Saturn Neptune and involuntary detachment

Saturn-Neptune aspect combinations, says Reinhold Ebertin, carry the principle of suffering, renunciation and asceticism. They refer to poor, sick or depressed persons. The note on page 249 of his book 'The combination of Stellar Influences' says that Saturn-Neptune is the illness axis. There are several posts on this blog with examples (use the label Saturn-Neptune). What illnesses do, is keeping you in bed, inactive and in involuntary detachment.

In 2011 I had transit Saturn conjunct Neptune and was struck with neuritus vestibularis (a sudden extreme vertigo that keeps you flat on your back for days if not longer).  There are still remains of that 'attack' and I experienced this again and again whenever there was an overload of tasks or movements. The transit is being repeated by transit Neptune inconjunct Saturn. I also had a dental problem that was cured (I hope) mid January, with transit Neptune inconjunct Saturn and conjunct Jupiter (for the 3rd and last time). I think that the dental problem and the vertigo are related, but even though there is no scientific source of what causes neuritis vestibularis, the doctors say that there can be no link between an infection in the jaw and vertigo. What remains is the astrological link: Saturn-Neptune, Neptune-Saturn.

Saturn-Neptune is often a statement for involuntary detachment. I also found this aspect in the natal chart of a Dutch professor in criminology (born December 5, 1933) who was haunted by the press and activists after he started a study about the biology of criminals. In those days (early 80's) this was considered to be political incorrect. He got ill and depressed. Ultimately he left the world of science and went to Spain (he also had the international Jupiter rising before the sun).

Involuntary detachment: that is how Robert Hand 'translated' this aspect. Those two words seem to be the right words for Saturn-Neptune.

I have Saturn square Neptune natally. I like the phrase 'involuntary detachment'. I hadn't thought of it that way before. My Saturn is in the 6th house, and squares Neptune in the 4th. I have found through my life that its the mind-body connection that directs my health. I'm an empath and absorb other people's energies all the time....it can debilitate me. For someone who didn;t know about energy, I could see how this would be mistaken for illness, but luckily i know how to get rid of it. Protecting myself is an ongoing battle. BTW, I've had the vertigo thing you were talking about....super dizzy and you can't stand up for a while. I was able to identify the two times that I had it....both were times when I was very emotional and feeling abandoned by someone. Involuntary detachment I suppose...but my point is that it was emotionally induced. It went away after a few days, but now I know to use EFT when these situations arise to get rid of the emotional trigger. I've got Saturn coming up to conjunct my Neptune in October, but I'm hoping it will represent more a breakthrough in grounding my energy....which has always been my problem. Saturn can bring gifts too!

Hi Barb, thanks for sharing this. I hope that the conjunction in October will bring something positive!

I found your post, and found it very interesting. I am coming up on my second Saturn-Neptune conjunction in February. During my first one, I experienced the same Vertigo that you mentioned. It was about January 1985. I was in high school, and would suddenly become very dizzy. I would have to lie down, until it subsided. I went to the doctors, and they could not find any physical reason for the vertigo, and had no explanation. It happened a few times, until about June, and, then, it just disappeared. (I also have Neptune inconjunct Saturn in my natal chart.)

So, now I am worried about whether this odd phenomenon will return in February?!

#JC Sure hope not! I would never want this twice! And I am happy that it is a rare ailment!

I have this transit now (transiting Saturn conjunct natal Neptune in Scorpio), and feel in a total suspended state...
I can function, just..., but it is as if I am not really here. I have come back from a long-haul holiday one week ago, and I was wondering if my brain is still floating on the plane somewhere. One full week after getting back the jetlag should have sorted itself out, but no...
Wondering what it will lead to?

I too have transit Saturn conjunct Neptune in the first house. I feel disoriented and forever waiting but I know what I want. Its rough. Any advice?

What happens and how to deal with it, totally depends on you, your chart and your situation. But I think that the best way to handle Saturn-Neptune is to accept the circumstances and try to focuss on the good things. At best, Saturn-Neptune is a sort of a sabbatical, but maybe not as you like it. At worse, this aspect comes with health issues. They say that this aspect makes dreams more solid and concrete. Time to stop dreaming?

Anyway, if it is only that transit, it will go away like all transits do, eventually...Wish you strenght in between!

Hello. I am currently going through this transit, thus here I am looking for ideas to get through it. It concerns me more than it should because Neptune is also on my Asc., so am feeling this in the bones so to speak. Odd aches and pains. All I want to do is sleep for days. No concentration abilities at all and now is not the time to be flaking out! Anyway, thanks for the info!

I'm glad I came across this article now. Transit Saturn will be conjuncting my moon and Neptune in the 1st house in the next 2 months- and to stay for a few months. I've been through too much already this past year and cannot imagine even harder times ahead -*sigh*

Hello Sparkle, it takes 3 transits/progressions in the same 'direction' for serious indications. I hope you have better transits and progressions at the same time. Transit Saturn always also represents worrying, so please don't and just be cautious and take care (that is Saturnal, too).

Thank you for the post. I'm trying to keep a good attitude. I get it every seven years. Saturn conjunct South node sq Neptune in 6/7 and the ascendant, very tight orb, exact really.

Right now, I'm getting another hit with the transit of Saturn and Neptune. This also always triggers hidden enemies for me - Mars in the 12th... A Neptune-ruled house.

A man who is an astrologer and spiritual teacher, someone I was at school with, got in touch with me just as the transit started, led me on, convinced me to do irresponsible things and then hurt me. Because of my own behavior...changing my diet ... I got acid reflux I hadn't had in years, very bad, and I hope the doctors won't be confused and make it worse.

I'm going to try to remember it's just a transit but it's scary every time it comes around. I get ungrounded, manic and then depressed when it all comes crashing down. There are people who hurt me...the man and also, this time, a jealous friend. Often, there are deaths. I lost my grandparents and my father under Sat-Nept. I have also lost jobs. They say it's very creative and it starts out so but when the crash comes...the creativity stops making sense, the original inspiration having been destroyed.

I'm always trying to learn how to cope with it. My second return will be the next transit. That's in four or five years.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Best to you.

Sorry to hear that this transit hits you so badly, Claire. I wonder if, when you see this coming, you could prepare yourself and surround yourself with the kind of people and material things that help and not destroy you. A Neptune-Ascendant is always very sensitive by nature and the death of close persons of course hurts you and you may feel it harder than others do. The same sensitivity that makes you create things, can also be destructive, but only if you allow this. Maybe a psychologist can help you deal with bad news and nasty events without falling into the hands of frauds. I wish you strength! Kind regards, Marga
