Pluto she is a real 'die hard' without much balance (a bit too old). Sun inconjunct Ceres refers to the importance of genes and food. The square between Jupiter and Uranus might be important because of angularity, but how can we know without hour of birth?:) not... So here is the chart for her day of birth. The positions are valid for everyone born on that day. They didn't all become as old as Mrs. Besse Berry Cooper. That is because there are more factors than a chart.
Charts have their meaning for the character, but genes, circumstances, wars and other dangers are just as important as character is. Positions in a chart (the complete chart with hour of birth of the chart of the day of birth) should be interpreted with the situation and the genes in mind. If you are interested in the charts of centenarians, first read the article on Astromarkt (link below) and then use the label OLD for more examples .

100 year old birthday party
Yesterday I saw a television item about the birthday party of a 100 year old woman who was also reunited with her son after a separation of 20 years, so that she could celebrate her birthday in the presence of all her children. She, or should I say the chart of her day of birth, is such a nice example of how astrology works.
One of her 'recipes' for getting old, she said, was 'keeping interest in the other gender' and 'having fun'. The birth chart has a tight Venus quintile Jupiter.*) The quintile is a creative (and inventive) aspect. Venus-Jupiter is the combination for popularity, parties and pleasure. Now that she is 100 year old the progressed Sun is conjunct Venus, highlighting the nice sides of life and ...bringing peace with her child.
Here is the chart of August 18, 1910. Watch the percentage of placements in the Earth and Air signs. That is in line with one of the findings that I published on Astromarkt ('The astrology of getting very old') and with the examples that you find when you click the label 'old'.
*) Besides: with the Moon in Aquarius, Venus and Jupiter would not be making Ptolomeic aspects in sign and/or orb 5 degrees and be 'calling' (that is: very prominent and expressing their energies at any possible level).

108 year old man died
Jos Wijnants, age 108, died. He was born in Antwerp March 27, 1902 with the right genes (Ceres, symbol of genes and seeds, is 'calling' in his chart): his grandfather died at age 92. But, what is in the chart of his day of birth that contributes to the astrological picture of a chance to get older than most people do? Here are some of the indications, limited by the unknown hour of birth.
1. There are more placements in fire and air than there are in earth and water. On Astromarkt I wrote about the effect of this, click HERE for more.
2. Strong Scorpio Moon
3. Sun sextiel Jupiter and in a minor (105 degree) aspect with Uranus creates a Sun/Jupiter/Uranus combination that is often reflecting the prolongation of life.
4. Saturn, symbol of old age, is not making any Ptolemeic aspect. Saturn is 'calling'! It is like if 'getting old' was his vocation. When 'Saturn is calling' you don't like taking risks.
5. 40% is in movable signs (and that helps to keep moving)
6. No inconjunctions at all!
Inconjunctions in the radix often mirror ailments or other fysical/mental problems from the start. In order to get old, it is better not to see them in the chart.
Those indication and the mix of them, together with helpfull genes, contributed to reaching the age of 108 (wanted or not). Of course, the individual chart with hour of birth might offer more info (like angular placements, the Sun/Moon and AC/MC midpoint, the Ascendant, etc.).
HOW ABOUT YOU?
When you are born healthy, with a positive and strong character, you have a better chance of getting old. This chance is transtlated into astrological terms as 'movable signs', positive signs (fire and air signs) and balance (no signs of no balance, like inconjunctions). Earth signs and a strong Saturn help to be 'earth bound', cautious and 'sober'. This is the basic packet for getting old. But: there are always exceptions (just like with statistics)!
See the labels for more examples!

A 108 year old man's birthday

Tomorrow Jos Wijnant will be 108 years old and that is an age that no man has in Holland today. He must have perfect genes. Four of his five children are still alive, too. If you want to send a gift: he loves to have a glass of wine with dinner (and wine = ‘ wijn’ in Dutch like in his name☺. What on the day of his birth is reflecting his age today?
1. Saturn isn’t making major aspects in sign or 5 degree orb; he is cautious and solid at any possible level (he has been a civil servant all of his life).
2. Jupiter is rising before his sun: he is an optimist. (And an international: born in Belgium, living in the Netherlands:).
3. Jupiter is in Aqarius and Uranus is in Sagittarius; this is mutual reception between Jupiter and Uranus. (Consider that Uranus oriental is frequent in the charts of those who became very old and that Jupiter-Uranus is the innovative combination).
4. Positions are in all kinds of signs with 4 planets in air signs and 4 in movable signs. ThE air-movable sign is Gemini, the sign of youth.
5. Ceres is the symbol of genes and Ceres is semi square Sun, tightly, but also ‘ calling’ (without major aspects in sign or orb 5 degrees). That means that genes are important at any possible level.
6. Moon in Scorpio is a strong moon
All the rest is a mystery, since we don’t know the hour of birth.
When he became 106 years old he said that being old is not as much fun as getting older is. But there is some fun this weekend: transit Jupiter square progressed Venus is promising a party and that is what he gets. The transit of Pholus square this Venus-Jupiter connection and Saturn is 165d from Jupiter, 105 from progressed Venus and 75 d from Pholus so that we know that he reaches and celebrates an important turning point in age.

Transit Saturn and Pluto and the chart of Hirohisa Fujii

You may never have heard of him before, but Hirohisa Fujii (藤井 裕久?, born June 24, 1932 in Tokyo) is the Japanese minister of Finance. The reason that I blog about him is that he is in the news and that the transits of Saturn and Pluto perfectly reflect the reason why. He is 77 years old and he is in a position of power. Japanese people are among the eldest in the world. But mr. Fujii now has problems (Pluto) with health (Sun) and an ailment (Saturn). Hypertension, probably due to hard working, brought him into hospital yesterday.
He became a minister in 2009 and he very soon found transit Saturn square and transit Pluto opposition natal Sun on his way (the effects of the financial crisis). The disadvantages of power, money and politics showed up at an age when it is harder to be a ‘ die hard’.
For more about Saturn and Pluto, click for the article on Astromarkt or click the label.
BTW The chart (time unknown) above shows a driven person. Mars rises before his Sun and is trine Saturn, and that explains his drive to work hard. He also has Sun inconjunct Saturn. Most often this aspect mirrors an ailment from the start. Sometimes it is reflecting disbalanced ambition or …. Being in charge, but in a way (or at an age!) that does not favor health. Whenever a progression or transit between Sun and Saturn occurs, there is a probability that the ailment starts ' working' . As Saturn is retrograding it is to be expected that there will be more of such occasions. Saturn is the symbol of periods and decades ending. Often with such aspects people step back, have a break etc. It strongly depends on gender, genes, age, condition, situation and of course the complete chart how things will develop.

100 year old Aida dos Santos alive and kicking...
The 20th of November she celebrated birthday number 100 and then she had her first jump out of a plane! Yes, that is what a Brasilian lady (Aida dos Santos) did! The adrenaline made her feel like 15! Read the story here (http://www.ideal.es/agencias/20091219/gente/brasilena-centenaria-salta-primera-paracaidas_200912192127.html) …Here is the chart of her birthday (no hour). I don’t see how and why now (at least: not at this hour of the night), but I do see that she has Sun conjunct Jupiter/Uranus and that is not uncommon in the charts of aged people. It is apparently helping to enjoy new things, not matter what age! Her Scorpio Sun makes her brave enough...

Chart of John Wooden (99)

The LA Times has 99 things about John Wooden, famous basketball coach, on his 99th birthday, things that you can read here...
From time to time I like to add charts to the list of other examples that I have of indications for getting old. John Wooden has a lot of positions in air signs. That is in favour of getting old (just like earth signs). On his day of birth Uranus was square Sun/Jupiter. He has Sun conjunct Jupiter and square Uranus for being inventive. The Sun-Jupiter-Uranus combination has a good influence on age. For more about aging, see the article on my site Astromarkt...
The Sun/Jupiter combination is square Pluto for successes. Lots of coaches have an aspect between Sun and Pluto. He has a wide trine, with Jupiter as the bridge between Sun and Pluto. They often also have an important Venus, because they need to be diplomats even though they are authorities. Wooden had an orientation on sports (Mars is rising before his Sun to show that). Activity, energy and being driven is prominent in his chart, also because of the lack of placements in fire signs.
His progressive Sun is changing sign, so his life style is or has already been changing (what is to be expected at a certain age) and because of the square between Sun and Saturn in the progressed chart, this might have been hard. It is exciting perhaps to be in the (positive) news today, with transit Sun square natal Uranus...The daily motion of the Sun over your natal position is reflecting the 'style' of the day. And Uranus is the planet of the news and excitement!

Henry Allingham died age 113 year old
Mr. Henry Allingham was the last man who was alive and fought in the First World War (1914-1918). He died today.

It is amazing to see that there is a Yod in his natal chart that is connecting Mars, Saturn and Pluto. The apex (the planet that the yod seems to 'point at') is Saturn (the planet of old age). Mars, Saturn and Pluto together are the components of the combination of unnatural death (either your own or that of others) as a (rather unbalanced) issue in your life. I can imagine that Mr. Allingham was being confronted with his early past throughout his life and even more when he became 'the last man standing'. Also his father died when he was 1 year old. His mother died when he was 18. Death was important in his life, but...it was not his own. He survived them all.
Saturn does not make major aspects. That makes Saturn a prominent part of the chart, too. The inconjunction of Saturn with Pluto is reflecting the 'excessive die hard' and maybe that is enough to explain why he became so old. Another indication is Aries Point opposition Jupiter/Uranus (so that we know him because of his special prosperity). The Sun is septile Jupiter and Jupiter is 105 degrees apart from the 'calling' Uranus. The prominence of Uranus makes life exciting enough to continue it. As far as I know, he was more an engineer than a fighter in the army (see the 'calling' Uranus without major aspects, also symbol of cars - he was an employee of Ford in the interbellum). He was able to support himself until 2006, when he was about 110 years old!
Air signs like Gemini (the sign of ‘forever young’) contribute to longevity, as you may read in the article about getting old on my site Astromarkt. He credited 'cigarettes, whisky and wild, wild women — and a good sense of humour" for his longevity. The humor is obvious (50% in air signs); Sun conjunct Neptune symbolizes the alcohol and cigarettes.
???
But...All of those indications were shared by the thousands of others who were also born on June 6, 1896 and who died earlier. I can hardly refer to genes as important part of the picture, as his parents both died at an early age. Still, with Ceres exactly opposition Jupiter/Uranus I like to think that he had lucky genetic material. He did not live without enjoying pleasures and he was in the army in times of war and still he survived all that: he must have had a guardian angle on his shoulder.
That makes me curious about his hour of birth and about the positions in his natal chart. It would be nice if Jupiter and Uranus were on the angles of that chart. If he was born at 22:15 hours he would have had ASC/MC square Jupiter/Uranus. That would mark his time and place of birth as a special fortunate one. Unfortunately, his hour of birth is unknown, but we do know the exact time of death. The chart that you see below is the chart of that moment, with the natal positions of Henry Allingham on the outside.

Maria Donati (101) goes into politics
Next September 14 Maria Donati will be 102 and probably member of the city counsel of Saludecio, Italy. See her picture and the story (in Italian,on Ansa.it). This is her chart.

She was born -14-09-1907 (I guess in Saludecio, time unknown). Here are some of the indications for getting old for those born on that day:
- First of all: it takes the right genes.
Ceres - symbol of roots and genes - is rising before the Sun and pointing at the primary importance of genes in this life.
- Very important: there are no inconjunctions in her natal chart. Inconjunctions in the natal chart indicate misbalance, also in health conditions. Maria Donati had none from the start. More about inconjunctions...
- On her day of birth 50% of the positions was in earth(bound) signs and 60% in movable signs. To get old it is important to take good care of yourself and to move!
- The 'oriental' Jupiter and Uranus are 'calling' (not making Ptolemaic aspects). I have seen more examples of how Jupiter and Uranus contribute to the length of life. A recent example is that of Melly Uyldert, a Dutch astrologer who died a few days ago, aged 100.
- Maria Donati has Sun opposition Saturn and square Pluto, the combinaton of the 'die hard'.
MOON AND CERES: FAMILY AND COMMUNITY
Moon in Sagittarius does not make Ptolemaic aspects. Ceres is rising before her Sun. The two symbols of nutrition (of the basics in life) and of 'being a woman' are prominent. That is in line with what she promisses: that she will listen to the wishes of the people, just like she listened to her children...She wants to stimulate the well being of the family and community. And I bet that she knows how to feed them.
POLITICS AND PLUTO'S TRANSITS
Maria Donati has Sun square Pluto in the natal chart (for wanting to win). She had transit Pluto conjunct progressed Sun last year (perhaps when she started with politics). Later this year transit Saturn will be square her Sun and Pluto. Perhaps it won't be easy to be a politician at her age. But at least: she managed to be in charge and in the news, in time.
